Begin your career as a valued member of the healthcare team—trained to work under the direction of a physician to take and record vital signs and medical histories, prepare patients for examination, draw blood, administer medications and injections, perform minor surgery, schedule appointments, maintain medical records, and assist with billing and coding. Graduates sit for the Certified Medical Assistant Certification Exam to earn the credential CMA (AAMA) and find employment in a physician’s office, clinic or other healthcare facility.
The IRSC Medical Assisting Career and Technical Education program is a selective-admissions program. Final consideration is based upon completion of the following prior to the application deadline. Applicants must • Be at least 18 years of age prior to the first day of class; • Complete the IRSC Application for Admission; • Complete the IRSC Health Science Application and pay the $30 application fee; • Ensure all official transcripts are on file at IRSC Student Records; and • Consult the Medical Assisting Application Book for additional application requirements. Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. The Medical Assisting program at Indian River State College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
