Research has shown that extracurricular activities are an important aspect of education. The benefits to students of participation in these activities are numerous. Extracurricular activities provide all students with equal opportunity to explore their individual interests. The benefits increase with the number and variety of choices so that more students' individual needs and interests can be met. Through extracurricular activities, students form a positive and voluntary connection to school. Connections are formed between students, faculty and peer groups. Relationships are built between students and positive adult role models who sponsor or participate in these activities. Additionally, it has been shown that this increase in a student's commitment to school and school values can also lead to better academic performance. ISB administrators and teachers are committed to providing a wide range of extracurricular activities for students. The variety and scope of activities offered is extensive so that every child in the school has a good chance to participate in an activity that is of interest to him or her. At ISB Primary, students as young as year one class can begin to participate in extracurricular activities. The activities available increase as students get older.
