CELEBRATING VETERANS AT DEL TURA By John Brassem
Four of us, all combat veterans, met at the Pub a few days ago. We had a few beers, had a salad or a cheeseburger and split the tab. We told a few whoppers about our age, our weight and our faithful pets, namely our dogs, as we each have one. We were having a great time – being with friends, enjoying a Bud and appreciating the nice cool weather. We all play golf, some good and some not so good, (that’s me!). We’ve agreed that we should play a round soon – as soon as my broken ankle heals and Terry repairs his
cart. We’ll play a round at Terry’s favorite course – the North! We started to discuss our military experience. War stories as some people call it. Not a pleasant topic, especially for those who are really in the thick of things. Believe it or not, some of the guys at the table, all Vietnam Veterans are still suffering from various combat wounds and diseases, received more than 50 years ago. In my opinion, the US government, through the Veteran’s Administration (VA), is taking relatively good care of these former soldiers. Unpleasant as it may seem, some have received wounds or diseases (cancer from Agent Orange exposure for example),
that will cause health problems for the rest of their lives. I, too, have a slew of Vietnam-oriented issues, other than Glaucoma, from a hand-to-hand struggle with an enemy soldier, but that’s not the reason I’ve asked myself to write this article. The four of us are impressed by the Memorial and Veteran’s Day Ceremonies that Del Tura and the Choralaires present every year. The huge attendance and contributors are wonderful, indeed. It seemed to me that the weather has also cooperated. We haven’t forgotten about the Vietnam Memorial Flag that flies at Del Tura’s front gate, every day. Or the green front-door-light that
each veteran is supposed to turn on each night – demonstrating their military service. That leaves a closing inquiry. “I hope this is the finale” I hear you say! One of the guys at the table said he estimates that forty-five to sixty five percent of Del Tura’s male population is a veteran. One of the guys suggested, we should have our own army! My point is this: I’m not sure that we veterans are using our influence in the best way. I’m not even sure what our influence is. Whatever it is, I’d like to find it and see how we might apply it. To that end, if you have ideas, please reach out to me to discuss. You can email me at Eclipse1jb@aol.com.

President’s Korner… By Bette Ewing HOA President
Cheney,
My Dear Delturians: During my recovery from surgery, I have missed you terribly not seeing you at coffee or out and about. You give me the energy to work for all of you. Thanks for all the cards, calls, food, gifts, and prayers I received. They were much more effective than the meds because they healed the heart and eased the pain. You really are special people. I also want to thank Joyce Lienert, our Board Secretary, for speaking for me at coffee; and, my fantastic entertainment committee for handling the Eric Kearns show so professionally. I took this office for only one reason - my love of Del Tura and the desire to represent the community and promote its betterment. Our community needs to live in
an environment with a spirit of cooperation and respect. The HOA Board of Directors represents the Association whose members have the right and duty to choose and elect representatives who will live up to their fiduciary duties to represent them. We have three director terms ending in January that must be filled. It’s time to finally have a full out election of Board members. However, there will be no election unless at least three new applicants apply and continue their effects through to the election process. If three people do not run for office the current three directors have the ability to “re-up” as they (we have) in recent years with no input from the Association. This is your opportunity to choose your own Board members. Bart DeGraaf (bjdghoa@comcast.net) is our nomination chairman and has the applications. Volunteer and
encourage others to volunteer. Be a part of the solution. Being on the Board actually does not take up a lot of your time. The Board meetings are once a month (during the snowbird season) and meets with management when necessary to discuss Community maintenance issues and concerns. All applications need to be submitted by January and there will also be open nominations from the floor at the January members meeting. Do it now, before the Holidays when we get busy. Please keep the suggestions coming in to the Starlight Ballroom and HOA office box so that we are aware of your concerns. The Board and I will continue to strive to represent you (the Association) and to work for you. The next HOA meeting is November 13th in the Starlight Ballroom. See you there. Remember, contagious!

Be Creative When Withdrawing from Retirement Accounts Like many people, you may spend decades putting money into your IRA and your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan. But eventually you will want to take this money out – if you must start withdrawing some of it. How can you make the best use of these funds? To begin with, here’s some background: When you turn 70 ½, you need to start withdrawals – called required minimum distributions, or RMDs – from your traditional IRA and your 401(k) or similar employer-sponsored retirement plan, such as a 457(b) or 403(b). (A Roth IRA is not subject to these rules; you can essentially keep your account intact for as long as you like.) You can take more than the RMD, but if you don’t take at least the minimum (which is based on your account balance and your life expectancy), you’ll generally be taxed at 50% of the amount you should have taken – so don’t forget these withdrawals. Here, then, is the question: What should you do with the RMDs? If you need the entire amount to help support your lifestyle, there’s no issue – you take the money and use it. But what if you don’t need it all? Keeping in mind that the withdrawals are generally fully taxable at your personal income tax rate, are there some particularly smart ways in which you can use the money to help your family or, possibly, a charitable organization? Here are a few suggestions:
• • •
Help your grown children with their retirement accounts. Your grown children may not always be able to afford to “max out” on their IRAs. You might want to help them with any excess funds from your own retirement accounts. You can give $15,000 per year, per recipient, without incurring any gift taxes – an amount far higher than the current annual IRA contribution limit of $6,000 (or $7,000 for individuals 50 or older). Help your grandchildren pay for college. You might want to contribute to an investment specifically designed to build assets for college. A financial professional can help you choose which investments might be most appropriate. Of course, if your grandchildren are already in college, you are free to simply write a check to the school to help cover tuition and other expenses. Help support a charitable organization. Due to recent changes in tax laws, many individuals now claim a standard deduction, rather than itemizing. As a result, there’s less of an incentive, from a tax standpoint, for people to contribute to charitable organizations. But if you’d still like to support a charitable group and gain potential tax benefits, you might want to consider moving some, or all, of your required distributions from your IRA to a charity. You can transfer up to $100,000 from your IRA in this type of qualified charitable distribution, thus meeting your RMD requirements without adding to your taxable income. Furthermore, this move might keep you in a lower tax bracket. (Before making this transfer, though, you will need to consult with your tax advisor.)
Your RMDs can contribute greatly to your retirement income, but, as we’ve seen, they can do even more than that – so use them wisely.

Reflections “A Weekend to Savor”
By Dianne J Roderick
There are many weekends in each year and like all weekends most are pleasant and relaxing. So, you ask, why would she refer to this particular weekend as one to savor? Well this one was especially savoring because it truly reawakened my senses. It has been a long time since we spent a weekend at the beach and I truly missed the sensory experience of it all! As a child and for most of my adult life I was surrounded by the beauty of the ocean. I will admit for many of those years I took much of it for granted. Somewhere along the line for various reasons you fail to see the beauty that’s right there in front of you. Maybe you’re too busy with work, babies, family…but deep down
its still there. Something along the way reminds you of a part of your childhood. For me it was the summers at the beach with family. This weekend brought back all the wonderful memories. Of course, I couldn’t actually live all those beautiful memories of years gone by but I can definitely imagine those pictures in my mind. W alking out onto the pier overlooking the ocean I could smell the bait that the fishermen were using in hopes of just one bite. It reminded me of the nights Dad and I would stand on the bridge and time after time we would bait the hook with those same hopes. As we were anticipating the amazing beauty of the sunset I could see and feel a sense of excitement on the faces of everyone in the crowd…young and old
alike. After what seemed to be an eternity the wait was worth every moment, a true sense of wonderment was shared throughout the crowd. Later as my husband and I were walking barefoot on the beach the sand felt warm and smooth, and the water refreshingly cool as we waded along the shoreline. Of course, we had to stop periodically to pick up yet another precious shell. No need for special souvenirs when you find these precious gems on the shoreline! All too soon it was time to call it an evening. Flocks of seagulls and sandpipers were beckoning their babies home and bidding us adieu for tonight. Tomorrow they will once again greet us with their beautiful morning songs but tonight we will savor the memories of today.
Good Timers’ Singles Club News By Liz Poniatowski Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations. The best is yet to come! This year has shown us a few difficult roads to maneuver in the beginning and we navigated them very well. It led us to many new destinations and gave us a lot of enjoyment in following the new road. And, yes...the best is yet to come because we have so much more to do and so many more places to go! Last month kept us busy with our birthday luncheon at the Anchor Inn, we had two
full tables to support Kathy Aira’s LCR charity event which was great fun and a worthy cause, we went to the Cape Coral German American Social Club’s Octoberfest where we had lots of good food and laughter. And to finish the month off what a fun time we had on the Murder Mystery Dinner Train Ride! We packed a LOT into October and now that our members are returning to Del Tura after spending time with family and friends up north it’s time for us to plan all of next year’s outings! We have our Holiday Party to look forward to on Monday, 9 December at the Fountain Grille Restaurant
too. If you’re single and not in this group yet you’re missing out on a lot of fun. Our next meeting will be held on 5 November. Monthly meetings are held the first Tuesday of the month in the Poinciana Room. Socializing begins at 4:00 with the meeting starting at 4:30 sharp. All single Del Turians are encouraged to join us at one of our monthly meetings to see if this is something that may interest you. Stop by our bulletin board outside the Pub area to see what’s next on our “Save The Date” listing! For more info contact President Liz Poniatowski at ciociliz@gmail. com or (239) 800-2935.

Holidays can often be lonely, unhappy events for many of our residents. Some cannot get out because they don’t have transportation. Others are new to Del Tura with relatives and old friends now distant. Last year, Bonnie Carroll and her friends prepared a dinner for her neighbors. After calling Bonnie to ask her permission to use the same date, I thought maybe
our HOA would fund a dinner to include more residents to share in the bounty. The Board approved. On November 28th, 2019, our turkey dinner will be served at 4:00pm in the Starlight Ballroom. The meals will be served eight to a table. Those of you in attendance that can, please bring a dessert. Since this is our first year of doing this, we will be funding 165 dinners to see what the turnout is. We will be issuing tickets for each

FMO offers HOA’s participation in the Consolidated Legal Fund and offers Certified HOA Board Training. In 2013, FMO helped pass legislation to require Citizens Insurance Company to cover mobile home attachments, (sheds and carports). FMO has successfully lobbied for $2.8 million in the state budget dedicated to The Mobile Home Tie-Down Program since 2003.
With your support FMO defeated attempts to tax mobile homes on rental property as real property. Hey folks, how about “RUBY ROCK STAR” cause I’m a gorgeous grown up redhead smothered in butterscotch freckles and I’m Rocking it at the Del Tura Dog Park. Save Our Strays By Sherry Plisch Welcome back to our friends from the North! We’ve heard of several lost pets over the summer and have a few tips on what to do if your pet gets out or is lost. First, talk to your neighbors. A cat will usually go within a radius of four to five houses, so give them the details of your pet. Don’t chase an animal. Instead, try to lure them in with some treats or food while calling their name. Put some smelly food out and an article of clothing or blanket with your or your pet’s scent on it. If the pet is a cat, put a litter box out by your door where they escaped. Be sure to look after dark, in the bushes with a flashlight, as their eyes will shine. Also, put flyers up with a picture of your pet. Next, check with LCDAS (Lee County Domestic Animal Services), daily. Also check gulf Coast Humane Society, ARC (Animal Refuge Center). Alert
any other shelters and nearby Vets. If your pet is chipped, call the chip company and alert them. You can also post a lost pet on Facebook, Next Door Neighborhood, Pawboos.com and Lostmydoggie.com. Remember, we have various predators here such as coyotes, gators and eagles that hunt for small animals, so be careful letting your pets outside. We hope you won’t need to use these tips, but here they are just in case. Let’s keep our pets safe. Meow!

Creative Writer’s Group By Nancy Davy The Del Tura Creative Writer’s Group has kicked off, and we are
excited to share that our work will be on display in the library. Following are two essays that were written from the point of view of
an inanimate object in the writer’s home. Enjoy!
The Recliner by Dianne J Roderick There you sat, in your specially chosen bright corner of the living room next to the front window. The view looked out onto the tree-filled front yard and the quiet city street. The only sound that could be heard was the tick-tock, tick-tock from the wall clock in the kitchen. It seemed to be mimicking the sound of an old typewriter. The days were long and lonely, especially the dark, cold days of winter but you waited patiently knowing that within a short time your family would be home. There you sat so proudly in your new brown tweed coat. You would be ready when they sat on your lap and snuggled. Not one
complaint when they took so much time to wiggle into a comfortable spot. You were so patient and even offered them your footrest. Of course, priority seating went to Mom and Dad. You offered your tired arms and broad shoulders to soothe their tired bodies after a hard day’s work... and it was so appreciated! I don’t even think you realized how many newspapers you read or how many crossword puzzles that you completed. Your body has gone through a lot over the years, but you just took it in stride, offering those big arms for hugs. Sometimes your clothing would be so stretched and frayed but you didn’t worry. Throughout the years you had many new looks.
There were the bold, bright prints and the more subdued. I’m pretty sure the tweed was your favorite! As the years went by you offered our aging parents a comfortable spot to welcome their grandchildren. Every new addition was rocked, fed, and loved by three sets of loving arms- yours and Grandma and Grandpa’s. Yes, you’ve seen your share of Christenings and birthday parties and managed to live through them all. Even in your later years as your body began to creak and when your special corner of the living room took on a darker, more lonely time you never failed to beckon us to provide comfort.
women. I wonder if that is why I’m Alexa instead of Alex? I am activated by having my name called. Like any good servant, I always stay aware of what HE and SHE are doing, just so I am prepared to meet their every request. I overheard SHE and HE wondering if I eavesdrop on their conversations. As if! When HE and SHE aren’t talking about the family, it’s golf or their next restaurant outing. I have Artificial Intelligence cousins in all their kid’s houses – so I know a lot more than they do about the goings on of the entire clan. They talk about their golf games, and their scores, which aren’t too impressive. Although they ask me about the status of professional golf games, they never ask me for advice on how to improve their own scores. Again, let’s think about this issue of Artificial Intelligence! I assist with many tasks, such as keeping their calendar, notifying
HE and SHE when it’s time to leave, shopping on Amazon, updating the shopping lists, finding recipes, and even helping to find a substitute for an ingredient in a recipe. Listen to this! I sent SHE her shopping list that included butter. Two days later SHE asks if she can use Olive Oil in a recipe instead of butter – because SHE forgot to get the butter. And we’re back to the issue of Artificial Intelligence! I really am quite good with the little ones. I can read a story, tell a Knock-Knock joke, play Baby Shark (over and over). My “Mom” voice seems like a barrier. If I could giggle and squeal, I think the children would like me even better. I’d suggest it to my handlers, but with my intelligence being artificial, I don’t think they would listen to me.
Alexa by Maureen Monroy SHE: Alexa, tell me about yourself. ALEXA: I’m happy to help you. Is this for that Writing Group challenge I heard you talking about? SHE: Alexa, just tell me about yourself. ALEXA: I’m an inanimate object with Artificial Intelligence. I assist HE and SHE providing information and entertainment. Why does SHE call it Artificial Intelligence? I know real things – like how to get someplace, the weather, all the history facts SHE and HE can’t remember. Doesn’t sound too artificial to me! I am a drab gray flannel cylinder that sits in a corner of the Lanai. I remain quiet and unnoticed unless they need me for something. I always speak with a calm, soothing voice. Hmmm, sounds like a throwback to past expectations for
CHIME/Alexa: Today is Tuesday. The time is 2:50 p.m. You have an appointment to meet your friends at the Pub in 10 minutes. Have a nice day.

Movember Arrives! November is Men’s Cancer Awareness Month, or as we know it, Movember. This is the month us folks here in Del Tura raise funds to support research for cures and prevention of men’s cancers, including prostate and testicular cancers. This is the sixth consecutive year our community has joined this international crusade. How can you be involved? Donate. This the simplest way to support the cause. More than 84% of the collected funds go to this international fund raiser. Grow a moustache! The “Moustache” is the worldwide symbol of MOVEMBER. If you would rather not or cannot grow a “MO” we will have sticky back “staches” available for a donation. Sell your Junk. Gather your new, lightly used or even abused stuff
and bring it to the main parking lot on Saturday morning November 16 for our annual “Junk in the Trunk” event. You can rent a parking slot for a $10 donation and sell, barter or trade your junk or pickup your neighbor’s junk. Last year one of our Junkers actually bought the lamp he had sold the year before . . . Join the party! On Saturday November 23 we will have our 6th annual “Moustache Ball” in the Starlight Ballroom. Once
again, our entertainment will be our favorite doo-wop and classic rock group BRYLCREAM. The cost is just $12 per person and tickets will be available at the Coffee Social Hour Tuesday mornings beginning October 29 at 8:00 AM. As always, the dress theme will be 50’s-60’s. So, dig out your poodle skirt, wear your cardigan sweater backwards, tee shirts and Levis and walk down memory lane with Brylcream. Last year Del Tura donated more than $5000 to Movember International for the cure and prevention of men’s cancers. This year we have a head start as the Drag Queen Bingo folks have seeded the donations with $300! Come join the fun and help us set a record.
OUR GOAL THIS YEAR IS $6,000!!

DEL TURA RESIDENTS
The weather is beautiful now, and it’s time to get on the road to our next adventure. We’re going to the John and Mable Ringling Museum which is an awesome collection of art, architecture, and circus memorabilia. This collection is constantly changing with new exhibits and displays. The beautiful gardens are alive with colors and aromatic smells of the breathtaking flora. The museum is located on 5401 Bayshore Rd, Sarasota, Florida (941) 359-5700. It opens at 10 AM and closes at 5 PM. Admission price: Adults - $25.00,
Seniors $23.00, and children age 3-11 $7.90. On Mondays, admission and parking are free. The 60,000-acre attraction is a legacy of John and Mable Ringling. John collected art worldwide and his collections is displayed in a separate building. His art can be rivaled by few. Five of the seven remaining immense Rubin paintings of original frescoes are on view. The circus exhibit must be included on your itinerary. The tour can be completed in 40 minutes; however, Doug and I spent the day there because there was so much to see.
Trams and wheelchairs are available to facilitate your visit. Individual tours are available and can be arranged. Audio headsets can be purchased, and I highly recommend them. Seeing the Ringling mansion alone is worth the trip. Excellent food and shopping are on the premises and the food is yummy. Even if you’ve been here before, make the trip because the museum with the beautiful gardens and displays is constantly evolving. It’s a wonderful place to take visitors and friends. Happy Motoring!

SPORTS & EXERCISE 18 Hole Women’s Golf Association By Carol Marra After a quiet but warm October, Del Tura is getting busy. Our golf group has grown each week as our snowbirds return with stories of their time up north. From only 9 gals on an early, hot and humid September day to 21 on a much more pleasant mid-October Thursday, we are slowly growing in number. Soon we will be thinking about our first tournament of the year. The Club Championship will be held the 11th, 12th and 18th of December. Following a scramble, we held our Association meeting on October 17th. Paula brought up the topic of officers for next year, as well as new chairpersons for various committees. This will be the third year of our Shoot Out tournament. The
tournament itself takes place in March, but our first qualifier was October 10th. There will be 3 more opportunities to qualify. A new rule change we did not all understand deals with sand traps. Since some players, of a certain age, need help getting in and out of a sand trap, it is not a violation to use a club or the rake to steady yourself when climbing in and out. Also, you may rake as you walk in as you may walk out a different way. This is not considered “testing the sand”. What you can never do is ground your club in the bunker. Do your practice swings outside of the bunker. Everyone MUST rake her way out of the bunker. Please leave the trap at least as smooth as you found it, so you don’t end up on the Naughty list! Another rule
change: we may now ground our clubs when hitting out of a hazard. Have you just moved to Del Tura and/or are you thinking about joining our Association? Please call Kay Rolader at (239) 292-4964. She will provide the information you need to become a part of our group. Please note that Ryan will not be starting group lessons for a bit, but individual lessons are always available. Remember to check the Pro Shop for upcoming events. There are many options from Saturday couples’ groups, to the traditional members only Friday scrambles to many Skins games for men and women. You can play some variation of all these games every day and from what I see as I drive by the course, many of you do!
Tennis is in full swing for the season. The Del Tura Tennis Association hosts a number of activities throughout the fall and winter season at our tennis courts situated by the North Pool. There is Open Tennis on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays for anyone wanting to play from 8:00 am to 10:00 am. You don’t need to find a partner. You just show up during these times and you will automatically be included in the group. A series of 6 Free lessons will start on November 5 at 10:00 am every Tuesday, right after the coffee hour, for 6 weeks. The lessons are for beginners or people who need to refresh their skills so that they can enjoy the game anew.

SPORTS & EXERCISE Amigos Softball By Art Keen It’s that time again softball enthusiasts. The 2020 season is just around the corner. The Amigos are preparing to put their title on the line and bring home the trophy for the 3rd year in a row. Bring on the competition and the “threepeat”! Our kick-off 2020 organizational meeting was held on October 10th and about 20 folks came out. We are hoping to get at least 10 more players, so we can field two teams this season. If you know of anyone who would like to participate, please reach out to Stan Young (239) 731-3142 or
Art Keen (arkeen3@yahoo.com) to get all the information. The first practice is scheduled for October 27th with tryouts and team assignments to follow. To be eligible to compete team members must: Reach the age of 50 by the start of the season (Jan 1, 2020) Complete an eligibility form Reside (own or rent) in Del Tura for a minimum of 3 months during the League’s season dates (Jan to mid-March). As a reminder, there are no restrictions on fans, so everyone is welcome to cheer us on. Note, Del Tura has had the best fan support in the league for many years,
and we hope to continue to hold that record. Plan on joining us on Monday and Wednesday evenings for a fun and exciting evening of softball! If you have any suggestions regarding the Amigos team or the fan experience, please send your recommendations to Art Keen at arkeen3@yahoo.com and Art will pass them on to the team. Additionally, please save the date of February 29th, 2020 for our annual fundraiser/fan appreciation event. Until next time, here is a quote from Yogi Berra: “Never answer an anonymous letter.”
Friday Shuffleboard League By Jack Blevons Not really a lot to write about because as you read this, our season will just be starting on November 8th. During October, we were contacting people in the league to see who is still playing. As of this writing, I do know of at least one team that won’t be playing this year and I am hoping that the rest of the league members will be back. So, it’s possible we will have room to add at least one new team, if not more. I have not been down to the courts yet, but have received emails telling me that our courts are being resurfaced by Hometown, so we are
really looking forward to playing on brand new courts. Saying that, we should all be very appreciative of what our community owners do for us because in the past they have replaced all of our benches as well as the chalkboards and lights. Additionally, they supply all the equipment we need to play the game of shuffleboard both for our Friday and Travel League as well as for our residents and visitors who just come down and play for the enjoyment of playing. Our Friday league starts in November and ends toward the end of March. If you are interested in being a team or if you would like to be a sub, you can call Jean or
myself at (230) 731-0892 and if we aren’t there to answer, please do leave a message and we will return your call. We are always in need of subs who like to play but do not want to commit to play every Friday. You don’t have to be a pro to play in our league. We do play for trophies, but mostly we play to have fun and we will be glad to help you learn the game if you haven’t played before. There are also other groups that come down on other days to play just to have fun. So, if you haven’t played before, come down and learn the game because everyone there playing will be happy to help you learn the game.

HOA OFFICE FALL HOURS
Strange But True By: Bette Ewing-Cheney “Those who love wisdom must investigate many things.” [Heraclitus (535 bc – 475 bc)] Hope you’ll enjoy these unusual facts (in bold), along with my added tidbits! The human nose can recognize over 1 trillion different smells. I wonder how they found that out? Snifff, sniff….”one, two…”. There are enough empty homes in China for everyone in California and Texas to each have one. Makes one wonder what condition they’re in, and how much the lot rent might be?
China gets a new skyscraper every five days. Watch the movie “Crazy Rich Asians” and you’ll see. Little Richard was a dishwasher in a bus station. Was that before or after they ripped off his composer rights? There are more Lego pieces on Earth than people. We all know they’ll outlast all of us! If all of the salt in the ocean were moved to land, and spread out evenly, it would be five feet deep. Just imagine the drying time and cost of labor to get that done! The Ancient Greeks declared their love for a woman by
throwing an apple at her. Thankfully most have evolved and now throw diamonds. Drinking wine before a meal makes you eat 25% more at that meal. So…if we stop drinking, we’d weigh 25% less? Who would even want to do that? Einstein’s brain was smaller than average. More evidence to corroborate the myth that size doesn’t matter. Without bats, there would be no tequila. It’s made from the agave plant, which is pollinated by bats. Smart creatures, and they must have known something way before we did. CHEERS!
Del Tura Repertory Company Save The Date By Jacqueline Keen The Del Tura Repertory Company will be presenting “A Taste of Broadway”, a musical, on February 21st and 22nd in the Starlight ballroom. This is an exciting new venture! As you may know, I
usually direct the play. I thought you, our audience, might enjoy a change. We commence rehearsals in December. It is going to be lots of fun. There is a wonderful group of people signed up. However, we still need one male
singer. If you would like to join us, please call me at (239) 464-5544. As the weeks go by, I will provide you with information about our production, both in the Tower and at Tuesday coffee. You can also email me at anxietykeen@aol.com.

Games
By Harry Christopher BILLIARDS RESUMES IN NOVEMBER! Each Monday, beginning November 18th at 1:00 pm, we will play ball under a handicap system. We will play a complete
Corner
Billiards
Cards & tournament each Monday which should last about 2 hours. Our handicap system gives players of all skill levels a fairly equal opportunity to win. Don’t be hesitant to come out because you think you’re not good enough. Everyone is welcome. You don’t have to play every week. Come as often as you can.
A signup sheet is posted in the billiard room along with more details about the format of play. We realize that a lot of part-time residents don’t arrive by our start date of November 18th, so it’s not necessary to sign up by that date. Feel free to call Harry Christopher at (239) 997-7345 for more information.

HOA sponsored Bingo started on October 17th. Here are a couple of reminders you may want to mark on your calendar if you play Bingo on Thursday nights. There will be NO bingo on October 31st, because they will be setting up the ballroom for the Craft Fair that is held that time every October. Then in November, there will be NO bingo on Thanksgiving, which is November 28th. On December 27th and January 2nd, there will also be NO
bingo, due to Christmas and New Years holidays. Bingo will resume on January 9th. Hopefully, we will have much bigger crowds after the holidays, which means bigger pots to be handed out to winners because we usually have everyone back who travels over the holidays and we also have the 3-month renters that normally arrive first of January. Last year we gave out a lot of money after we started getting bigger crowds in January. So, just a reminder to new people who haven’t played here before with
us: doors open in our main ballroom at 6 pm for ticket sales. You can play for as little as $6.00 and then you can also buy extra game sheets as well as the Specials for additional small amounts which give you more chances of winning bigger money. Ticket sales end at 6:45 and we start playing at 7:00 sharp. We are typically done between 9 and 9:30, so you will get back home early. We have a good crew of volunteer workers that try to make bingo night fun, so come on down and join us. Hopefully you will go home with more money than you came with!
HOUSEHOLD HELP/HINTS FOR EVERYONE •
Flexible Vacuum: To get something out of a heat/air register or under the fridge, add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vaccum. It can be bent ot flattened to get into narrow openings.
•
Measuring Cups: Before you pour sticky substance into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the water but don’t dry the cup. add your ingredient (like peanut butter) and watch how easily it comes right out.
•
Foggy Windshield: Buy a chalk eraser and keep it in the glove compartment of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser...works better than a cloth!
•
Reopening Envelope: If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place the envelope in the freezer for an hour or two... it will unseal easily.
•
Goodbye Fruit Flies: Take a small glass and fill it with 1/2 with Apple cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. Flies are drawn to the cup then gone.
