The annual BookFest, sponsored by the Friends of the Bennington Free Library, will take place Friday evening and all day Saturday, May 1 and 2, at the First Baptist Church on Main Street in Bennington, Vermont. Hundreds of volunteer hours have been spent sorting more than 15,000 donated books. More than 70 pre-sorted categories will make favorites easy to find. Choose from fiction, suspense and thrillers, sci-fi and fantasy, romance, historical romance, gardening, child care, self-help, spirituality, children’s and young adult, history, New England and local interest, biographies and memoirs and many more. Also available will be games, puzzles, audiobooks, CDs, videotapes and DVDs. Friday, from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., is the dealers’ preview and silent auction. The entrance fee is $10. The public is welcome at this time, too, to browse and buy. Saturday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., is free and open to all. During the day there will be activities for children. The proceeds from the BookFest support programs and services at the Bennington Free Library. In the past, monies have bought computer terminals, chairs and tables, supported programs in the Children’s Library and paid for other essentials for the Library.
