EXERCISE 1.

EXERCISE 1:

1.0

BODY TYPES

1.1

List the top 5 types of body shapes according to you.

1.2

List the 5 most important attributes you would consider while picking out a shirt for the different types of body shapes.

1.3

For a woman with a triangle body shape, write down a rule for each of the attributes you have listed ie 5 rules.

1.4

Write the reason for each of the 5 rules and add visuals to support them.

1.1 THE FIVE BEST BODY SHAPES ARE:

1.

Hourglass: hips and bust lines are balanced and body is in proportion throughout.

2.

Rectangle/ Square: same measurements for all sections of the body. Straight shoulders and flat hips.

3.

Figure 8/ Pear: hips are bigger than the bust. Broad hips and perfectly defined waist, curvy body.

4.

Triangle: hips are bigger than the rest of the body. Thighs and upper arms are bigger and lower legs and lower arms are best assets of this body type.

5.

Inverted triangle: proportionally upper body is bigger than the lower body. Broad shoulders, small hips, and slender legs.

1.2 THINGS TO REMEBER WHILE PICKING A SHIRT FOR THESE BODY SHAPES ARE:

1.

Hourglass: fitted or tailored shirts with darted waists or which sits at the waist giving structure to this body type and accentuating the natural curves. V necklines shirts which allows to show off the right amount of curves. 3/4 sleeves, brings balance to the look.

2.

Rectangle/ Square: shirts with fitted waist and embellishments around the bust and shoulders. Full or flowing silhouettes around the bust and belted waists, structured shoulders, wide necklines, princess or flutter sleeves will lengthen the shoulders and create and illusion of a smaller waist making the body look curvaceous.

3.

Figure 8/ Pear: shirts with fitted waits and embellishment around the bust and shoulders add volume to the upper part of the body with the lower part. Wrap shirts that emphasise the small waist with full or structured shoulders, wide necklines and princess or flutter sleeves to draw attention to the upper half of the body.

4. Triangle: Shirts with embellishments or patterns that add volume to your bust line and empire waists that balances the lower half while accentuating defined waist and camouflaging any bulges. 5.

Inverted Triangle: tailored shirts with deep scoop or V-necks and with vertical details which narrows the upper body. Peplums, wraps and checks and stripes in slanting angle that will accentuate the waist and help balance the bust with the hips.

1.3 FIVE RULES FOR STYLING A TRIANGLE SHAPED WOMEN’S BODY

1.

COLOUR: Do wear light coloured tops and dark coloured bottoms.

2.

FITTING: Do not wear tight fitted or tapered towards the toe bottom; as well as narrow tops. Wear A lines skirts, boot cut, flared tops, dresses and mid rise jeans or trousers.

3.

LENGTH: avoid extremely short length skirts and shorts for the bottoms, It can be compensated with the length of the sleeves.

4.

PRINTS and PATTERNS: Vertical stripes yes for the bottom and horizontal stripes no for the bottom. While, opposite for the upper body; ie: Horizontal stripes yes for the top and vertical stripes no for the top. Also bigger prints for the bottoms are a big no.

5.

OTHER: Necklines, design details and embellishments that accentuates the shoulders and the bust. Footwear: Do wear peep- toes, flats, and ballerina shoes pointy- toed shoes to elongate your legs and avoid rounded toes shoes, strappy sandals, and kitten heels. Accessories: that draws attention to the upper part of the body like chunky earrings, heavy neckpieces in attractive colours and bold forms.

GOAL: To emphasize the waist and arms, add volume to the shoulders and upper body.

AIM: Create balance by adding volume at the top to compensate the heavy bottom.

BEST ASSETS: arms, shoulders and torso.

The black triangle symbolises the natural body form. Whereas, The red triangle symbolises the area where attention is required.

PROBLEM: lower body is wider than the upper body.

1.4 REASONS TO SUPPORT EACH RULE WITH VISUALS

1.

COLOUR: lighter colour on the top and darker in the bottom creates an illusion of balance between the lower body and upper body, by making the lower body look thinner.

Wear lighter coloured tops.

Wear dark coloured bottoms.

2.

FITTING: It will draw attention to the upper part of the body, therefore the bust and the shoulders have to be enhanced in order to make it proportional with the lower body.

Try fits that draws attention to the upper part of the body.

Do not go for tight fitted bottoms and narrow tops.

3.

LENGHT: long or mid length sleeves and skirts will accentuate the arms and lower legs.

Avoid short lengths dresses and skirts.

Do not wear long lengthed tops that cover the bottoms and draws attention to the bottom or short lengthed tops that highlight the bottom.

4.

PRINTS and PATTERNS: the above mentioned prints and patterns will redirect the visual attention away from the hips towards the upper body, to create balance.

Try prints that compliments the body shape.

Vertical stripes for bottom and horizontal stripes for the top to draw attention to the right areas.

5.

OTHER mentioned necklines, embellishments, accessories and foot wear will divert attention from the hips to the other parts of the body like neck, bust, shoulders, face, feet etc.

Wear complementing necklines.

Embelished upper wear to draw attention to the right area.

Try heavy neckpieces in attractive colours and bold forms.

Try chunky earrings, bright coloured accessories.

Length and the structure of the sleeves can bring attention to the upper body too and bri ng balance by compensating the lower body’s volume.

Do wear peep- toes, flats, and ballerina shoes pointy- toed shoes and heels to elongate your legs. Avoid embelishments on the bottom wear.

Accessories that cuts the body and creates balance.

HOW TO DIVERT THE VISUAL ATTENTION IN THE RIGHT AREA.
