Begin your career as a valued member of the healthcare team—trained to care for patients with respiratory or other cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory therapists care for premature infants, elderly patients and patients suffering from heart attacks, drowning and chronic lung disease. Respiratory Care professionals generally seek employment in a hospital or other medical facility.
The Associate in Science Degree in Respiratory Care is a selective-admissions program. You’ll be trained in the use of medical gases, medication, aerosols and chest physiotherapy. You’ll also learn about airway management, mechanical ventilation and cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Then, you’ll put what you’ve learned to work through real-world clinical experiences at a local hospital. Final consideration is based upon completion of the following prior to the application deadline. Applicants must • Be at least 18 years of age prior to the first day of class; • Have a high school diploma or GED®; • Complete the IRSC Application for Admission; • Complete the IRSC Health Science Application and pay the $30 application fee; • Ensure all official transcripts are on file at IRSC Student Records; and • Consult the Respiratory Care Application Book for additional application requirements.
Financial assistance is available to those who qualify. The IRSC Associate in Science in Respiratory Care program at Indian River State College is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care (CoARC).
