LETTER FROM THE EDITOR

Thank you for reading the "Faith" issue of IronWifey Magazine. The Word says that faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen. Faith comes through belief, and belief through the Word of God. A quote that I absolutely love hearing Jesus say is, "Your Faith has made you well." From healing the woman with the issue of blood, to giving sight to a blind beggar, and cleansing the ten lepers, Jesus consistently reveals how much faith can have an impact on our overall well being. The three miracles mentioned above only took place because those people believed that Jesus is who He says He is, They all believed that Jesus was able to heal them and He did what they believed. They were not perfect and they were all cast out by society due to their imperfections; but through faith Jesus saw their hearts. Our faith is dependent on our belief in God. The stronger the faith, the stronger the belief. When we doubt, we tend to lack belief, and ultimately can fall into sin. So, I pray that as you read this issue, you find encouragement in faith. I pray that you believe in God and accept Jesus wholeheartedly and that you turn to the Lord for what you need, so that you too can hear him say: "Your Faith Has Made You Well." May you walk by faith and not by sight. With Love,

ROOTED IN FAITH

By: Joanne Christian

The book of Hebrews is all about faith--how to strengthen it and how it can help you endure. One of God's goals for us is to learn to trust him more. When a Christian asks God for more faith, he or she is really asking for more trials. God knows that only through exercise can our faith be strengthened. Our endurance through trials is very important to God. It allows him to use us to pass along comfort and encouragement to others. Do you realize that your faith never looks as grand in summer weather as it does in winter? Love is too often like a firefly, showing little light except when it is in the midst of surrounding darkness. Hope itself is like a star, not to be seen in the sunshine of prosperity, and only to be discovered in the night of adversity. Whenever believers talk about faith, it isn’t the amount of faith but the object of faith that makes the biggest difference. A shield of faith in ourselves will fail. A shield of faith in anything or anyone other than Jesus Christ will also fail. Our faith and trust is not a muscle we flex, but the dependence we place on God. Any power or strength residing in our faith comes from the One in whom we trust. How deep does your faith go? Put the roots of your faith down deep into God so that you can withstand any storm you may face. Without faith it’s impossible to please God!

arlene McCoy, singer, songwriter, author, minister and one of my favorite radio personalities, Dwould end each nightly set by saying “It’s all in divine order, and all things work together for the good, for them that love God.” (Romans 8:28). Everything we encounter in life, every person, place, thing, situation and challenge has been strategically placed by God to elevate each of us to that specific place where he can bless us beyond measure if we trust, believe and have faith in him. Every stepping stone throughout our existence is designed to nurture and strengthen our relationship with our Heavenly Father. This connection is reinforced by building on the three gifts of the Holy Spirit, all of which endure all things and are vital for a strong Christian life: Faith, Hope and Love. Faith, the leader of these three attributes, is an expression of our gratitude to God for all of the many blessings he has bestowed upon us. It is a spiritual compass that keeps our earthly journey on a path illuminated by our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ.

Jesus spoke to them, saying, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.” -John 8:12 ESV.

Unfortunately, as humans, we tend to confuse our free will as permission to develop our dreams and aspirations in places God never intended us to be. We become so distracted by the chaos of the world that we begin to look inward and in every other direction except toward Christ to find our resolve. We build or plan a life, without any input from God, and then we become so disillusioned when we don’t meet the expected success we envisioned. That disappointment leads to disdain and our Faith is the first thing that begins to waiver. We fail to realize that God’s plan by far is always better than anything we could have ever imagined on our own. We have to possess an allencompassing Faith that allows us to let go of our plans in life and let God order our steps. Only through embracing God’s Will and accepting help from the Holy Spirit, are we able to surpass our idealized level of success and completely flourish in every aspect of our lives.

“I will lift mine eyes unto the hills from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord which made Heaven and Earth.” -Psalms 121:1-2 KJV Our Faith determines our actions. It is not something that is external or superficial, but is deeply rooted within our hearts and minds. I have often wondered why it’s so easy for others to put their faith and trust in things of this earth and search for value or significance in things that are physical versus spiritual. Mankind would rather subject themselves to the opinions of society instead of standing on God's promises. Too often we place our faith in things such as our vehicles, relying on them to get us from point A to point B. We trust our banking institutions to keep our earnings and investments safe. We believe that our family BY: DENISE DANDRIDGE and friends will always encourage, support, and build us up, and BY: DENISE DANDRIDGE that our partners and spouses will be forever in love with us, committed and faithful. We place our faith in what we see, only to be disappointed time and time again.

But, “Faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen”. -Hebrews 11:1 KJV It is better for us to trust in the Lord, than to put our confidence in man (Psalms 118:8). So the next time you face a difficult situation, hurt feelings, disappointment and uncertainty, and/or you feel, anxiety and apprehension begin to creep in, I suggest that you reassess where your Faith lies; because God has not given us the spirit of doubt, worry or fear, but of power and love and of a sound mind. (2 Timothy 1:7) The frailties of our lives can only be crippling if we fail to incorporate God’s word daily to deepen our Faith. We must embrace an attitude of gratitude for all that God has given us, in order to keep us in perfect balance and in alignment with our Heavenly Father. As we pray, we should pray for Faith like a little child with confident expectations and unwavering belief (Matthew 18:3). Pray for faith that can cause walls to crumble, that can seal a lions jaws, that can subdue a fire laden furnace, that can part the Red Sea, that can slay giants and conquer enemies, and allow childbirth that defies age. Our Faith will lead us and should provide us with the assurance of knowing that beyond a shadow of a doubt, God’s mighty grace is sufficient and His power alone is made perfect in our weaknesses (2 Corinthians 12:9).

In terms of exercising my faith in the Lord, a song by Jonathan Nelson and Sonnie Badu entitled,“Baba” has been very instrumental in my life. It symbolizes for me, a prayer from the Lord, in which the Lord is requested to pour out his rain and shower us with His blessings. In his presence, these blessings fall to provide: Rain Rain Rain Rain Rain

In a nutshell, this song of prayer, encourages me through the trials and tribulations that life brings. It fills me with joy, showers me with hope, and strengthens my faith in the Lord. So, in order to become stronger in Christ, I face my storms head on and exercise my faith in God through prayer and perseverance. I adopt his word as a guide and aim to be in His presence to experience the good that comes through his blessings.

Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). One story, in particular, that serves as the pinnacle of faith in my life is the story of Peter and Jesus walking on water in Matthew 14:22-33 (NKJV):

Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary. Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear. But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!” And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased. Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” There are many lessons hidden in this encounter, but one I want to highlight specifically is the action that was taken in order for Peter to exercise His faith. As I prayed on this month’s topic of faith, and asked the Lord to reveal what he wanted to share with readers, he broke down the subject of faith for me into 5 instructions that we all can follow. These instructions were carried out by Peter when he got into the boat, and they provide us with a roadmap to follow in order to reach the point of stepping out of the boat. They serve as tools to strengthen our faith and allow us to evaluate our relationship with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The five steps to exercising faith include:

Follow. Ask. Invest. Trust. Hear

Follow:: “Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the

multitudes away.”

Jesus made his disciples get into the boat. Peter was a disciple of Christ and a disciple is also known as a student or follower of a teacher. Peter is the student, and Jesus is the teacher. In order to have faith we must first seek the Kingdom of God. We must have a desire to learn who Jesus is, and once we learn about him, we must believe what he teaches us. Jesus died on the cross as a sacrifice for our sins, and is now seated at the right hand of the Father. We must believe that God’s word is truth, and soak up all the knowledge our teacher shares with us through his word. All that grow to know God only do so through Christ. Therefore, we must follow Christ in order to gain salvation eternally and enter into the kingdom of heaven. We must follow Christ and live according to the Word in order to lead us through the Earth and live our best lives. Ask:: “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.” Peter asked the Lord to reveal himself and tested the spirit as he was taught. Peter, the student and disciple, opened up his mouth and asked his teacher a question so that he could learn the truth. We have not because we ask not.(James 4:3 KJV) Ask and it shall be given to you, seek and you will find.(Matthew 7:7 KJV) By asking the Lord for what we want, he will grant us the desires of our hearts in alignment with his Will. By following Christ, our hearts and minds are renewed, and His desires become our desires. When we ask for anything, we are simply asking our Father for what he has already given us and confirming our need for more of Him. Invest: So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. But

when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

Peter offered himself as an investment. He stepped out of the boat fearlessly and obeyed the teachers command to “come”. Peter had previously invested his time following and learning from the Lord, so when the chance to test his own spirit arose, he gave of himself both spiritually and physically. Whether we give of ourselves, our time, our money, or our materialistic items, investment involves giving up something of value to reap a greater return. Peter knew in His spirit that if the ghostly figure across the water was truly the Lord, then he would allow him to step out and walk on water. All that we are and were created to be is because of Christ. He invested in us and sacrificed his life for us. Therefore, we must also follow suit and invest in Him. To strengthen our faith, we must invest our time in getting to know Christ and building that relationship. In him is where we find a true return on our investment, because there is no one and no thing that holds more value. Trust: And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you

doubt?” And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

The minute Peter took his eyes off the Lord is the exact moment he began to doubt and allowed his belief in Christ to waiver. When he was in full belief of Christ and fully believed His words, and obeyed them, he walked on water when Jesus said “come”. The minute he turned away from Jesus and leaned on his own understanding of his physical situation, his belief faded. Trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not unto your own understanding (Proverbs 3:5). To trust is to believe; so believe in Christ. Believe that what He has promised you is true and do not doubt or second guess what God has lead you to do. Believe with your whole heart. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the belief in things unseen (Hebrews 11:1 KJV). Your belief in God and the measure of your faith depends on how much you actually believe. God has already promised that he will provide and deliver, and heal, and lead, and cover, and love, and help. He promised you, as His child, that he would be there for you and never leave you. He made a promise, and He never goes back on His promises. So, believe; because your Faith depends on it. Hear: Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” Once the others in the boat witnessed the encounter between Peter and Jesus, then, is when they believed that Jesus was telling the truth. They did not believe Him when He told them to “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.” They didn’t even believe when Peter chose to step out and believe. It was after the whole thing occurred when they chose to believe because they were able to see how things played out. Don’t be like the others in the boat. Believe the Lord the first time he speaks, and follow without question everytime He calls for you. Be his sheep, and embrace him as your shephard. John 10:27-28 KJV teaches us as His sheep Jesus knows us, we hear His voice, we know Him, and we follow Him. This brings faith full circle. As God’s sheep, we must put ourselves in a position to hear his voice. In order to hear Him, we must learn his voice. In order to know his voice, we must be around him and invest time in building a relationship with him. We invest this time because we believe and we believe in Him wholeheartedly. So because we believe, we listen and know that all that he has for us will be fulfilled, according to our FAITH. God may be calling you to step out of the boat and exercise your FAITH. Will you trust the voice of God and respond to his call? Will you Follow Him? Will you Ask Him? Will you Invest in Him? Will you trust Him? Will you listen to Him? God’s Word is simple and faith involves action. How will you step out and exercise your FAITH?

EVER FAITHFUL FEBRUARY PAGE 18

"By: Chriscynthia Calhoun

February is usually the time of year I settle down after the holidays to reflect over the past 12 months: what worked, what did not, and what I learned from my experiences. However, as I was thinking over the events of the past year, it occurred to me that no matter what, the things that have always “worked” for me are “the constants” in my life: family, my church, very dear friends and above all, my all enduring faith in God. It has not always been a smooth road that brought me to this resolve. Honestly, it was pure struggle at first, but along the way I dared to allow my faith to become bigger than my dreams.

“But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him” -Hebrews 11:6 (KJV) When I was 13 years old, we moved from Los Angeles to Dallas, because

my mother wanted to go back home to be around her family after my parents divorced. There were a lot of things going on, and since I was the eldest child, I assumed a lot of responsibility In the middle of the night, I would awaken and pray for my family; especially my mom since she was raising us in a single parent home. I talked to the Lord about everything, because that is what I was taught to do, and I simply trusted in Him that much. Years later, even though my basic love, respect and awe of my Father in Heaven was still intact, somewhere along the way I experienced extreme trauma and major disappointments that affected my faith. I developed a fear of the known and unknown alike, which often left me in a perpetual state of disbelief in myself, and the power of my Father in Heaven. It affected everything: my thoughts, emotions, and even my interactions with those I loved the most.

Sadly, for many years, I became a bystander, watching my own life march on without me at the helm. I allowed circumstances and the way things “looked” dictate the altitude of my faith. If someone made a critical remark, I took it to heart and permitted myself to be judged in the “court of public opinion.” My mother raised us in church, I grew up quoting scriptures about faith, being fearless and taking my troubles to the Lord. Yet, many times, I could not practically apply those very same principles that were the very foundation of my existence. Sure, I believed it in theory, but too often, the minute my faith got tested, I would fold like an umbrella. Yes, I believed there was a God who loved me, but I realize now that I did not love myself enough to embrace simple truths straight from the pages of my beloved Bible.

God has your back, just have faith!

The first thing that the disciples missed is that they did not know who they were walking with. They did not realize the power and might of the one who got in the boat with them. Much like us in our daily lives;

By: Elsonia Swarts

we fail to recognize Jesus in everything we do, we fail to recognize him in our lives.

Then Jesus got into the boat and started across the lake with his disciples. Suddenly, a fierce storm struck the lake, with waves breaking into the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him up, shouting, “Lord, save us! We are going to drown!” Jesus responded, “Why are you afraid? You have so little faith!” Then he got up and rebuked the wind and waves, and suddenly there was great calm. The disciples were amazed. “Who is this man?” They asked. “Even the winds and waves obey him!” Matthew 8: 23-27 NLT.

Do not fear, just have faith! The second thing they did not know was that there was no need to be afraid; there was no need for them to let the storm change their mood. We too as human beings need not be afraid when the storms of life break into our lives. We need to realize that the One that walks this journey called life with us is mighty and able to calm those storms; we just need to have faith in Him.

Awaken the faith in you! The third thing the disciples did was wake Jesus and ask him to save them. That was a very smart move from the disciples’ side. We also need to call out to Jesus and ask him to save us from our sinful ways for we will drown without Him. What will Jesus do when you call on Him to save you? He will do what you asked and save you. Awaken the faith within you and wake up your Savior. Do not limit your faith in the Lord, for He will bring great calmness!!!

Have faith filled life!

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible. Matthew 17:20 NLT
