“THE TOKYO SHIMBUN” NEWSPAPER The advertising firm Dentsu, Tokyo Shimbun launched an augmented‐reality reading application called Tokyo AR in Oct 2012 that translates the newspaper into kid‐friendly content. When app users hold their smartphone over the newspaper pages, the articles become animated with cartoon characters, pop‐up headlines, and commentaries. The free app was developed by AR platform Aurasma.

“NEW HORIZONTS” TEXTBOOK The publisher Tokyo Shoseki has added little conversation vignette videos to a book that teaches English as a foreign language. These are books for an adult student who wants to learn or relearn a foreign language. The AR comes in because you need to point a camera equipped iPhone at the requisite page in the textbook in order for each video to pop up.

“5 POWERS” COMIC BOOK The "augmented reality" Graphic Novel will reveal the the true and interconnected stories of Thich Nhat Hanh, Alfred Hassler, Sister Chan Khong and Dr. Martin Luther King Jr, in much greater depth. Parallax Press, the book company that publishes the majority of Thich Nhat Hanh books, has asked us to produce a 128‐page The Secret of the 5 Powers Graphic Novel based around our film and comic book.

LEGO CONNECT ‐ VUFORIA Matt Kammerait, product manager for interactive print solutions at Quad/Graphics, led development of LEGO Connect app to deliver on LEGO's vision of the "integrated omni‐channel". This app is powered by the Vuforia™ software platform for computer vision‐based image recognition. As consumers peruse the print catalog, wherever they see the LEGO Connect icon, they can point their device at the printed page to get related content for the LEGO set displayed, including product information, 3D assembled model, reviews, and a link to purchase it.

Guinness World Records 2014 ‐ appshacker Appshaker designed a markerless augmented reality application on iOS and Android that allowed users to get up close and personal with some of the record breakers. There are 13 animations to discover in the 2014 edition, including in 3D and 2D. Plus, record holder videos will give you a personal photo opportunity with the world’s smallest woman and even a special tour from the very top of Mount Everest.
