Our Mission
Islamic Relief envisages a caring world where communities are empowered, social obligations are fulfilled and people respond as one to the suffering of others.
Islamic Relief works with communities to strengthen their resilience to calamities, and we provide vital emergency aid when disasters occur. We help the impoverished access basic services, including education, water and sanitation, as well as healthcare. We provide lasting routes out of poverty through our sustainable development schemes. Our integrated approach to progress is transforming communities worldwide. We tackle the root causes of poverty and make sure that the world’s most vulnerable people have real influence in both our programs and advocacy.
Regional Volunteer Teams Islamic Relief Canada is launching its regional volunteer teams across Canada! We’re looking for passionate & excited volunteers who care about the world to join us in our fight against poverty and alleviating the suffering of millions worldwide. Volunteer teams will be the ambassadors for Islamic Relief Canada in their cities and can hold events to raise awareness, funds, and even answer the community’s questions on humanitarian efforts.
Getting Started! Who are we looking for? We’re looking for individuals who are passionate, driven, self-motivating, thrive in group work, want to save the world, and involved in their communities. Each regional volunteer team will be composed of a minimum of 3 members consisting of a Team Lead, Treasurer, and Secretary. For more specific qualifications, please refer to the Roles, Responsibilities, & Qualifications section.

Supervision & Supp ort Orientation & Training | All regional volunteer teams will receive proper orientation and training on Islamic Relief Canada. The orientation will cover history, vision, mission, international programs, domestic programs, overview of different departments, how fundraising works, type of events, all promotional material, financial policies and controls, etc. Primary Contact | The primary contact for all regional teams will be the National Volunteer Coordinator from head office. This individual will be the main go-to person for all questions, concerns, feedback, ideas, etc. He or she will be the liaison between Islamic Relief Canada’s head office and the regional teams. Feedback & Communication | All volunteers are encouraged to share their feedback post-events or post-campaigns to keep track of what went well and how can we improve for next time. Regional teams especially are requested to share their feedback on events, speakers, logistics, communication, etc. to actively work towards a stronger and more cohesive team environment. Volunteer Recognition | Islamic Relief Canada will strive to formally recognize the contributions of all its volunteers. Team members are encouraged to recognize, appreciate, and commend the outstanding work of their peers amongst the team and also to the volunteer coordinator.

Volunteer Policies The following list and summary of policies introduces you to the Islamic Relief Canada policies that apply to you as a volunteer. This list provides overall guidance and direction to those who volunteer with IRC. As necessary, your supervising staff member or the Volunteer Coordinator may share additional policies that apply to your specific volunteer assignment. You are expected to comply with all applicable policies at all times. Islamic Relief Canada reserves the exclusive right to modify these policies at any time, and to expect adherence to the modifications. If you have any concerns about the policies and procedures and your ability to follow them, please immediately discuss them with the Volunteer Coordinator. Islamic Relief Canada may at any time, for whatever reason, decide to terminate the volunteer’s relationship with IRC or to make changes in the nature of their volunteer assignment. The Volunteer Coordinator will provide guidance as needed on any area not specifically covered by these policies. ASSIGNMENTS | No volunteers should undertake any task unless they have been instructed to do so by a supervising staff member or the Volunteer Coordinator. If in doubt, always ask for guidance. Volunteers may not speak or act on behalf of Islamic Relief Canada without explicit approval; refer inquiries to paid staff. CHILD PROTECTION | IRC takes very seriously the dignity and safety of all its staff, volunteers, and beneficiaries, particularly children. If you interact with children in your capacity as a volunteer for IRC, at least two adult volunteers or staff members must be present at all times. No volunteer may be alone with a child in a room with a closed door at any time. If your volunteer assignment involves frequent involvement with children, IRC may perform, or may request that third parties perform, reference and background checks at any time that will be performed in accordance with applicable federal or provincial law. All reference and background check results will be maintained in a confidential file by the Volunteer Coordinator.
CONFIDENTIALITY | As a volunteer, you may receive or have access to confidential information or internal communications. You will not disclose, use, lecture upon, reproduce or publish any of IRC’s confidential information. By way of illustration but not limitation, «Confidential Information» includes (a) ideas, processes, formulas, programs, works of authorship, know-how, improvements, discoveries, developments, designs and techniques; and (b) information regarding internal communications, business plans, budgets and unpublished financial statements, regulatory matters, marketing and fundraising, licenses, donors and partners; and (c) information regarding the skills and compensation of any employee of IRC. IRC reserves the exclusive right to deem any IRC information as «Confidential Information.» You may receive communications designated “Internal Use Only.” These communications are for your general information and should not be disclosed to the public without prior express permission. CONFLICT OF INTEREST | Volunteers are obligated to avoid conflict-of-interest situations. Volunteers should take the responsibility upon themselves to declare potential or actual conflicts of interest or to seek the guidance of their managers when in doubt. Islamic Relief Canada expects that the professional conduct of all volunteers is of the highest standard and to embody its core value of justice (adl). COMPENSATION AND REIMBURSEMENT | A volunteer cannot be compensated for their work in the form of money or other incentives. IRC may reimburse a volunteer for official business expenses such as gas mileage for a trip on behalf of IRC. USE OF ISLAMIC RELIEF CANADA’S NAME | No volunteer may use the name “Islamic Relief Canada” or its abbreviation “IRC” to designate any business, social, political, religious, or other organization; or to suggest that any such organization is affiliated with, or favoured, or opposed by Islamic Relief Canada; or to display either of these names in connection with any political, social, religious, or economic activity. In particular, Islamic Relief Canada stationary (i.e. letter headed documents) is to be used only for official business. MEDIA RELATIONS | Volunteers should avoid being interviewed, commenting, or expressing themselves on behalf of Islamic Relief Canada to any media outlets in-person or online. Direct all media relation issues to the Volunteer Coordinator and the Public Relations Head at head office.
