Welcome!

It’s a pleasure to welcome you to this, the 14th Annual… INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM for AVIATION PHOTOGRAPHY! Our mission is to provide a major international forum for the art and science of aviation photography; to provide a means for the exchange of aviation photography ideas, technique, philosophy, and equipment; and perhaps most importantly, to provide a mechanism for communication, education, and friendship among those who have a professional stake in, interest in, or simple love of aviation photography. We’re very pleased you could join us. We have a terrific schedule lined up and the slate of speakers and special guests is truly world class. He delivered his final products to the Flight Test Center, the Department of Defense, and various other contract customers. 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. JIM KOEPNICK Jim Koepnick is one of today’s leading aviation photographers, shooting for Cirrus Aircraft, Flying magazine, Plane and Pilot, Air & Space Smithsonian, AOPA, EAA, and Sigma. He also shoots for the USA Today Network-Wisconsin in the Oshkosh area, specializing in sports and action. His freelance clients include Ripon College and Our Wisconsin Magazine. He is a Sigma Pro photographer. He served as the Experimental Aviation Association’s chief photographer for 28 years. In that role, he photographed more than 1,000 aircraft during air-to-air missions, landing more than 500 covers on various EAA publications. He received ISAP’s prestigious George Hall Lifetime Achievement award in 2012. Koepnick’s presentation will emphasize his recent career transitions, shifting from a staff photographer position to freelancing, and evolving his aviation photography to emphasize people, lighting, and other elements instead of focusing primarily on air-to-air imagery.

1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. CHRIS HIBBEN Chris Hibben, an Oshkosh, Wisconsin native, is the owner of Snap 180 Media. For more than 15 years, he has used his creative eye to build an extensive award-winning portfolio. He has been a videographer and producer for many national TV Networks, including ABC, CBS, NBC, ESPN and FOX. In 2005, Chris branched out on his own, opening Snap 180 Media in Oshkosh. His company provides services from network television broadcast and graphic design to still photography. Snap 180 Media has developed into a leading business in Northeast Wisconsin. Chris is also a Technical Sergeant in the Air Force Reserve. He is stationed at March Air Reserve Base and is an Aerial Combat Photographer with the 4th Combat Camera Squadron. When asked what he really does in the Reserves he said, “I take pictures, pictures of really cool things, all over the world, and am very proud to serve my country.”

ISAP Members introductory slideshow. 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. SCOTT DWORKIN His freelance work led to him being hired by the United States Air Force Flight Test Center at Edwards Air Force Base in California. While there he provided aerial multimedia, both air-to-air and airto-ground coverage, including still photography, high definition videography, high-speed video, and post production. He routinely flew in various Air Force aircraft to provide documentation of ordnance and

2:30 p.m. to 2:45 p.m. BREAK 2:45 p.m. to 3:45 p.m. KRISTOPHER “KRIS” HAUGH Kris Haugh, is the PAO for NAF El Centro. He graduated from the American Military University with a bachelor’s degree in Military History and a master’s degree in Holocaust and Genocide Studies from

AGENDA Gratz College, where he is a doctoral candidate. He retired from the U.S. Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after a 23-year career. He served aboard two aircraft carriers, three submarine tenders and one supply ship. His academic focus has been on the societal impacts of warfare during World War II and the use of history to develop future strategies and tactics. He will discuss the interaction and relationship between a military installation public affairs officer and the aviation photography community, with an emphasis on best practices for getting access and working with other public affairs officers. 3:45 p.m. to 4:15 p.m. Closing remarks and update on the field trip 4:15 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Nikon Professional Services Welcome Reception Cash bar and hors d’oeuvres Members will have the chance to catch up and share stories. ISAP GEORGE HALL LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Jay Miller Jay Miller began photographing aviation subjects nearly 50 years ago and, in addition to countless shoots for a wide variety of editorial and commercial clients; he has authored or co-authored 36 books and more than a thousand magazine and newspaper articles; and has served several aviation museums in a variety of roles, including as the director of both the American Airlines C.R. Smith Museum and the Flying Heritage Collection, amassed by Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen and today displayed at the Flying Heritage and Combat Armor Museum. Over the years Miller assembled one of the world’s most significant aviation and aerospace reference libraries, consisting of approximately 10,000 books dating to 1765, more than 100,000 periodicals, and some 1.2 million photographic images. His collection was acquired by the Aerospace Education Center in Little Rock, Arkansas, in 1992, and was transferred to the San Diego Air & Space Museum in 2015. In addition, Miller co-founded ISAP in 2001 and led the organization until 2013.

Brig. Gen. Keith B. Connolly Brig. Gen. Keith B. Connolly entered the Air Force in January 1956 as an aviation cadet and through his distinguished career, he logged more than 4,800 flying hours in F-86s, F-100s, A-7s, F-4s, F-15s, and F-16s. That experience included 172 combat missions over North Vietnam, Cambodia, and Laos.

He will talk about his experiences flying the F-100 Super Sabre, the first mass-produced fighter to break the sound barrier in straight-and-level flight thanks to its afterburner. The first operational jet used in Vietnam, Connolly logged 1,987 hours in the F-100 over 10 years. His presentation will cover tactical fighter employment concepts as well as the Super Sabre itself.
