Welcoming Message Dear EMRO Newbies, Before going on a trip into our world, let us first thank you all for joining our family! As pharmacy students and fresh graduates, we’re all equal. But what makes us really different are those special skills we try to grow inside of us. Each of us is a hero in his own way, a leader in his mind, and a warrior in his soul. Have you ever imagined if all the heroes of our region are gathered together in one home? Well, that home exists and we call it IPSF EMRO. We’re here, hand in hand, under the same roof, to raise awareness, promote new opportunities, highlight self-development, seek positive change, share colorful cultures, and step up with our region. Our home has some rules, easy to understand, and smooth to apply. It’s your turn right now to put your seatbelt on and get ready for our journey! Hope you’ll enjoy reading this manual as much as you’ll enjoy your fruitful stay with us!

01 FROM IPSF TO EMRO
I
History It all started with a joint effort of 8 countries: the UK, Austria, Australia, Netherlands, Switzerland, Ireland, Iceland, and Denmark, to create a common space for pharmacy students to meet and flourish. In 1949, they gave birth to IPSF that stands for the INTERNATIONAL PHARMACEUTICAL STUDENTS’ FEDERATION and marked the world with this first-ever faculty-based organization. With a strong vision to empower pharmacy students, IPSF goes global and represents over 500 000 pharmacy and pharmaceutical science students, and recent graduates from over 92 countries with more than 116 different member organizations. Currently based in the municipal council of The Hague, Netherlands, the federation retains the status of a global non-governmental, non-political, non-religious, and non-profit umbrella organization. Raising the voice of future pharmacists is a big responsibility IPSF carries for the sake of advancing pharmacy practice worldwide. In fact, it is the main channel for this healthcare workforce to exchange ideas, knowledge, and valuable opportunities; to advocate for the improvement of public health; and to strengthen the international dialogue with healthcare professionals, professors, and non-governmental organizations. After 54 years of growth, the extension was necessary to reach a bigger audience and to include as many parts of the world as possible. Reunited in the 54th IPSF WORLD CONGRESS in Romania, the pharmily decided upon the addition of the Eastern Mediterranean region alongside the African, Asia- Pacific, Pan-American, African, and European region.

World Congress Each year, a different member organization hosts the world congress so that it can be implemented in its country. It is a very important annual event as it gathers pharmacy students worldwide in one place. The main goal of the world congress is the implementation of general assemblies where each member organization represents its country and takes part in the decision-making process through voting rights. With the latter, official delegates decide who will be the next executive members of the federation, participate in a discussion on different topics, and can propose amendments in the federation to be implemented. QUICK NOTES: -A member organization should be a FULL MEMBER to have a voting right. -If there are many member organizations from the same country (ex: ASEPA, ASEPT, ARPEC are all from Algeria), only one can receive the full member title. -Full member organizations vote in the general assembly, and members in association can be present in the general assembly without taking any decision regarding the federation. The world congress has its fun part too: the hosting member organization of the congress organizes cultural events, gala dinners, excursions, conferences, workshops…

03 IPSF GATHERING
LIT
LIT stands for Leaders In Training and it is counted as one of the IPSF official events. It takes in charge the communication of important soft skills to participants, organized as a series of training sessions 4 to 5 days before the beginning of each world congress. QUICK NOTE: LIT can be organized by every member organization in coordination with the IPSF professional development portfolio whenever they decide to schedule it. However, its implementation just before the world congress is required.
PCT
PCT stands for Post Congress Tour and it is a 4 days excursion planned directly after the world congress. It is designed for participants who want to discover the country where the world congress is organized and to have fun! QUICK NOTES: -The LIT and PCT are secondary activities, and each one has a different fee. -You can’t participate in LIT and PCT without participating in the world congress, but you can participate in the world congress without registering in LIT and/or PCT

Regional Symposiums You remember the 5 regional offices? Here is the news: each region organizes its own regional symposium. -AFRO organizes the African pharmaceutical symposium -APRO organizes the Asia Pacific pharmaceutical symposium -EURO organizes the European pharmaceutical symposium -PARO organizes the Pan American pharmaceutical symposium -EMRO organizes the Eastern Mediterranean pharmaceutical symposium But what are the regional symposiums for? In fact, it is the regional version of the IPSF world congress and it is where we held our regional assembly to discuss our regional matters. It goes with the same strategy: each full member organization in the region has one vote and it is where the elections of the regional executive members take place.
III
Eastern Mediterranean pharmaceutical symposium The Eastern Mediterranean Pharmaceutical Symposium (EMPS) is the biggest event that brings together pharmacy students and recent graduates to discuss trending global health issues and pharmacy profession development and they host a regional assembly. EMPS is featured with scientific and educational sessions, workshops, professional development events, public health campaigns, social events and a post-symposium tour.

If alone, welcome!
Every person involved in a member organization is considered an IPSF member and is eligible to apply in order to join the IPSF TEAM as a member in a portfolio (media and publications, professional development, public health, pharmacy education…) or as a coordinator. The call is annually launched in September/October. QUICK NOTES: -You can apply to be a member in a maximum of two different portfolios. -If you apply as a coordinator, you don’t have the right to be a member in another portfolio. If you apply as a coordinator, there is an option, if not accepted, to be directed as a simple member in that committee.
The same rules are applied for each region. You can apply to join the SUBCOMMITTEE of the IPSF regional board whether as a simple member or a coordinator. However, regionally, you are allowed to apply for one position (either a member or coordinator) in specifically one committee.
Not every country has a member organization, and for that, some pharmacy students are left behind without any chance to invest their potential. To remedy this problem, an option is here: the INDIVIDUAL MEMBERSHIP. Individual membership is a personal enrollment of any pharmacy student that doesn’t have any member organization representing pharmacy students of their country in IPSF. It is implemented in order to give them the chance to participate in different activities of the federation and in the congress. There is an annual fee to be covered, email join@ipsf.org for further information.

05 WHAT WE DO WHO Simulation: It is crucial for health-care students to acquire skills centered towards diplomacy and policy in health. WHO simulation is a very effective way to do so, throughout providing trainees with the baseline skills needed to be innovative and leading, while advocating for healthcare topics. This simulation will eventually result in a resolution paper that would serve WHO EMRO in the healthcare field. WHO Simulation goes in the same scope of Model United Nations. It consists of simulations of WHO general assemblies where each delegate would represent a random member state or non-member state actor, and lobby to get the best interests.

Ms. Nirmal Malik, Former Chairperson of Internal Committee:
“I joined IPSF back in 2018 when I started my 2nd year in Pharm.D.
I realized that to polish my skills and become a refined professional was the road I needed to pave as a student. The key to success is never that simple; you need to put efforts in the right direction at the right time in order to achieve your goals with distinction! IPSF showed me this direction; IPSF transformed me into the personality I have today. Although working here is a long and a bumpy ride, everything you gain is worth it. It is a lot more than acquiring simple knowledge and skill, it is a journey of making memories and conquering a better future!
