WEEK 3 READING: TITLE OF READING

Question 1: What is Pictorial Space according to Le Corbusier? According to the Le Corbusier, Pictorial space is that which cannot be entered or circulated through , it is irremediably space viewed from a distance, and is therefore eternally resigned to frontality.

Question 2: The Flatness of Le Corbusier’s painting’s are attributable to two properties. What are they? And what are these pitted against? The two properties are limiting the use of black colour and using white colour. As black was juxtaposed against areas of white, so that the extreme contrast between figure and ground served to pry apart the surface of the picture at the point where the con trust occurred. By adding white, the chalkiness of his colour could enforce the sense of a continuous skin of paint that spans the surface from edge to edge without break.
