On the Top! This is the Triumph of Femininity. It is like climbing the top of the mountain and taking a deep breath. As if you’re Lilith... (the first Adam’s woman), and Adam is the entire world.

Nina Murashkina makes sensual and metaphorical art which is built on her own sexuality and empirical knowledge of herself. The artist crystallizes her own intimate experiences and reproduces her own vision of a woman through the vivid feminine images. The women with ambiguous and discredited positioning today are the Goddess: strong and weak at the same time with their snakelike plasticity and delicate sense, rational aspiration and irrational doubt that is able to capture but is more often to be captured. She lives with the infinite thirst for the harmony of all her entities. Murashkina and her female characters are integral to each other, her stories are the ones of her own experiences and metaphorical self portraits. From a young age she subtly compiled her female image. The elegance of the 19th century was borrowed from the Victorian literature and boldly combined with the ghostly memories of the gloomy, late-Soviet life of Donetsk - the smell of nylon stockings and worn out mother’s pearls. The realities of the environment where the artist evolved are deliberately adorned by the aesthetics of

the sentimental era. The fairy fabulousness of Nina’s world scares and the imaginary intimate images of her diaries arise their erotic tone. The artist openly and ironically speaks of one-time love, self-sacrificing trust and the naive play of a young woman towards maturity. With acquiring experience a young woman ascends the peak, where she could for the first time entirely embrace herself in artistic practice and peer into new perspectives. Murashkina blatantly juggles with a variety of symbols in her works and among the accumulated cultural codes of the epoches the perceiver will meet the attending symbols which will lead them through the tunnels of the artist’s world. For example, the eyes on the nipples are a long-standing image of hypersensitivity, the ability to rely on deep irrational inner instruments of cognition of the world. A book unfolded on the knees is the pursuit of rational knowledge, which borders on physical desires and emotional elusiveness. The bed is the space of the most important life events like sleep, dreams, love, conception, birth and death. And the snakes, which are identified by the artist with femininity represent the elastic fineness, silence and fascinating sexuality. The Spanish artist Xavier Escala created the installation “I’m very shy.” based on Nina’s works, The artists’ tandem leads us to the key idea — harmony. This is an ideological display of the exposition and the symbolic act of sacrifice, which must be raised to itself, in order to leave everything unnecessary in the past and to allow it to exist in the future. The exhibition “On the Top!” is the search for harmony, maturity and triumph of love of Nina Murashkina. And it’s also a milestone and a bold statement: “I have come true!” To be continued. The project “On the Top!” is the the outcome of the creative process, the formation of the artist and personality. The kind of blossoming and flourishing time which is cutting off the odds. This is the triumph of Femininity. I create my own world, with its own symbols and melody. We should savor this strong rhythmic “song”, where everyone belongs to one another and the interaction with the audience is unforgettable, like a magical dream, like a delusive fairy tale, it is sometimes subconsciously scary, but what is the most amazing thing — you always want to come back there! My symbols

~ Book without words. Though it contains questions and exclamation marks. In fact reading gives answers to many questions, you read, and you seem to be slightly touching the thoughts of the author. I often depict books lying on the lap of a woman. This is a symbol of dualism. The moment of tormenting her nature between soul and body. There are many examples like this in literature. One of the most striking is Anna Karenina: surrendering to a passionate lover or staying an honorable wife?

~ Gold background: “..This is something dazzling, eternal, Egyptian-like, it’s like gypsy’s teeth, reflecting many of your faces when smiling, and this is also silence, because silence is both valuable and good, and you can be a little smarter at this time, this is my grandmother’s inheritance and the dowry wrapped and buried in the ground, it is scattered rhinestones on the jeans of all the fashionistas of decent neighbourhoods, this is a set of chain around the necks of gorgeous beauties selling fresh chicken, milk and farmer cheese on the market, and those chains get stuck between insatiable breasts and neck lines, this is a golden bidet right in the “bedroom of your dreams”, this is the wealth you’ve never dreamt of, because you got it in the form of a light caressing rain, when the sunset is gold and beautiful, and your heart is gnawed by pain and yearning, and the gold of the sunset grinds this yearning.... and you feel like you are saturated with beauty, and suddenly...! it starts raining! Right in the sky! And it is desired and Gold.

~ Bed. The most important things in life happen in bed. Sleep, love, conception of a new life, death, reveries, dreams. ~ Snake. For me, this is a powerful phallic symbol and it’s also a symbol of wisdom. I find its flexibility and soundless movement sexual! ~ Female breasts, there are eyes on them instead of nipples. They’re staring at you, crying and laughing, craving for love!

The “INSATIABLE” project was inspired by the works of such artists as Louise Bourgeois and Annette Messager. Performance and kitsch are the main focus here. However, the context has the innermost intimate basis. This reflects artist’s view of herself in grotesque self-portrait. It is also a search for the identity of female sexuality. There are two self-portraits. There are two alter-egos of the artist. The main subject is a velvet doll which has long legs suspended from the ceiling, the doll is endlessly and insatiably drinking vodka or tea. She’s drinking from a samovar*, both cozy and defiant. There is an allegory here that shows the craving to get more and more, despite the satiety! The second portrait is another face of the author, it is a 5-meter long caterpillar with a lot of arms which want to take everything around, but she has a black bandage because she doesn’t know what exactly she wants and what she needs to take! The installation “Rain from the Black Ovals” complements the project. There is a man in each oval: Falling, Being bored, Desiring, Flying, ripping, etc.… Black Ovals are the food for the caterpillar. Painting emphasizes all objects with the visual images. We could see here “NOSTALGIA” and “Flight of Free Women”, and “Humiliation”.

INCOMPATIBLE Of internal pain. Of the childhood percepted through the dark window. Of pain evolved into sugar. Of the carnival without an ending or a beginning. Of how I love you. And how I don’t. From morning till night. When I open my eyes and the pines are wearing crimson...

You’re flying through them touching the needles with your body. You’re flying to me and I’m plucking these needles, licking the strawberries and you’re like a dessert. Beautiful and insatiable like me. This gun is just a lighter. And our love is Smoke. You’re falling like a dim star. We’re falling together like dull stars. There are lots of us. The work of Nina Murashkina is a reflection of her deep personal stories. I’m very very INSATIABLE. I want plenty, at once and much more. And the best. And painlessly.

So that the volume turns inside out and up. So that we forget about “now”, and remember “back then.” The smell of Soviet nylon negligee, yellow stains of sweat and smeared mascara in the lilac air scream about the blood on a sore face that is yours. It is on my lips, along with my mother’s artificial pearls which have been worn out long time now and will no longer flicker in the night lights of the tavern. It shakes so much on the last seat of the bus that you’re getting a seat there and dreaming... Every bump of the road is yours! Yours only. The rest of the passengers avoid taking back seats. But you don’t”, — Nina Murashkina writes in one of her latest texts. The “Insatiable” project of 2015 in Dnepr (Ya Gallery art center) kept visualizing the experience of the intimate sphere of the artist’s perception. The basis of the exhibition was built on the close connection between the installations, paintings, collages, flavored with Nina Murashkina’s memoirs, her emotional contiguity to Louise Bourgeois and Annette Messager. The concept of insatiability in the context of the presented works does not outlive itself with just one side of the artist’s life. On the contrary, redundancy manifests itself everywhere, for example, in passion, which gives a state of exaltation, and then, as it often happens in life which stings the face with tears. This is the feeling, when it becomes impossible to balance on the blade of a knife, and it only remains to dance. Consequently, according to the artist, “it all starts with the Doll”, that is, a peculiar Self-portrait, presented in the form of an installation — a huge blindfold

centipede. The dialogue to this grotesque image is no less the autobiographical object “Insatiable”. “This is a doll with a huge mouth and a bust, a long, worm-like black body and legs suspended from the ceiling. She is drinking tea or vodka. And she feels either good or bad”, Murashkina comments in one of her recent interviews. The presence of installations in the project indicates Nina Murashkina’s thirst for tactility, which causes the transition from the satiate pictorial flatness to volume. The artist’s ruthlessness to the viewer is enhanced in proportion to her desire to rub the body of her own dreams and to feel the fleshness of what is now embodied in reality. Working with cloth, threads and fragments of childhood in the form of scattered dolls on the floor, which are no longer dolls, but images of unborn children, Nina Murashkina clings to the texture where all the volume of naked femininity manifests itself. This image is close to Lysistrata by Aristophanes who agitates women of all Greece to fight for peace, by refusing to caress their men with the ironic expression “neither to the husband, nor the lover”. However, the dominant image of the Centipede-doll has its cruel side. This creature needs regular “feeding”. And all kinds of “heroes”, embodied in the “Rain from the Black Ovals” series of collages, become this feeding. The possibility of their reproduction together with the insatiability finally eclipses the mind, but not the doll’s mind itself, but the audience’s. While the “Black Ovals” are growing, the dazzled audience no longer notices how they become prisoners in one of the ovals.

An Artist, Art-Curator, Performer. The main topic of my research in art is the psychology of sexuality, personal drama, raised in cult. I‘m brave, bold and fearless, I‘m erotic and see the world in an erotic context. I like to talk about what you prefer to save in silent way. That’s about you dreamt of something, but did not expect to be aware. About the delicious details from the Subconscious and the extreme limits allowed in the social relations. As for the style, it is a synthetic combination of purely feminine perception of the World with a deep ground of classical art education, it is a parallel to the Ukrainian naive art and Kitsch, filled with citations from works of masterpieces of art history. I create big format bright colors paintings, installations includes ready-made objects, knitted items, embroidery, and the drawings related with my own erotic stories and performances. Turning to the themes of Eroticism and Body, the experience of dreams, I immerse them in the theatrical environment. The artworks may appear upon first glance playful and whimsical, but it ultimately encourage viewers to take a serious look at the complexity of ideas on display. My plots are macabre and quite grotesque, with full of irony and a chance to laugh or to cry. To love or to die. But for sure, to believe in this Magic by author’s erotic world.
