ISB International Piano Competition 1st Edition May 30th – June 15th
Welcome! We have the honour and privilege to invite you to the 1st edition of the ISB International Piano Competition. The event comes as a celebration of one of ISB’s most important values – Global Citizenship. Our school understands the concept of Global Citizenship is based on values that transcend geopolitical borders, connecting the world through the actions of learning, exploring, understanding, protecting and respecting the diversity of cultures whilst collaborating to preserve the environment. As an international school operating in a world full of global opportunities based on freedom of movement and freedom of speech, we are proud to have Global Citizenship as one of our core values. After the unfortunate year we have all been through, with some of us not being able to see loved ones close to home and others cut away from loved ones overseas, we are thrilled to find new ways of getting the best out of a bad situation and celebrate our identity as global citizens. ISB International Piano Competition offers young enthusiasts and professional piano students alike, an opportunity to share their talent and resilience in the face of one of the worst years for the artistic world, coming together in celebration of music, collaboration and determination. We look forward to welcoming you to this online International Piano Competition and to provide you with the opportunity to shine!
Who is it for? ● Open to piano students coming from Eastern European Countries Romania, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Moldova. ● Open to enthusiasts and professional piano students aged between 7 and 18 years old.

Age Categories *Competitors must have the right age for their category on the deadline of submission: 30th of May, 2021 A: ENTHUSIASTS Students who study piano as a hobby, have worked for a maximum of 2 years before the competition OR do not attend a professional state music school / junior conservatoire program.
A1: 7-9 years old A2: 10-12 years old A3: 13-15 years old A4: 16-18 years old
B: PROFESSIONAL STUDY Students who study piano at a professional performance level, aiming for a career as a performer. They must have studied for at least 2 years before the competition OR attend a professional state music school or junior conservatoire program. However, any participant may enter this category, as long as it is understood that the performance will be judged according to higher level of expectations. B1: 10-12 years old B2: 13-15 years old B3: 16-18 years old
Repertoire All candidates must perform the following works from memory: 1. Classical Piece (Baroque/Classical/Romantic/Modern) 2. Classical / Jazz / Blues / Pop / Rock / Folk piece containing traditional elements from any chosen country, other than the one where the contestant comes from.
Adjudication & Online Gala Concert The organisers reserve the right to select the jury members. The panel will consist of professional musicians, teachers and/or performers. The jury’s decisions regarding the winners of the competition are final and irrevocable. The jury will evaluate performances based on the following criteria: - Correct adherence to the musical score (rhythmic precision and note accuracy) - Technical abilities (fingerwork, hand coordination, sound quality, pedal use) - Artistic performance / interpretation (adhering to the character of the piece) - Repertoire difficulty (appropriate difficulty for the student’s age and level) - Overall stage presence (mimics, gestures, posture) Results will be announced during the Online Gala Concerts taking place as follows: 1. Category A - Enthusiasts: June 14th, 17:00 (GMT+3) 2. Category B - Professional Study: June 15th, 17:00 (GMT+3) The zoom link for the Online Gala Concerts will be emailed to all participants, 24h before the event. The performances of the Absolute Winner and the First Prize Winners will stream live as part of the event.

Applications Candidates will enrol in the competition here, no later than MAY 30 TH. Candidates must prepare the following documents before completing the form for enrolment: 1. Video recording of the participant performance Mandatory requirements regarding the video recording: - Total Video Time for each category: A1: (1-3 minutes) A2: (3-5 minutes) A3: (5-7 minutes) A4: (7-10 minutes) B1: (5-7 minutes) B2: (7-10 minutes) B3: (10-13 minutes) - Pieces should not include repetitions, unless these are marked with volta brackets - High quality video recording - The video should be shot from a fixed angle - The video should clearly show the candidate’s face and hands - Candidates must perform both works in the same video file.
- The video file title must include the candidate’s full name and category: e.g. Jon Doe – A1 * Candidates are exclusively responsible for the quality of the video recording. Any attempt to audio edit the footage will result in being excluded from the contest. *Recordings captured on the occasion of recitals or other musical events are accepted if they are not older than 6 months. 2. Scanned copies of the music scores of the candidate’s repertoire for the competition 3. A copy of the candidate’s birth certificate / ID / Passport 4. A recent passport photo 5.
