Polished and Precise: The Tools, Materials & Trends Defining Surface Fabrication
As the demand for high-quality surfacing materials continues to grow, so does the complexity of the industry that supports their design, fabrication and installation. Today, consumers, designers and architects seek more than just beautiful countertops and architectural surfaces; they are prioritizing performance, sustainability and the integration of advanced technology into the fabrication process. This Buyers’ Guide is designed to serve as a comprehensive resource for exploring the latest in surfacing materials, from solid surface to quartz and porcelain, as well as the innovative tooling, software and other products that keep the surface fabrication industry on the cutting edge.
The market for surfacing materials is experiencing unprecedented innovation, with new products entering the market and traditional materials evolving to meet shifting consumer needs. Consumers today are focused on materials that offer long-lasting performance with minimal upkeep. Quartz continues to dominate the residential market for its durability, nonporous nature, and resistance to stains and scratches. And as respirable crystalline silica continue to challenge the health and safety of our fabricators, we applaud those manufacturers who are developing solutions that minimize risk.
Meanwhile, porcelain and sintered surfaces have surged in popularity, particularly in Europe, making significant inroads in North America. Porcelain’s ability to mimic the look of natural stone or concrete without maintenance issues has made it a favorite in interior and exterior applications. It is also highly resistant to heat, UV rays and heavy usage, making it ideal for kitchen countertops, bathroom vanities and outdoor living spaces.
As sustainability moves to the forefront of the global conversation, eco-friendly surfacing materials are gaining market share. Consumers and specifiers are increasingly aware of the environmental impact of their choices. Manufacturers have responded by offering surfaces made from recycled materials and developing low-impact production processes. Quartz, solid surface and other manufacturers are adopting sustainable practices by using post-industrial recycled content and implementing energy-efficient manufacturing processes.
As the material side of the industry advances, so too does the machinery and technology that support surface fabrication. Fabricators are embracing a wide array of tools and software that are revolutionizing production processes, increasing efficiency, improving safety and ensuring highquality results.
Despite the exciting trends and advancements, the surface fabrication industry faces its share of challenges. Rising material costs, supply chain disruptions, and a shortage of skilled labor are all factors that continue to impact businesses. However, with challenges come opportunities. The industry is at an exciting juncture, with advances in materials, technology and sustainability driving its continued growth.
As you explore this Buyers’ Guide, you’ll find a wealth of information on the latest products and tools that are shaping the future of surface fabrication. Whether you’re a seasoned fabricator looking to expand your offerings or a designer in search of the perfect material for your next project, this guide is here to support your success in an evolving industry. We hope you find the insights and resources in this guide invaluable as you navigate the latest trends and innovations.

Sink Shaping Bits from RouterBitsNow
Intermac’s Smart 625 CNC Bridge Saw
RouterBitsNow.com’s mission statement is simple: to make the fabricator’s job easier. They offer three different bit drafts for sink finish shaping. For best results, select the correct bit angle, or draft, for whichever sink you are choosing to finish route. Most sinks can be finish routed with the 10-degree or 15-degree bits. There are a few sinks where the 20-degree bit will work best. Determine this by taking the draft of the sink and adding 5 degrees. For example, if a sink is 5 degrees, then the 10-degree bit will work best. If a sink is 13 degrees, then the next best bit would be a 20-degree bit. If you had only a 15-degree bit, then the reduced bearing (.975 inch) would be a trick in a pinch. All bits come standard with a Delrin soft angle matched .995-inch bearing and will save time and money. Visit www.routerbitsnow. com for a full list of products and additional information.

Trinity by Breton
Breton Trinity operates with a unique combination of three tools simultaneously, boosting productivity to new heights. Trinity’s strength is that it allows simultaneous saw and double waterjet cutting or waterjet-only cutting without the need to move the slab and, depending on the operation it has to perform, it chooses the best technology in terms of efficiency. Therefore, when possible, Trinity will opt for the more economical saw/waterjet cutting, while switching to pure waterjet technology in all other cases. This will minimize waste and get the job done in less time, and consequently, at the lowest cost. Trinity was designed to meet two main needs:
• Operating with the slabs placed directly on the metal grid, without interposing the sacrificial support, thus avoiding the costs and downtime associated with periodic replacement of the support.
• Cutting sintered, porcelain and ultra-compact slabs, as well as other stone materials, with high feed rates and low operating costs while avoiding chipping and cracking.
Trinity increases production capacity by almost three times compared to waterjet and reduces slab breakage to almost zero, benefiting both the processor and the raw material producer. Learn more at www.bretonusa.com
Veloce Blade by Lapitec
The Veloce blade was engineered specifically to cut Lapitec sintered stone. It uses diamond technology and industry-specific knowledge to decrease cutting times by up to 75% based on slab thickness. Lapitec is the pioneer of sintered stone, formed without resins or crystalline silica, making it a sustainable and healthy choice for any surfacing application. Unmatched in the industry, the Veloce blade takes Lapitec to the next level by increasing stone fabricators’ throughput and efficiency with up to 4 times faster cutting. The Veloce blade is offered in 14-inch and 16-inch sizes and fits most standard stone fabrication saws. For more information about Lapitec or the Veloce blade, visit www.lapitec.com.
