D
igitisation is the future 4.0 also of the trade fair sector. For some years now, all the most important trade fairs have provided their visitors with dedicated applications to plan their visit in advance, make appointments with the exhibitors,
and easily find their way through the halls. However, the digitisation of trade fairs goes far beyond these apps. 2019 will be the year in which the exhibition industry’s ability to adapt to the new digital paradigms will be truly assessed. There are two areas of intervention: the creation of models enabling marketing offices to effectively and quickly use the huge amount of data collected during the events and the addition of new exhibition products organised in the already existing spaces but designed to interact with the trade fairs’ customers. Tools and apps can help companies manage their exhibition projects more effectively, engage their visitors, and support administration and back office activities. They are also designed to be shared: all the people involved in the project know exactly what they are supposed to do and they can keep an eye on what has been done, what is in progress, and what remains to be completed. The new digital tools will simplify the organisation of the events and the follow up activities, help create a fascinating experience for the public, and contribute to the companies’ branding and marketing efforts. Another trend that will be strengthened in 2019 will be the “contamination” between digital and real. Digital trade fairs are the new frontier of the sector, which considers them an opportunity to expand its business through events complementing the traditional ones. Moreover, we will see the evolution of some hybrid formats, combinations between conventional events for face-to-face interactions and virtual events in which people meet in virtual spaces. As is happening in the manufacturing industry with the advent of production digitisation, also in the trade fair industry a need for new professionals is arising to seize and develop all the opportunities offered by these new events. Every year, more or less during this period, companies choose which exhibitions to join in the following twelve months as both exhibitors and visitors. Indeed, visiting the trade fairs in which one’s own customers have a stand is still one of the most successful ways to grasp the market situation, discover product trends, acquire new contacts, and consolidate old relationships. The calendar you are holding in your hands lists all the most important events for the surface treatment sector that are going to be held worldwide in 2019. It does not only include the trade fairs directly involving the manufacturers of surface treatment technologies as exhibitors, but also, and above all, those that bring together companies operating in industrial sectors for which surface treatments are a crucial production phase. These are the events that ipcm® suggests you to visit. Trade fairs, be they real or virtual, are still the greatest showcase as well as the best tool for acquiring contacts and doing business.
