Welcome to Year 1


What does your child need to bring to school?

• A back pack (large enough to hold A4 folders and books.) • A named water bottle. • Spare clothes.


Please don’t bring to school • Toys (unless specifically asked for.) • Pencil cases.


Lunch Boxes and Snack If your child has a packed lunch please make sure they have a clearly labelled lunch box.

The school provides a morning snack. Children can bring their own healthy snack from home. Please no chocolate or fizzy drinks.

Homework English and maths homework will be sent home once a week. Homework tasks should take no longer than 20 minutes. Reading Books will also be sent home regularly. Please try to read for around 15 minutes every night with your child.


Reading Books and Bug Club Please try to read for around 15 minutes each night with your child.

Reading books will be sent home regularly for your child to read at home. This year all children will have access to Bug Club, an online reading resource.


Reading Record This year we will be using new reading records. This is a chance for you to record the progress your child is making with their reading and see comments from teachers who have heard them read.


Education City

Education City homework is a learning tool used in the classroom for English, maths and science. We will set weekly homework on Education City.


Assembly

We have weekly whole school and KS1 assemblies. During this time children are awarded ‘Star of the Week’. Each class will hold their own assembly which you will be invited to attend.
