This project was developed by Maria Alejandra Manchego and Isabella Vargas students of Industrial Design from Universidad Jorge Tadeo Lozano. Bogotรก, Colombia
Located in Le marchÊ de Wazemmes, La Cuisine Migratoire is a service model in which immigrants connect with each other’s cultures through the activity of cooking, and engage to the city, riding a bike to explore the place while they collect clean energy to contribute to the kitchen’s autonomy.
Proyect Boarding Our project was born from the curiosity about the events
an immigrant student faces when interacting with others. While looking after the academic scenario in Lille, we
found that University Lille 1: of science and technology, welcomes 4000 foreign students every year, the fifth
part of its whole population, a friendly environment for cultural exchange.
Besides that fact, we wondered on the social dynamics
held in the host context towards immigrant inclusion. Taking Lille’s multicultural richness as an advantage, we
digged on the contribution an arriving person could make to the city.
We postulated that he or she who migrates, changes. But
also has the possibility to change the place s-he inhabits.
IN LILLE 1, 20% Of the students are inmigrants
Which means
In a group of 5 students 1 is a foreigner that is his cultures, his costums and habits are different
What is it?
IS A MEDIATOR, A LINK, TO SHARE CULTURAL IDENTITIES
WITHIN
THE IMMIGRANTS
TROUGHT FOOD IN LILLES
What for? To preserve collective experiences in food rituals, the
sense of sharing as a main principle at the meal time
since these habits have been modifying gradually, due to the acceleration of our routines, individualizing the way we eat.
The immigrant is our main character. Due to the social
situation they’re involved in, we consider pertinent to highlight their knowledge, their experiences, their contributive places.
Who will be involved? Our design addresses the student community of the center of the city:
In an experimental choosing of a group to start the
project, we took the students of the universities around the urban geography, because as students we define
our community as curious, eager for knowledge and experiences with people from other contexts, cultures and histories; we are flexible to the possibilities of
success or failure when there’s a promise of an emotional experience..
How? Through the implementation of a social inclusion activity which emphasises the gastronomical inheritance of the
immigrant in a urban space, taking the activity of cooking
as one of the best ways to connect and interact with others. La cuisine migratoire is mediated by three objects:
The Place A place, a static kitchen located on Le marchĂŠ de Wazemmes
in the city center. It is static because, as in the metaphor of migration, it is always the user who travels not the
place. Architecturally, this space intervention generates a
gathering venue that works coherently with the meaning of the market, it would encourage the participation of all guests when cooking.
The energy generator An energy generator and reserve battery module. The kinetic-to-electrical energy generators are attached to a group of public bicycles of V’Lille, and the battery module is
for personal use. This is a requirement for the participation
in the activity, so, the more the participant uses the system, the more energy he/she gets to contribute for the heating and cooking processes.
Dynamo that generates energy and reserve it
The Dynamo comes with a cover that show how many energy has been raised during the use of the bicycle
The app An application. A community bridge which helps coordinate the settings of the activity in between participants, starting
with the creation of personal profiles and assigning the cultural interaction groups.
