Gerald Moroder: Atmosfera Solo Exhibition at iSculpture Contemporary Gallery - 2021

The artistic production in Gerald Moroder is a slow and meticulous process of inner investigation. His technique is primordial. His colors are not pigments, but the very force of nature: the porphyry, first love and material of choice, then the terracotta bricks, and even the Terra di Siena, his latest discovery and yet in the phase of falling in love, up to asphalt. Gerald always amazes us, every meeting in his atelier is an exciting journey into his inner world. He is able to innovate his art, both from an aesthetic and formal point of view, while maintaining its peculiarities. He is linked in a pure and intrinsic way to the culture of the “Botteghe” (workshops), in the fourteenth-century meaning of the term and still alive in the Val Gardena ateliers. Gerald is the contemporary “Apothecary”: he researches the materials, investigates their characteristics, reduces them to powder and mixes them until he obtains his formula. And like the painters of the 14th century, Gerald has returned to “paint” on large formats, which allow him to work slowly and intimately. His investigation is aimed at the surrounding environment, at all the noise of the world that hits us. But only Gerald could transform this chaos into pure and rarefied atmospheres, where his primordial man managed to rise and look beyond. A human being present only on the top of the totem-columns, has reached the peaks of the Dolomites and now looks into the distance, in search of new horizons. Each panel is an inner journey, it is a spiritual and pure cocoon. His columns are an invitation to go further, to investigate the surrounding world with detachment and rarefaction as from the heights of its mountains. In these new works, the informal search for shades and colors takes precedence over the investigation within the human figure which in its very absence becomes essence.
