2009—2010

ISB is expanding. A villa has been rented in Pipera and staff are working hard to convert it to ISB's Early Learning Centre, a school for under seven years olds. The building is on four floors and has ample space for classrooms, a cafeteria and a PE room. The villa is set in a mature garden, providing plenty of shaded areas for outdoor fun. The Early Learning Centre will follow the same National Curriculum for England and Wales as ISB does, making it a great place for young children to start their education and then transfer to ISB when they are older. If you are interested in viewing or enrolling your child at ISB's Early Learning Centre please contact Cristina Sirbu on 021 306 9530. ISB's Early Learning Centre will be fully operational by September 2010, but will except children for daycare from mid-April. Come and take a look it will be a very special place for children to learn.

Students in our primary school enjoy attending our wide range of club activities. The clubs allow students to work and play together. Many of the activities are offered in a range of ages, which allow the enhancement and development of social skills. Clubs run both afterschool and at lunch break. Clubs are all great fun! With the opening of several new clubs; violin, climbing, recorder, detectives and culture of character, this term promises to be the most exciting yet! We now offer 21 different clubs to our students on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. The new program of summer clubs will be announced after the half term break. Hurry up to register as soon as they are announced because some popular clubs fill up very quickly.

Friday 5th February was party day at ISB. The day started with the Nursery party organised by Brigitte Vondenhoff. The children played games, painted their noses red, sang songs and ate a delicious lunch. In the afternoon it was the turn of Reception and Key Stage One. The children changed into their party clothes, played

games, ate a delicious snack, enjoyed a clown show and tried to get the sweets from inside a pinata. After school it was the turn of the KS2 students, who enjoyed a Salsa dancing competition. A huge thank you to Ismene Reeves, and all of the parents and teachers who made this event such a lot of fun for the childen.

As part of ISB’s Winter Sports Activities, children from Key Stage 2 went to Predeal for a day’s skiing on Saturday 30th of January 2010. You can see all the fabulous photos by checking out our gallery section (www.isb.ro). This was a fantastic opportunity for children to learn to ski or simply to enjoy a day skiing with their friends. The programme included a ski lesson with professional ski instructors, food, fun games and other PE activities related to winter sports. The children were very excited but were a real credit to their school showing off their best behavior. Like all these events they don’t happen by magic and I would like to thank all the parents and teachers that helped during the day. The ski trip was another great success and again we all just can’t wait for the next one!

Ice-skating Week has become a tradition at ISB as this is now the second year when children and teachers from Key Stage 2 have gone to Cismigiu Park. Each day of the week, a different year group, have been improving their skills on the ice. The children had so much fun and it was great seeing so many smiles on their faces. The teachers enjoyed seeing the children’s confidence grow as they sped round the ice. I think everyone agreed that they now can’t wait for next year’s ice skating week. However, if you don’t do already why not take your children yourself. It’s a great way to have a family day out! And if you can’t skate yourself you don’t have to worry as they will teach you themselves!

PTA Traditional Dance Evening On Monday 25th January as the students were leaving ISB, teachers from all around the city were arriving to attend the Bucharest Early Years Group meeting. Teachers from five other international schools came to ISB to look at resources and share ideas concerning interesting places to take students on trips. Our visitors were very impressed and complimentary about our school, and enjoyed looking at the attractive displays created by our teachers. This was also a great opportunity for teachers to network with people doing similar jobs elsewhere in the city. Thank you very much to Kati Rhodes for organising this highly successful event.

Dear Parents, The PTA is organizing a Dancing Evening for parents and teachers, on Friday 26th February 2010, 8pm, at the exclusive Floreasca Club. We will be learning Greek and Romanian Traditional Dances. The tickets will be 120 Ron/person, and will be available from the Primary School Secretary from Monday 22 February. The ticket will include a buffet and drinks. We hope you can come as we look forward to spending the evening with you.

‘Non uniform’ day for Haiti The students and staff in Key Stage One have been working really hard this term to create the production 'Mr. Skellybones'. A musical all about the human body. The children have learnt songs about healthy food and exercise, and the function of different parts of their bodies. They have learnt dances and helped to make scenery for the show. This has all linked closely with the Science units they have been learning about this term. Thank you to all of the KS1 staff for making this event happen, despite the snow, and to Ms. Adina for accompanying the children so beautifully on the piano.

Our students are truly International and they are interested in their world. Everyone saw the terrible news from Haiti and ISB students thought: " What can we do?" So, the student Council, led by Ms. Denise and Ms. Daiana came up with the idea of "Fashion Without Borders". On Friday 12th February students are coming to school in their fashionable clothes. They are all paying a "Fashion Fine" of at least 10 RON to help the people of Haiti. Ms Sorana, Ms Daiana and Ms Blessy have also been busy with groups of creative students, making badges and friendship bracelets. Fashion Accessories for a good cause! Ms Sorana will also be painting faces at breaktimes - so Secondary students will be even more beautiful than normal. We hope to raise a record amount for Haiti!
