Irish Arts Center celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with a concert from singer-songwriter Loah, co-host of RTÉ One’s The Heart of Saturday Night. Having recently released her 2022 EP When I Rise Up, she brings her soulful and celebratory sound and band back to IAC following a sold-out show at Brooklyn’s Sultan Room, collaborations with musicians like Lisa Hannigan and Bantum, and her breathtaking 2019 Masters in Collaboration with Colm Mac Con Iomaire and Utsav Lal.

Yes and Yes takes its title from the final episode of Joyce’s Ulysses , which both begins and ends with a “yes”: “…yes I said yes I will Yes,” the famous last words of the novel, exclaimed by Molly Bloom. The dance journeys through Ulysses, exploring its sensuality, absurdity, release, and resignation in movement with four extraordinary dancers and through film, sound, and design.

Yes and Yes by Liz Roche was originally co-produced by Solas Nua in Washington, D.C. and Liz Roche Company, in partnership with Cork Opera House. Commissioned by Solas Nua. Presented in association with the James Joyce Society.

Muldoon’s Picnic

Though it takes its title from a popular 19th century New York music hall show, Muldoon’s Picnic is a 21st century take on the tried and true formula of bringing together world class poets, prose fiction writers, and musicians.

Now in its ninth year at Irish Arts Center, the Picnic is curated by the Pulitzer Prize-winning poet and songwriter Paul Muldoon and features a hard rocking house band, Rogue Oliphant (Chris Harford, guitar and vocals; Ray Kubian, drums and vocals; David Mansfield, guitar; Cáit O’Riordan, bass and vocals; and Warren Zanes, guitar and vocals).

The 8th traces Ireland’s 35-year struggle to dismantle the 8th Amendment—a constitutional ban on abortion. We hear from voices on both sides of the debate, but the film’s primary focus is on the dynamic female leaders of the pro-choice campaign, following the veteran campaigner Ailbhe Smyth and selfdescribed glitter activist Andrea Horan as they chart a bold strategy of grassroots activism and engineer the impossible. This dramatic story is underscored by a vivid exploration of the wrenching failures that led to this defining moment in Irish history.

Alice next arrives somewhere, just as the Cheshire cat predicted, but was she the same Alice when she got there? This exhibition seeks to explore travel, travelers, Travellers, journeys, and destinations, and ask how they change each other. Artists Leanne McDonagh, Ellie Berry, and Edy Fung bring to the exhibition a perception of travel that’s tied to their experiences, and each offers the audience a moment of meditation on how travel can influence them and their idea of “somewhere.”

The event also features the U.S. premiere of Tan Ann (an old Gaelic expression for “once upon a time”), a short film series blending storytelling, visual art, puppetry, and original music to transport us to the supernatural world of Irish folklore and mythology.

Silkroad presents Train Station Trios, a series of open workshops generating new music as part of Silkroad’s multi-year American Railroad project, an initiative led by artistic director Rhiannon Giddens that illuminates the impact the African American, Chinese, Indigenous, Irish, and other immigrant communities had on the creation of the U.S. Transcontinental Railroad and connecting railways in North America.

In this one-of-a-kind New York event, a trio of Silkroad artists along with a local scholar will explore untold stories from these communities, contextualizing the railroad through music and reminding us of America’s intricately rich history.

A Parade Trance Extravaganza for the Living Library of the Deviant Theme

Bark of Millions, the new hybrid work by Taylor Mac, Matt Ray, and an international ensemble of performers, takes residence at Irish Arts Center this summer for further development following previous residencies at Kaatsbaan and MASS MoCA.

Epic in scale, this rock opera meditation on queerness features 54 original songs—one for each year since the Stonewall uprising— inspired by various queer antecedents throughout world history.

Our Access program offers a limited supply of $25-and-under seats for every performance. These tickets are made available when shows go on sale, and once they’re gone, they’re gone—make your purchase early!

We also offer $50 discounted memberships for seniors, veterans, students, and people with disabilities, and scholarships for students in need.

About Irish Arts Center

Irish Arts Center, founded in 1972 and based in Hell’s Kitchen, New York City, is a home for artists and audiences of all backgrounds who share a passion or appreciation for the evolving arts and culture of contemporary Ireland and Irish America. We present, develop, and celebrate work from established and emerging artists and cultural practitioners, providing audiences with emotionally and intellectually engaging experiences in an environment of Irish hospitality. Steeped in grassroots traditions, we also provide community education programs and access to the arts for people of all ages and ethnic, racial, and socioeconomic backgrounds. In 2021, through a historic partnership of the people of Ireland and New York, Irish Arts Center completed construction on a fully-funded $60MM state-of-the-art new facility to support this mission for the 21st century.
