by the Provincial Science and Technology Center (PSTC) staff. The MOA Signing between the two parties seals the assistance to be extended by DOST to SWABE. The assistance aims to acquire efficient processing equipment for tea making, enhance product packaging and labeling, increase production output and increase gross sales. In an interview with SWABE President Arleta Ferolin and Treasurer Maria Orot, both expressed their gratitude to DOST for the GIA Project. Ferolin said that the project is an answered prayer for the organization. She said the organization worked hard to register its name with the Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) for the issuance of receipts and the renewal of the all its licenses. She further said that she was more than happy now that the MOA took place. On the other hand, Provincial S&T Director Engr. Mario E. de la Peña hopes that this assistance could generate increased gross sales for the organization. He then reminded the association that in order to sustain the project, the association should allocate a portion of would-be gross sales for the purchase of product packaging and labeling. “Part of the assistance is the laboratory analysis which hopefully will lead to the process of securing a License to Operate (LTO) from the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA)”, de la Peña said. SWABE is a women’s association located in San Antonio, Siquijor, Siquijor. It has been making and marketing herbal tea and liniments using different kinds of herbal plants as raw materials. The group marketed its products to selected retail stores and souvenir shops which later captured the attention of the local market. Eventually, tourists were seen buying their products. Soon after, orders began filling up and the firm can no longer cope up with the orders taking into consideration its existing processing equipment. Because of this need, the firm approached DOST for possible assistance. To note DOST also pioneered in helping SWABE develop its liniment production through technology transfer, trainings and lecture. (mbcn/rac/PIA7Siquijor/Engr. Reinhold Jek Abing/ DOST-Siquijor)
