Reception Newsletter - Friday 21st February What we learned about this week

In Communication and Language we focused on Our Town. We talked about the different types of buildings and their uses and made a town from recycled boxes and card. We looked at pictures of buildings in Bucharest and at a large map. In Maths we talked about directions and co-ordinates and used ourselves and Beebots to move to different locations on a map. We also talked about grid maps and placed buildings in different squares or found the location of buildings on the grid. In phonics we revised all the sounds we have covered this year and blended and segmented words. We found missing sounds in words. We also practised reading tricky words by playing some fun games and reading some funny questions using tricky and cvc words, where we had to answer ‘yes’ or ‘no’.

What we plan for next week In Communication and Language we will focus on Spring and talk about the changes in weather and seasons. We will make crafts for Martisor, Spring and Mother’s Day. We will also be practising our songs for the show. In Maths we will learn vocabulary of addition and begin to use number sentences. In phonics we will be learning: w, oa and ay

The Mother's Day Breakfast will be held on Friday 7th March. All mothers are invited to spend the morning with us. We will have tea and coffee in the staffroom at 8:30am. From 9-10am you will visit your child's class for some songs and to do an activity together. Snow Days - The schools will be open on Saturday 22nd March and Saturday 5th April to make up for the days lost when we had snow storms. Please let your child's teacher know if you intend to bring your child on these days. If only half the students are coming then we may not need all teachers present on both days. Thank you! If your child is in Reception or Year 1 we ask that you let them walk up to the classroom on their own in the morning. The lessons start promptly at 8:45 and prior to this teachers are preparing their classrooms. If you have an important message for the teacher you may go up but otherwise help your child to develop their independence by sending them up alone. Thank you!
