Are you looking for an exciting opportunity to increase your chances of going to college? Eighty-six percent of Upward Bound participants enroll in college after high school. Upward Bound is a federally-funded, pre-college program designed to help motivated high school students gain con fi dence and experiences that prepare them for a path to personal, educational and career achievement. It is one of the TRIO programs that IRSC offers free-of-charge to help low-income individuals, fi rst-generation college students and individuals with disabilities continue their education and achieve academic success.
Eligibility
St. Lucie County Upward Bound applicants must:
• Be a citizen, national or permanent resident of the United States;
• Be a resident of St. Lucie County;
• Have, at the time of initial selection, completed the eighth grade but not entered the 12th grade and be at least 13 years old but not older than 19;
• Demonstrate the need for academic support;
• Be a low-income, first-generation college student; and
• Complete the Upward Bound Application for Admission. Services
• After-school tutoring and Saturday instruction
• College tours and cultural activities
• Student conferences and workshops
• Summer Residential program
• College entrance exam preparation (i.e., ACT® and SAT®)
• Post-secondary opportunities and financial aid information
• College application and FAFSA® assistance
• Career counseling
• Mentoring programs
