I SAB E LLA ALVARADO Architecture Student HELLO! I am a Fifth Year Masters of Architecture student seeking employment within the industry keen to gain as much experience as I can. I am eager to join your team and apply my efforts and skills to contribute to some great projects. My interests within architecture are projects those that involve potent and rich design thinking, those that interrogate the level experience from the smallest details, whilst executing it with style and charm. Ways in which I think I will be useful is my strong ability to produce beautiful drawing sets and years of model making experience by hand and by lasercutter. I have used Revit for documentation, but I have general knowledge so far as I am self taught, although happy to learn Revit/ArchiCAD etc on the job or learn on the side. So far my Masters education has given me hands on knowledge on what to expect on real life projects ie. planning property reports, town planning applications, regulations and compliancies etc. I havn’t had any long term experience in a firm as I personally wanted to develop as a student of architecture with completing Masters of Architecture units. This is to develop further confidence in being aquainted with practical industry knowledge. But nonetheless I would really appreciate the oppurtunity to extend my skills and knowledge further. Kind Regards, Isabella Alvarado

Situated in an awkward and harsh pocket of land in Jolimont. Jolimont Arch arises from the ground boasting as Melbourne’s newest apartment highrise.

LIVING ROOM

Capitalising on it’s stunning 360 views and close proximity to public transport and the Melbourne CBD. The project is a proven feasible venture with enough yield to turn profit, due to initial land cost and appropriate responses to Residential Development trends existing here in Melbourne. The essence of this studio is to be introduced to the real life politics of designing and constructing a building, Also added is how to carefully design apartments to suit Melbourne’s booming projected population and development trends, whilst challenging traditional normalities

INTERNAL RENDER OF PRIMARY SCHOOL

The main focus of the Docklands primary school is the integration of a newly reformed radical school model. This study comes from an intense interrogation of the current education system which is inherited from 13th century Prussian nation building models. The Docklands primary school hopes to leave this dated system and strive for a more contemporary answer that better suits the advanced cultural and technology advanced environment of today’s times. The new school model recognizes the creative potential and the highly collaborative nature of today’s children and for that, the school’s architecture lends itself to enhancing the balance between work and play, encouraging a passion for learning and focusing attention on the children as individuals as opposed to a collective of children in the same class.

The Docklands Primary School is the integration of a newly reformed radical school model. This study comes from an intense interrogation of the current education system which is inherited from 13th century Prussian nation building models.

The new school model segregates the classroom into 3 different types of spaces, the first is the “classic classroom” which calls for large group learning or lecture style teachings. This is initiated by open space and amphitheatre steps. The second learning space is the “collaborative areas” where lounging and furniture enhances easy group work activities. Third is the intersection between “individual learning spaces” and “ambiguous circulation”. Smaller spaces that can be cut off from larger circulation space inherit a more fluid usage of space which is what the school’s design is essentially all about. Throughout the school, traditional understandings of what a school is and what it should look like are challenged, this is an iteration of what primary schools should aim to look like and achieve in the future.

The following is a set of documentation drawings documenting a recreation centre designed by our group. It’s aim is to essentially mirror a client-architect design build situation. In designing and documenting, there was also filling out Client ArchitectAgreement (CAA) forms and submitting Town Planning Applications. Our group practised under the name, Studio KIP and the following sheets are all produced by me with Rhino Drafting Tools.

B I G W E ST F E STIVAL

STUDIO GROUP PROJECT: “HAWKER CART” KITCHEN UNIT TUTOR: NIGEL BERTRAM (NMBW) TORAFU ARCHITECTS (JAPAN) IMAGES: PETER BENNETTS Big West was a design-make studio run by Nigel Bertram (NMBW) with TORAFU architects, where we collaborated with festival organisers and Victoria University trainee students who were making the shell of a real life house. It was a 9 day festival in Footscray and the house staged as a venue and stage for the festval’s performing arts.

20

Our response was a movable kitchen unit, inspired by the compactibility and convenience of Asian hawker carts. The unit attaches to the back of the house creating this dual interface that encourages back and forth activation from between the house and the backyard of the house. In some occasions it operates as a bar servicing occupants outside, or other times it can be wheeled around the same as you would with a portable barbeque. Its versitlity creates a cross cultural refrence between Asian hawker carts and the classic Aussie barbeque/bar unit.
