Isabella Alvarado Hello, My name is Isabella Alvarado, and I am a recent Graduate of Architecture from Monash University. I am looking for a position in an environment where I can expand my responsibility and breadth of knowledge. After recently graduating I wanted to make sure that projects I’m involved with were similar to the values I am more inclined to, ideally spaces and forms that are charming but authentic. I have had experience in commercial projects, small to large scale from working at Gray Puksand for nine months. I am mostly a Revit user and is confident in standard documentation. Aside from aspirations and experience, my folio would show that I like to expand my work beyond university and the office,. I have participated in competitions, festivals and exhibitions, I show an interest in comtemporary urban/architecture concerns and most importantly have chosen to do work that is not only collaborative but multi-disciplinary, from construction, to fashion, communication design and art. I hope to use this oppurtunity of a Graduate position to devote more time to projects, learn to manage responsibility and work on executing honest and thoughtful work. PROJECT DESCRIPTION Situated in an awkward and harsh pocket of land in Jolimont. Jolimont Arch arises from the ground boasting as Melbourne’s newest apartment highrise. Capitalising on it’s stunning 360 views and close proximity to public transport and the Melbourne CBD. The project is a proven feasible venture with enough yield to turn profit, due to initial land cost and appropriate responses to Residential Development trends existing here in Melbourne. The essence of this studio is to be introduced to the real life politics of designing and constructing a building, Also added is how to carefully design apartments to suit Melbourne’s booming projected population and development trends, whilst challenging traditional normalities

Electrical Trades Union (ETU) is a project I worked on at Gray Puksand, I assisted during the Design Document + Construction Documentation Phase. In this project I was responsible for Documenting Amenities + Reception Area, liasing with Interior Designers on schedules, building joinery and furniture on Revit. This project exposed me to alot of BCA knowledge in regards to DDA amenities, furniture and joinery fixtures and simple space planning.

The piece presented is an entry by another student and I, inspired by Leonard French’s famous glass stained roof. Big West Festival
Big West was a design-make studio run by Nigel Bertram (NMBW) with TORAFU architects, where we collaborated with festival organisers and Victoria University trainee students who were making the shell of a real life house. It was a 9 day festival in Footscray and the house staged as a venue and stage for the festval’s performing arts.

Our response was a movable kitchen unit, inspired by the compactibility and convenience of Asian hawker carts. The unit attaches to the back of the house creating this dual interface that encourages back and forth activation from between the house and the backyard of the house. In some occasions it operates as a bar servicing occupants outside, or other times it can be wheeled around the same as you would with a portable barbeque. Its versatility creates a cross cultural reference between Asian hawker-carts and the classic Aussie barbeque/bar unit.

FINAL PRODUCT SHOWN AT TOCUMWAL TOWN HALL 2018 The commitee of Strawberry Fields Music Festival 2018 approached Monash University students to participate in the design and construction of a stage/gallery to be used in the festival. The work shown is my contribution to the project which are defined as A-Frame modular internal walls used to display local artwork. The structure is made from 100% hand sourced recycled material and is designed for continued re use and re assembly.
