Rivers Project by Year 6

Winter Parties by PTA

On the 23rd of January, after school, we had the winter parties for the primary children. There were approximately 180 children divided in three parties. We had a big bouncy castle in the foyer, three clowns, and party games for the EYF children and karaoke competition for KS1 and KS2. For the older children the karaoke was the most exciting activity. As for the younger ones the bouncy castle was the favourite. The parties ended with the children getting a bag of sweets. It was good to see all those smiling faces. We give our most sincere thank you to all the parents and teachers that help supervising the three parties. Without you we couldn’t have Year Six have been studying rivers and are undertaking fieldwork on the River Dambovita, Bucharest as part of this. done it. Class 6F have already been to study the river near Izvor. They travelled from Republica to Izvor by metro. At the river they engaged in practical activities linked to Maths, such as measuring the width of the river. They also learned how to measure the rate of flow of the river. They noted how the river environment in town is made up of apartments and various businesses. The pupils enjoyed this quick action packed trip. Classes 6H and 6F will be undertaking this trip in March. Gordon Hamilton Humanities Co‐ordinator

Golden Rules for a Golden Girl!

The students of ISB have been busy learning and following the Golden Rules in school. So we thought to give them a helping hand we would paint another colourful Mural on the wall of the Year 3 and 4 landing. Ms. Raluca one of our many talented artists took charge and sketched out the rules with a number of excellent pictures to show the Golden Rules in action. In the photo you can see Ms.Raluca busy at work with some of our up and coming Da Vinci look alikes helping her. This Mural needs to be seen to be believed so come up and have a look! As to the future...there is no telling where Ms. Raluca's brush will fall next!

The International School of Bucharest News from the EAL Department!!! Parent Open Day! As an EAL teacher I thought it would be a great idea to have a parent open day. I wanted the parents to come to our English lesson, to see how a real lesson goes, how the children are taught and how much fun we have... And a good idea that was! Instead of one open day, I had two! At the first parents from year 3 were invited and at the second one year 4 parents came. Mums, dads and grandmas were very curious and extremely excited to see their own children "in action" and the children were so eager and proud to show them everything they have learnt! It was a wonderful day! All the parents told me what a great experience the open day was for them and how interesting it was to see their children from a totally different perspective. And....as far as I am concerned....I have a message to send: "GOOD JOB, MY LITTLE SQUIRRELS! I AM PROUD OF YOU!" Mariana Dumitru EAL Co‐ordinator

The Guardians of Our Library For the love and respect they constantly show to books, 5 student librarians have been selected from years 5 and 6. The little big hearted helpers are trained in various library skills which include using the special library computer programme, returning the reading scheme fiction and non‐fiction books, re‐shelving of returned books in the Primary and Secondary sections and how to aid pupils during lunchtime and the Guided Reading hour. Maria, Clod, Esther, Bayezit, and Lorand are doing a great job!

Welcome to Da Vinci’s World! Year 3 and some lucky, gifted and talented children with Mrs Carey went to see some amazing inventions by Leonardo Da Vinci. These were recreations of his ideas with the children free to touch and look at 50 different models. The children learnt about how advanced he was for his day. The English speaking guide provided the children with lots of useful facts. The children then decided it would be great to buy the DVD of the exhibition, so that other classes could perhaps see it during a Design and Technology Lesson. The guide commented on the children's excellent behaviour during the tour so well done Year 3 and their guests.

“ Year 3 and some lucky, gifted and talented children with Mrs Carey went to see the amazing inventions by Leonardo Da Vinci...”

The International School of Bucharest Mission Completed! Space Camp Turkey is one of the three youth space camps in the world. The other two are in the U.S. and Canada. We went on a fantastic space mission with 13 students from primary and secondary school between the 5th and 9th February. Children enjoyed learning about space shuttles, how astronauts are trained, space history, technology and the development of space programmes.

Here is Kate’s (year9) report of her outer space adventure: Overall, I thought that space camp was really fun! We were kept busy every day and had a lot of creative activities. I really liked that we were able to connect with kids from other countries. There was a big group of students from an International School from Saudi Arabia, so I definitely have friends from around the world now!
