Educational programme and organisation We follow the Early Years Foundation Stage framework for England and Wales. Teaching is often done through a multi-sensory, play based approach, which can be child initiated or teacher led. All areas of learning are integrated so many objectives can be achieved simultaneously by each learning opportunity provided.

The curriculum is split in seven areas of learning:  Personal, Social and Emotional Development  Communication and Language  Physical development  Literacy  Mathematics  Understanding of the World  Expressive Arts and Design These are the prime areas and specific areas. In Nursery learning will focus on the prime areas until children are confident in these then other specific areas will be introduced.

These 7 areas as well as ongoing observations, assessments and your child’s interests are used to plan suitable learning opportunities and activities that support each child’s individual needs.

Children in the EYFS learn through play and exploration, physical activity, being creative and thinking critically. These learning opportunities may take place both inside and outside the classroom.

Day Trips and Community visits Each class in Reception usually goes on a day trip each term that supports the learning within the classroom.

Homework: Home learning activities are sometimes set to reinforce and extend learning in Reception. These are usually activities on education city or bug club. However, there are no formal requirements for Nursery children to complete homework. On the weekly newsletter for both Nursery and Reception, there is a ‘how to help your child at home’ section. Here teachers will put ideas of things you can do to support your child’s learning at home or sometimes a specific activity. Reception: Phonics work and reading books will be sent home after half term in October. You will need to spend sometime each day reading at home with your child. Learning to write (name).
