Nursery Newsletter – Friday 7th February
What we learned about this week This week we learnt the fairytale, ‘The Gingerbread Man.’ While reading the story we repeated altogether: “Run, run, as fast as you can. You can't catch me, I'm the Gingerbread Man The children learnt about the different characters and could talk about which one was their favourite and why. We followed instructions to draw the features on a gingerbread man template and sequenced the story. We like to role play that a fox is coming and pretend to run away from him. In Nursery Cooking Time we made a gingerbread man and decorated him with chocolate chips. We couldn’t wait to eat him and hoped that he wouldn’t run away when we opened the oven. If you would like to watch the story at home you can use this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNDf-Xtrc30. If you would like to bake a gingerbread man then you can use this recipe: http://www.cookuk.co.uk/children/ginger_bread_men.htm In Mathematics we played some number games on Education City. We had to count some items and then find the matching numeral. We are getting very good at counting and recognizing numerals, although the bigger numbers (8,9 & 10) can be tricky for us. We then counted out 10 oranges and stuck them on a triangle shape. Teo and Muhamed tried really hard to write all the numbers on their oranges. Teo did it so well that he then wrote them all for Abi. In the afternoon session the children who don’t need to sleep, learnt the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood.’ Again, we chose our favourite characters and drew pictures of them. We made a craft of Grandma’s basket and sequenced the story. If you would like to watch the story at home then you can use this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0W86K1jBJFI In PSHE we talked about growing up. There are many things we will be able to do when we grow up such as drive a car (Abi), go to the mall (Havin), do the shopping (Ela), be a Daddy (Teo) and be a Mummy (Carla). We drew some pictures of when we were a baby and talked about what babies can do. We would love you to send us some photos. We need 3 photos – your child as a baby, you and your child together and your child now. We will use them in our lessons and then we are going to make a lovely surprise for Mother’s Day. Please email me the photos to: sarah.foster@isb.ro. Thank you! What we plan for next week Next week, we will learn the fairytale ‘Goldilocks and the Three Bears.’ We will learn about size language, big, middle-sized and small and sort items into these groups. We will act out the story in our role play area where we will have small, middle-sized and big items such as chairs, beds and bowls. In Nursery Cooking Time we will make porridge and hopefully it won’t be too hot or too cold. It will be just right and we will eat it all up!
It is also ‘Anti-bullying & Inclusion Week’ at ISB. In the Nursery classes we will talk about being a good friend and nice things to play with our friends. On Friday we will have some visitor from the School of the Blind to talk to us about their disability and show us how they learned to read.
MAKER BAKER Each week a child will be chosen to be the “Maker Baker.” The role of the Maker Baker is to bake something at home with you to bring to school on Friday for snack. (The snack should be for 13 children and should not have nuts in it). Thank you! Baking together is a fantastic opportunity for parents and children to spend special time together as well as building language while talking about ingredients and quantities and procedure. The Maker Baker will also have special jobs to do during the week such as line leader and teacher helper.
The Maker Baker for next week is: Arvin Shams
How you can help your child Physical Development
Encourage your child to handle small and large equipment. Allow your child to use scissors and develop their skills. Encourage free drawing and painting. Encourage and assist your child to write his/her name (in lowercase letters). Make and play with play dough. Use rollers and cutters to make shapes. Buy tongs, tweezers, syringes and eye droppers. All these things help strengthen the small muscles needed for drawing and writing. Allow your child to run, hop, skip, jump and find different ways of travelling. Play games such as follow the leader and change actions to develop motor skills and coordination. Discuss changes to their bodies after exercise; heart beating faster, feeling hot etc. Encourage your child to dress him/herself and attempt zippers and buttons. Help your child learn to toilet & wash hands independently.

Notices: Welcome to Hasan Cem and family. Hasan has joined the Busy Bees class. Congratulations to Miss Amalia and her husband who are expecting a baby in August. We are all very excited for you!! Congratulations to Miss Hannah who became engaged over the holidays. This is a very exciting time for you and your fiancĂŠ. We are all very sad to hear that Pipera Campus will be closing in June. We have all enjoyed working here very much. If you have any questions or concerns about the announcement please make an appointment to speak to Mr Faruk. If you are considering choosing another school in the area then you might need to make your decision quite quickly. Places fill up quickly in this area. We would like to apologise for the inconvenience caused and wish you all the best in making your decision for a new school for your child. If your child is absent for 3 or more consecutive days we ask that you bring in a 'Adeverinta Medicala' or 'Aviz Epidemiologic' from your child's doctor to prove that your child is well enough to return to school. Some parents are complaining that sick children are in school and passing their germs around. Please keep your child home to rest if he/she is unwell. Thank you! Could you please send 2 photos of your child for next week please? We need one as a baby and a recent photo. Thank you!
PE lessons are on Mondays. Please wear the PE uniform and trainers on this day. This week our Star of the Week is: Muhamed Karimov. Muhamed has been working hard to learn English and is now able to recognise numbers, count and say the colours. Well done!
