DOLE releases livelihood grant to weavers group in San Juan

SIQUIJOR (PIA) --- Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) here recently turned over P100,000 in check as livelihood grant to Napo Romplon Weavers Association (NARWA) for bags and garments production and marketing livelihood project. Part of DOLE’s Integrated Livelihood Program (DILP), the project complements the Department of Trade and Industry’s (DTI) Shared Service Facilities (SSF) project where the same group has received sets of sewing machines for the production of garments, home, and other souvenir items. “It’s good the government agencies are complementing each other’s resources,” DTI-Siquijor provincial director Nimfa Virtucio said, citing the machines and equipment acquired through DTI, the materials for production through DOLE, and the building through the local government unit of San Juan. “ K o n m a g t i n a b a n g a y, d a l i molambo (If we all cooperate, progress will be quicker),” Virtucio said as she challenged the beneficiaries to strive to create impact from out of the government’s e ff o r t t o a u g m e n t t h e i r i n c o m e . She hopes that with the assistance, the organization will be strengthened more. She also urged them to be more creative in making quality products. DOLE officer Nole Torres also encouraged the beneficiaries to take care of the organization and the assistance accorded them and to thank the barangay LGU for agreeing to be the co-partner/ conduit of the project, otherwise it would be difficult to release the fund, he said. He said the program is in line with the government’s thrust to make economic growth inclusive to benefit the poor and contribute to poverty alleviation. Napo barangay captain Edith Bucol and NRWA President Ginda Dandoy both thanked the government agencies for the assistance and gave their commitment to sustain the project. Likewise, DTI SSF coordinator Annie Patria pledge to support the beneficiaries. (rmn/rac/PIA7-Siquijor)
