Begin your career as a valued member of the legal team—ready to assist attorneys in their legal practices. Interest in the law, analytical skills and attention to detail are very important for those entering the legal field as paraprofessionals. Graduates of the Associate Degree in Paralegal Studies/ Legal Assisting program have the option to obtain paralegal certification to stand out when seeking employment with law firms, legal departments of corporations, governmental agencies, real estate companies, banks and insurance companies. Current employees at law firms will enhance and develop the skills and knowledge needed for advancement.


The Associate in Science Degree in Paralegal Studies/Legal Assisting program prepares students with good communication, research, writing and computer skills. Become familiar with ethical issues, statutes, court procedures and transactional matters, and engage in work-based learning experiences. Learn to draft and file documents, support lawyers in preparing for trials and maintain client relationships. Students have access to the latest legal resources in the Bergalis Paralegal Suite and receive practical testimony experience in the Judge Nourse Courtroom at the Treasure Coast Public Training Complex at Indian River State College. Completion of the Associate in Science Degree provides the technical core for the Bachelor’s Degree in Public Administration for those seeking leadership positions with law enforcement, fire/emergency medical services, emergency management and non-profit agencies at the local, state and national level. Applicants must • Complete the IRSC Application for Admission and • Submit official high school or GED® transcript, previous college transcripts and college placement scores (ACT®, SAT® or P.E.R.T.) to IRSC Student Records—as appropriate.
