Nursery Newsletter – Friday, 14th March
What we learned about this week Preschoolers love activties that include playing with all types of transportation items including cars, trucks, airplanes and more. This topic is part of their everyday lives. They drive or walk to school, have seen or ridden on a bus or taken an airplane to go on vacation. This week we have started introducing the topic of transport. During Circle Time we have talked about how do we get to school, how does Daddy go to work and how do we go on holidays. We have made a poster of cutting transport images out from magazines. The children had to look for transport images from a variety of other
things. In Personal Social Emotional Development the children understood the importance of crossing the street holding hands with an adult. They have made a traffic light showing their understanding of each colour. In Art and craft, they have made the sky using blue paint bubbles and they have stuck a coloured airplane. In Cooking, they have made cars using biscuits and M&Ms for the wheels.
What we plan for next week Next week, we are going to continue the topic with a variety of activities based on transportation. They are going to learn new English words with the help of our interactive games and activities. We are going to watch a couple of videos. One of them is called – I SPY http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cSw50Jw0H34 The children will have to recognise each transport from the movie. In Music and Movement, they are going to move according to each transport from the song: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B1yNgKeYM3k&list=PLTV1MuaDpTEma3yYdxpBLKSEx C_roku-3. They are going on a walk around the school to listen to a variety of sounds. For this activity they will need big elephants ears that they will have to make before the tour. They will learn the song: “Stop! Look! Listen!” - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1f9NACD0l8 We are going to play a game called “Freezing Game” when we will talk with the children about traffic lights (red means stop, green means go, yellow means to go really slow..ready to stop). The teacher will tell the children they will be dancing to the music but need to watch the teacher as she is the traffic light. When the teacher puts up the Green paper, they should dance, when she puts up the Red paper, they should Stop (Freeze). They will use playdough to complete the transport playdough mats, making the passangers or the wheels. We will also talk about safety near the road and the importance of holding an adult’s hands. In Cooking they will make traffic light cookie using three M&Ms. In Numeracy, they will sort the transport in three categories (land, sky and sea) placing each of the flashcards in their correct column.
How you can help your child Please rehearse with your child the song “Stop! Look! Listen!” http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l1f9NACD0l8
