Thie project is aiming to help homeless people in Glasgow by giving them skills because give them money and food won’t solve the problem permanently. Knowing how hard to earn money from working is another thing that I think they should experince, so they don’t waste money on drug. From my research Hospitality industry in the UK employment trend is growing 22 percent this year. In this Hospitality School will train people to become a baker, bartender, barista and catering. There will be job adviser for them as well. Further aim is for them to run this school for less hire trainer and also, work in our charity shop that sells cookbook and cafe where we get the funding from. Ans hopefully by the time they get a job they save up enough to by their own home.

HYGIENIC To keeping them stay clean and hygiene. Before coming to a student at our school there will be a service for cleaning and also hair cut for every student. And they have to wear an apron all the time when they are in classroom. We also provide a shower and changing room at the school.

WHERE ARE THEY SLEEPING There are some social housing for homeless people already in Southside of Glasgow, such as Glasgow city mission, Turning Point Scotland Glasgow, The Marie Trust and more. But the reason I chose the site on Sauchiehall street because their are a lot more homeless people on how have not yet joined these care service and these social housing.

HOW ARE THEY GET TO OUR SCHOOL

From some of the research that I have done. Most of the homeless services are around the south side of Glasgow. Consequently, I think our shuttle bus would go around that area to pick them up and returning them to these services every day.

HOW WE DEAL WITH FOOD WASTE

Every food they cook in our school is for them to eat or take away. This way would help with food waste and also made they want to come to school as well because they get a free meal. Some of the food that the chef or trainer was cooked, I want everything that will be selling in this cafe hygiene and safe.

LOCATION

Scott St

Hill St

I have chosen this site because the location is suited to my project since this site is on Sauchiehall Street. It is very clear to me that every time I walk along down this street I usually see at least 4 - 5 homeless people who sleeping there or begging on the street. So I think it is a perfect location. Firstly, it is easy to get attention from them, so it is less cost on promoting the school. Secondly, this building size is not too big and it is a new building with glass window facade which is also good to get public involving.

MATERIAL PALETTE Today also thinking about cheap material as well since it is a charity project and I want to keep the budget low and doable. I went to Glasgow Architectural Salvage to looking at things that can be use in the school. There are a lot of doors and walls that has been taken down form the old building. There are also a lot of furnitures such as chairs, lamp, fireplace and even door handle. At Glasgow Wood Recycling they have a showroom for sell the furniture they made from recycle wood. They have the workshop just next to the showroom. In their workshop, there are a lot of wooden sheets and the wooden stick as well. I have the idea on furniture detail that how each piece of a furniture is attached. I was thinking that if I want to use old material and I also want to use a sustainable material, why not find the way to putting them together by using less chemical way as possible. Most of the furniture will be putting together by itself or using the screws.
