Year 3 Parents Information Evening Tuesday 9th September 2014


Year 3 Teaching Staff Mr Peall (Year leader) Miss Guzel Miss Adriana Mr John Miss Iulia and Miss Madalina are our Teaching Assistants


Curriculum We follow the Cambridge Primary Curriculum for English, Maths and Science. •

English - 1 lesson each day, plus Phonics and Guided Reading. Develops all forms of communication in English. Speaking and listening, reading and writing. â—?

Maths - 1 lesson each day, plus 1 weekly Problem Solving lesson. Focuses on number, geometry, measure, handling data and problem solving.


•Humanities is History, Geography and Art. These are taught through a common theme, which changes every half term. There are three humanities lessons weekly.

Science – Giving students the understanding of how and why things work. This curriculum framework covers four

content areas: scientific enquiry, biology, chemistry and physics. There are 2 science lessons weekly.


Daily Routine It is important that all children arrive at school in time to line up outside the main building for 8:25am. • • • • • • • •

Homework •

Each child has a Reading Record. Parents should sign it each time they hear their child read or discuss a book.

Children in Year 3 should spend between 30-45 minutes on homework each night.

This includes reading everyday, spellings and mental maths.

Bugclub and Educationcity


Assemblies and productions Assemblies Monday - Whole School Assembly Wednesday - Key Stage 2 Assembly Years 3,4,5 & 6 During your child’s class assembly, parents are invited to come along to watch their child perform. Year 3 Production This will take place at the end of March, with the classes split for the two performances.


Year 3 Residential Trip – Bran The trip is for one night where students have practical learning, fun and gaining independence. This year the trip is in late May or early June.

All KS2 students will go on an educational trip each half term.


Equipment and Uniform •

It is important that all children wear the correct school uniform.

Black school shoes are part of the uniform!


Uniform

On PE days, children will be expected to come to school wearing their uniform and change into a proper ISB PE kit before the lesson. •Sports shoes for PE. •Girls should not wear jewellery. Only watches and stud earrings are allowed. •

Clubs •

After – school activities greatly enhance the curriculum. There are a wide variety to choose from including… Academic clubs, Sports, Music, Languages, Computers, Cooking, and much more.

Communication with Parents Regular communication is via Educare. The messages will be sent after school. Newsletters are sent home periodically, providing a summary of past activities and upcoming events. If a parent wishes to see a teacher with an immediate concern, they may visit informally before or after school. For more formal discussions, parents should make an appointment to see the teacher.This should be arranged through the school receptionist or with the teacher.


Pupil Lateness

The bell rings at 8:25am. If a student is late, they should go to the front desk, take a lateness slip and then go to their classroom. If a child will not attend school please inform the teacher. You can send an email to the teacher or call the receptionist. Also inform the teacher if your child is unwell and stays home. For more than 2 days of absence you need to bring a medical note from your doctor.
