WHO WE ARE Islamic Relief works in over 40 countries worldwide, providing lifesaving humanitarian aid to those in need, and fighting poverty through sustainable development projects. Inspired by faith, we serve everyone in need regardless of gender, race or religion.
Thank you for your continued generosity and care.
We help impoverished communities access basic services, including education, water, sanitation, and healthcare. Through livelihood projects, skills development and mentorship, we help communities break the cycle of poverty. Our integrated approach to progress helps transform lives worldwide.

This impact report features a collection of all the projects we initiated this year, which continue to complement our previous and ongoing work from past years. Because of you, we have reached over 1.2 million people in 2019, and implemented more than 40 new projects to help bring relief and break the cycle of poverty. Providing life-saving food packs to families in the Herat province who were affected by flash flooding, which greatly impacted their homes and agriculture. This assistance was done to complement other forms of emergency aid they were receiving.
Rehabilitating strategic water points and providing cash support for drought stricken pastoral families in northeastern Kenya where no other NGOs are present, to help meet their basic needs in a dignified way.
Providing emergency relief through food distribution, living essentials, and nutritional support. Assisting the community with future preparedness and resilience since the volcano is still active.

Emergency Response In Montreal and Quebec City, delivering non-perishable food items and hygiene products to those affected by the floods, as well as filling sandbags and assisting with clean up. In Toronto, providing funds to displaced residents of the St. James Town fire, to support their ability to return to their homes. BENEFICIARIES

Empowering Indigenous Communities
Preventing Gender Based Violence
Empowering Indigenous girls through mentorship and the arts, to enhance their leadership skills and share their professional aspirations and visions for their future. Continuing mentorship programs for young Indigenous mothers to provide maternal health support, as well as inspire them to continue their education and help lower suicide rates. Establishing a safe and accessible diabetes support group for Indigenous individuals, facilitated by an Indigenous elder and registered mental health provider.
Providing support across Canada to help prevent and respond to violence against women and children, engaging and rehabilitating the behaviour of abusive fathers through culturallysensitive programs and specialized support. Mentoring Vulnerable Youth
Climate
Responding to the needs of refugee families and those at a higher risk of violence by providing them with culturally sensitive mental health and social services, as well as increasing the rate of accessibility of those services to other families. Providing language training, e-learning resources and social integration support through dedicated organizations.
Providing mentorship, guidance and support to marginalized and highrisk youth through direct mentorship, athletic sports, personal development, and community involvement. Helping reduce incarceration and recidivism through leadership programs. Raising awareness on racism and Islamophobia through a series of assemblies in order to engage, enable and empower students while enhancing mental health and wellbeing.
Planting over 100 trees in the Wood Buffalo Region with the help of Islamic Relief volunteers to help protect and restore the environment after the Fort McMurray wildfires.

Supporting local food banks and providing nutritious and culturally sensitive food to low income families throughout the years through dedicated organizations. Assisting with hosting iftars and providing hot meals to the homeless, distributing food baskets during Ramadan, and distributing Qurbani/Udhiya shares for Eid Al-Adha to families in need.
In partnership with SickKids, supporting the training of five specialty paediatric fellows to build a healthier future for Palestinian children; supporting the Ibn Sina Scholar in Global Child Health at SickKids to facilitate expert studies and improved policies that impact disadvantaged children and families around the world; organizing a toy and book drive for SickKids Hospital to help replenish gifts for children who have undergone difficult procedures. Facilitating the Keys to Health Fellowship, a doctor-led initiative that will train eight Palestinian medical fellows at a Canadian university so that they can provide specialized and enhanced medical care once they return.

Installing hand pumps and upgrading three systems to solar power to increase access to safe water and reduce illnesses, while also training the community in health, hygiene and improved water usage.

Qurbani & Udhiya Sharing the joy of Eid Al-Adha with families in need
Qurbani & Udhiya is among the first programs started by Islamic Relief in 1986, and recurs every year when Muslims around the world commemorate Eid Al-Adha and sacrifice livestock to feed the needy. The meat is distributed fresh, chilled or frozen, according to what is appropriate for the dietary culture of the region.
