DOH-7 campaigns for healthy pregnancy SIQUIJOR, May 24 (PIA) -- More than 100 pregnant women provincewide attended the Buntis Wellness Congress of Department of Health (DOH) regional office held recently at the Gender and Development (GAD) building, Poblacion, Siquijor, Siquijor. The event is one of the many measures of DOH to adress the results of a recent study which shows that in every 100,000 live births, there are 209 mothers who die due to pregnancy complications.

According to Janet Cortes, medical practitioner of DOH-regional office, the congress is seen to help DOH’s goals for the reduction of deaths. Sharing the importance and the positive effects of early prenatal, Cortes said prenatal care should be done the soonest time one suspects that she is pregnant. She said it should be done to monitor the mother’s pregnancy and the health complications of both the baby and the mother.

The congress also include the importance of oral hygiene during pregnancy, how to prevent HIV and its mode of transmission. Free HIV testing and counselling to all who attended were also done. DOH also distributed neonatal gift kits for the pregnant mothers who attended the congress. The event’s theme is: “Healthy si Mommy, Happy si Baby.” (rmn/rac/ PIA7-Siquijor with reports from I.
