A lady with a passion, Lisa Newport, believes that our clothes offer more than just a covering. Clothes provide endless opportunities to support how you feel. An outfit may build our confidence. Our ‘go to’ garments give us strength and determination towards our goals.

Lisa would tell us not to underestimate our choices. Her work includes helping clients in so many ways. She uses her four step style system ‘Drab to Fab!’ to help her clients build up their confidence through a style that reflects their own personal character.

From a world of make-up artists and designers, she forged her career from a background of Textiles and Fashion. Experience in major brands to the British Colour Council her work took her towards experiences that did not spark her interest. Caught in a maelstrom of personal emotional difficulties, she wanted to execute some major changes.

She needed to fire up her world of colour with energy and drama. Her noteworthy styling business was born. Aware that celebrities use professional styling services, she felt sure that she could help women in their everyday lives. Surrounded by textures, hues and tones offered her creative powers a chance to move forward.

Her clients are transformed with advice on more than just the outside. Starting from within and offering support to show their inner self was a top priority. No two people respond in the same way. She has tailored her programme to build up her client’s identity from within to reflect on the outside and to define their sense of purpose. The clothes are the final part of the process.

This goal sets her apart. She examines lifestyle, the person, their personality and character to help impact on the goal. Using online meetings and sessions to build a profile gives her a clear understanding to create a ‘recipe’ that offers her clients a defining wardrobe of ‘go to’ clothes that accentuates their inner being.

Lisa uses confidence and comfort as major factors when choosing clothes, and of course, no outfit is complete without a hat! The same rules apply according to our fashion guru. A wearer must feel that to hat ‘works’. There is no point in wearing the wrong hat! Lisa explains that some people like the idea of a hat but feel self conscious. Others wear a hat to make a statement. There is a whole spectrum of levels that support hat wearing.

The development of her strategy has led to courses that run for a number of months. This is a journey that cannot be rushed. Participants work in groups to articulate their own feelings and identity. Empowered people make strong choices.

Her work includes an alumni group that touch base from time to time. It is an in-depth process that takes thinking and development to a new level. It is not a light touch. Gradually clients understand themselves to build on their knowledge and understanding.

Sustainability features high in her work. Helping clients make choices that support this is an important part of her work. She encourages people to ‘shop their wardrobe’ first. After that she takes them to Charity Shops. Lisa uses new clothes as the last option. She likes clients to experiment and try new ideas. A new colour can be introduced in a small element. There is no need to leap into a new wardrobe.

Lisa supports charity work with a keen focus on cancer charities. Her mum sadly suffered a brain tumour that cut her life short. Hosting coffee mornings for Macmillan and donating from her glamorous ‘Swish’ events gives her purpose in this field.
