YOUR DONATIONS IN ACTION LIFE-SAVING MEDICAL AID FOR THE PEOPLE OF SYRIA

"Know that Allah (swt) hears them [the people of Syria] and may Allah (swt) allow us to hear them as well." - Shaykh Omar Suleiman

THE SITUATION There are more than 2.7 million people in need, with over 1.8 million internally displaced people North-western Syria has been marked by ongoing conflict that has led to overwhelming civilian casualties, damage and destruction of civilian infrastructure including attacks on humanitarian groups and personnel. Waves of mass displacement continue to have a devastating impact on the region. There are more than 2.7 million people in need, with over 1.8 million internally displaced people, many of whom have been displaced multiple times and are particularly vulnerable due to ongoing and direct exposure to violence. Provision of health services continue to be disrupted by the ongoing conflict. Attacks on healthcare facilities have rendered 46% of hospitals and primary health facilities in Syria as either partially functional or not functional. Displaced populations and returnees, particularly those in the northeast and northwest Syria, are vulnerable to outbreaks of infectious diseases due to unsanitary living conditions and overstretched health services. Estimates are that 2.9 million people inside Syria are living with a permanent disability that will require long-term physical rehabilitation care.

There is a significant need for trauma and burn treatments, as well as rehabilitative support for those that have been exposed to intense hostilities in the region. Priority health concerns in northwest Syria include: Wounds and injuries as a direct result of hostilities Risk of disease outbreaks due to unsafe water, poor sanitation and hygiene practices, overcrowding, and poor vaccination coverage Lack of access to health services due to a shortage of functioning facilities, health staff, and medical supplies These concerns also include a severe gap in: Specialized treatment of wounds Emergency obstetric care and other surgeries Insufficient capacity for mobile clinics to reach temporary settlements and some host communities Disruption in the medicine supply chain, including for treatment of trauma, obstetric care for infectious disease, chronic conditions, and reproductive health (especially complications of pregnancy, safe delivery and acute new-born care) Sexual and gender-based violence

Syria at a glance: According to the UN Envoy for Syria, 400,000 Syrians were killed in the first 5 years of the conflict As of March 2019, roughly 5.7 million Syrians have fled the country, according to the UN High Commissioner for Refugees More than 6.1 million people are displaced internally

SATEE'S STORY Satee and his brother, Yazan, were playing in the balcony of their home in Idlib when their home was struck by a Russian warplane. Satee suffered from head trauma and his body was lodged with shrapnel. His brother Yazan was killed in the airstrike.

After a clinical examination, it was found that there was a left hemiplegia with severe atrophy in four of his limbs, he suffered from verbal aphasia, and was unable to move independently. An intensive treatment plan was developed to help Satee recover from his trauma.

Satee was transported to Turkey where he underwent several surgeries and stayed in intensive care for 3 months.

After a month of intense treatment, Satee has begun to move his left upper limb and has the ability to balance on his own while sitting.

Upon the completion of his treatment in Turkey, he was accepted as a patient in the Sarmada Rehabilitation Centre where he was admitted for physiotherapy.

The treatment is still ongoing and we will continue supporting Satee's recovery until he can stand and walk on his own two feet again.

We pray that Allah (swt) gives Satee a full recovery and brings peace to the people of Syria. Your generosity has enabled us to save precious lives like Satee's in Syria.
