Choralaires Holiday Concert Huge Success On Saturday December 2nd, our own Choralaires presented their annual Holiday Concert and Tree Lighting. Under the direction of Dave Adams, ďŹ fty three members performed in front of two capacity crowds in the Starlight Ballroom. The program contained a variety of tunes as well as the annual sing-along, and the appreciation of the audience was evident by two rousing standing ovations.
Congratulations to Dave and all the Choralaires. Special thanks to the sound and lighting crew as well, for their excellent work in support of the concert. A reminder that now is the time to join the Choralaires for their Spring Concert preparations. Rehearsals are held Tuesday evenings from 6:30-8:30 in the Starlight Ballroom. No experience is necessary. If you like to sing, you meet the requirements.

getting us back on our feet. As you might suspect, the work continues, but the accomplishments to date have been terrific. If you hadn’t heard, we lost 750 trees during Irma, to say nothing of the branches and debris that were everywhere at the conclusion of the storm. Fred Taylor and his staff are to be commended for the work they did restoring things for us. I hope you will all take the time to be both safe and courteous as the new “season” begins in earnest. Please respect the rules and the property of others. Please remember that you must be 16 years of age and licensed to drive a golf cart in Florida. Please obey our speed limit signs as well. After all….we’re retired! No need to rush! It’s ok to slow down! And please remember to keep your autos and houses locked to prevent unwanted theft. In recent weeks as I traveled around on my golf cart in the evening to check out our holiday lights, I noticed
a lot of garages that are left open late into the evening. Please be smart and close your garage door after dark. That’s especially important now that things will get busy and there will be increased movement in the streets at all hours. “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!” Finally, just a reminder that our annual meeting is coming up in February. I encourage you all to join us, and also want to remind all committee chairpersons that they should attend the meeting and be prepared to report on the activities of their committee this past year. It’s been a great one, and we’d all like to hear your positive stories. So” buckle up everyone” and let’s enjoy all the great things Del Tura has to offer. As always, from my viewpoint, it’s…….just another day in paradise! Dave Adams HOA President

Happy New Year One and All….. The beginning of 2018 is upon us and as is usually the case, things here in Del Tura will become exceptionally busy for the next several months! The pools will be buzzing with activity, the golf courses will be at their peak, all our clubs will be actively meeting, restaurants will be busy, and the entertainment schedule will be full. The really great thing about Del Tura is the incredible number of activities from which we have to choose on an almost daily basis. If you are just returning to us, welcome back! I hope you will take the time to look around at the things that have changed while you were away. Most importantly, be sure to note the overall appearance of our development. Remember……Just a few short months ago, we were visited by Irma. I hope you are impressed by the job our Del Tura crew did

By Ginnie Benjamins LOOK FOR YOUR INVITATION In mid-January, please be watching for your invitation if you are in a very special group of our Del Tura residents. You must be 90 or older in 2018. If you receive an invitation and you are not ninety, please just give me a call. I am not trying to age you more quickly than the calendar, it is because someone gave me your name. Our ninety plus residents will be invited to a luncheon in
February in the Herons Glen dining room. Each ninety plus resident will be asked to bring one person of their choice to attend the luncheon with them. There is No Charge to anyone. This is Del Tura’s FISH way of honoring our older residents. You will be able to pick what you would like to eat. All of this will be on the invitation. The members of the FISH Board are excited to be offering this luncheon. To the members of FISH, please make sure you turn in all your hours to Betty Scheetz or
me. Betty needs the information for her quarterly report. HAPPY NEW YEAR! We wish you health and happiness in 2018!

FISH Fruit Tree Picking Project Since our last update in the October Tower, we’ve only picked fruit from 2 homes. Normally by now, we‘ve picked over 500 pounds for the soup kitchen – this year, only 75 pounds to date. Irma took a toll on many of our trees and Citrus Greening has done in most of our citrus crop.
The few trees that are producing citrus are dying. There are still some homes with starfruit, mango, avocado and banana trees in the park. As long as they continue to produce, we will be available to pick them, but our future is looking dim!
We’d like to thank Dorothy and Woody Cook and Margaret and Hank Zanger for their donations at the start of this new season. For future picking, call Rick Rudzik 543-3662 or Sherry Plisch 567-0538. Thanks for your support.

In the meadow on the far side of the lake a white bird and a lily stand silently alone as the orange blazing sun continues to rise, creating an awe-inspiring backdrop to signify the beginning of yet another beautiful Del Tura day. Tomorrow I will again come to this hypnotic, peaceful spot to meditate and to watch once again the beauty of nature. As I leave, I will take with me into this new day the beauty of this experience and await nature’s next miracle. Wishing you all a Blessed and Peace-filled New Year…

“Come Walk with Me” The sunrise signifies the beginning of yet another beautiful Del Tura Day… In the still quiet of this New Year morning, nature is waking up from its peaceful sleep. As I begin my early morning walk, the beauty of the day begins to unfold. Birds are happily chirping their favorite songs and the palm trees begin their graceful dancing to the beat of the gentle breeze. Our resident squirrels are busily
chasing each other and two cottontails are playing leap frog in the nearby field. The moist due on the lush green grass glistens like diamonds as the sunlight teases each new blade. I stop for a moment to reflect on the overwhelming sight of these mesmerizing surroundings. The still surface of the lake is like glass, mirroring the branches of the tall pines. The scents of the various floras pleasantly surround me, filling me with a complete sense of peacefulness. A true sensory experience!

Sincerely, South Pool Entertainment Group (Stan Loson & Ron Emo) THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU Thank you residents of Del Tura for your generous donations of money and Christmas decorations of all kinds! Your generosity made the Christmas display of lights and decorations to the entrance of Del Tura possible. Our goal was a bigger and better display and that was accomplished with the help of a committed group - Dick and Denise Rose, Lance and Linda Berlovich, Ray

We thank everyone for your “thank you” comments and your support in keeping this project growing brighter and bigger. We hung approximately 59,000 LED lights and it took over 300 man-hours. New Year’s - Time for New Year’s Financial Resolutions We’ve reached the end of another year – which means it’s just about time for some New Year’s resolutions. Would you like to study a new language, take up a musical instrument or visit the gym more often? All these are worthy goals, of course, but why not also add some financial resolutions? Here are some ideas to think about:
• Increase contributions to your employer-sponsored retirement plan. For 2018, you can contribute up to $18,500 (or $24,500 if you’re 50 or older)
to your 401(k) or similar plan, such as a 403(b), for employees of public schools and some nonprofit groups, or a 457(b) plan, for employees of local governments. It’s usually a good idea to contribute as much as you can afford to your employer’s plan, as your contributions may lower your taxable income, while your earnings can grow tax-deferred. At a minimum, put in enough to earn your employer’s matching contribution, if one is offered.
• Try to “max out” on your IRA. Even if you have a 401(k) or similar plan, you can probably still invest in an IRA. For 2018, you can contribute up to
$5,500 to a traditional or Roth IRA, or $6,500 if you’re 50 or older. (Income restrictions apply to Roth IRAs.) Contributions to a traditional IRA may be tax-deductible, depending on your income, and your earnings can grow tax-deferred. Roth IRA contributions are not deductible, but earnings can grow tax-free, provided you don’t start taking withdrawals until you are 59-1/2 and you’ve have had your account at least five years. You can put virtually any investment in an IRA, so it can expand your options beyond those offered in your 401(k) or similar plan.
• Build an emergency fund. Try to build an emergency fund conaining three to six months’ worth of living expenses, with the money held in a low-
risk, liquid account. This fund can help you avoid dipping into your long-term investments to pay for unexpected costs, such as a new furnace or a major car repair.
• Control your debts. It’s never easy, but do what you can to keep your debts under control. The less you have to spend on debt payments, the more you can invest for your future.
• Don’t overreact to changes in the financial markets. We’ve had a long run of rising stock prices – but it won’t last forever. If we experience a sharp market downturn in 2018, don’t overreact by taking a “time out” from investing. Market drops are a normal feature of the investment landscape, and you may ultimately gain an advantage by buying new shares when their prices are down.
Review your goals and risk tolerance. At least once in 2018, take some time to review your short- and long-term financial goals and try to determine, possibly with the help of a financial professional, if your investment portfolio is still appropriate for these goals. At the same time, you’ll want to reevaluate your risk tolerance to ensure you’re not taking too much risk – or possibly too little risk – with your investments. Do your best to stick with these resolutions throughout the coming year. At a minimum, they can help you improve your investment habits – and they may improve your financial picture far beyond 2018.

January is a DOUBLE WHAMMY month of fun, laughs, and enjoyable listening brought to you by your Entertainment Committee. Whammy #1 - on Saturday, January 20th “LIVERPOOL LIVE” will perform. They are Florida’s top rated Beatles Tribute Band from Orlando. Their performance is not only spot-on complete with costume changes, but they involve you with secrets and stories about the Beatles and their songs. Some of you already have tickets from their Sept. show cancelled after IRMA which are still usable. Tickets will go on sale January 2nd, 9th and 16th. HOA members $20.00 non - HOA $22.00. WOW! Whammy 2 - “ASSISTED LIVING!” the Musical Comedy by Compton & Bennett. This duo performs internationally and is a regular at the Villages. Del Tura hosted them three years ago and they happened to be back in town on Wednesday,
January 24th. What a treat to have them back as they party on stage at the “Pelican Roost” Retirement Home. This musical is for EVERYONE! Come and laugh along with us at the unbelievable, Del Tura only, discounted price of
January 2018 SUPER SHOWS! $15.00 per ticket. (Rick Compton and Betsy Bennett are in the big time now and usually command much, much higher show prices.) Tickets go on sale Jan. 2nd, 9th, 16th, and 23rd. In a sold-out Starlight Ballroom, folks in Del Tura gave
standing ovations, laughed until they cried, cheered, and sang along while rating some extremely talented comedians, singers, a serious(?) magician, an incredible banjo player, a ‘spot on’ Doo Wop trio and spellbinding story tellers who kept the audience captivated and rockin’ for the 3 hour program; not to mention a few of our own gutsy neighbors from the audience who jumped on stage to share the spotlight. On November 30, Tin Pan Alley, brought these 11 diversified performers to Del Tura for the community to get a sense of how acts are chosen for our events each year. Those attending raved about the unique experience, getting just a ‘taste’ of the creativity, talent, and originality of such amazing performers. What an opportunity for us to be able to share our input for future events. Hopefully, one of your favorites will return to the Starlight Ballroom for a full encore program next year.

New – Painting Classes by Pat Ostertag Starting Tuesday, January 9th (1pm-4pm), in the Craft room at the Club House, I will be starting painting classes for all levels of artist and all media including oils, acrylic and watercolors. It’s my hope that all that join will share their talents. I’m an amateur, self -taught acrylic painter. I select a photo and enlarge it on my computer to
8 x 11. I then graft it to enlarge to the size canvas I select. The first class would be Tuesday, Jan 9th 1-4pm. This is the same time slot listed on the activity calendar for oil painting. It is now vacant since Gerri Robbins has left Del Tura. Each person would need to bring their own supplies: acrylic paints, set of brushes, and canvas. Suggested sizes of canvas: 16 x20, 18x24,
22x28. If you’d like it framed, select a frame to fit. Note: large frames are expensive. I have made my own with help from my hubby. Joann’s and Michael’s have all the art supplies at decent prices, looks for sales and coupons. I feel anyone can paint, you just need the passion to create and the willingness to learn. Any questions call or text Pat Ostertag 716-609-9370.

Thank You Del Tura for Another Awesome Blood Drive
By Dennis Cottini We are pleased to announce that due to your willingness, time and energy towards donating blood, Lee Health staff collected 23 units at last month’s blood drive on December 6th. This number included welcomed walk-
in’s. We almost achieved our goal of 30 units, as there are always a few deferrals. Remember the blood collected always remains in Lee County. The Lee Health staff and I thank everyone for their con-
tinued support with our Blood Drives. Reminder: Del Tura’s next blood drive is scheduled for Wednesday, March 21, 2018. Please call me with any questions - 239-217-0592.

You got ‘em? I want ‘em! I am collecting “BOXTOPS for EDUCATION” for North Fort Myers Academy for the Arts. I would love your support in collecting them too. Each Boxtop is worth 10 cents. This doesn’t sound like much but they add up quickly. They will be used to buy books, equipment and supplies to help teach our future generation.

18-Hole Women’s Association By Carol Marra Club Championship: Once again our Club Champion is Paula Lafrienere. She has now won 8 times! It is a remarkable record we can all admire. Flight 1 winners are: 1) Yvonne Torsok, 2) Brenda Sharp 3) Maria Matthews. Flight 2: 1) Brenda Snyder 2) Linda Beiermann 3) Kay Rolader Flight 3: 1) Marty Riley 2) Wilma Antaya 3) Elaine Deraney and Flight 4: 1) Margie Blackwell 2) Sharon Daniels 3) Donna Johnson. Congratulations to all these ladies! LEGA and Invitationals are now starting. They are posted in the Dungeon. These are golf events held outside of Del Tura. We organize car pools to the various courses. Lunch is always included. Prizes for LEGA are based on individual scores while Invitationals are team events. It is an enjoyable way to try another course and meet new people. If you are new to Del Tura: We are always looking for new
members. Our membership chairperson is Micki Sullivan. You can contact Micki at 567-2975 if you are interested in joining. She has all the information and can answer your questions. The Member-Member tournament was played December
6th and 7th. Winning teams are: Flight 1-Peggy Deems and Elaine Deraney. Flight 2-Kathy Montemaggi and Sharon Daniels. We have not had any holes-inone at Del Tura since June. But, for the 10th time, Debbi Overholser had a holein-one, this one at Burnt Store. That is very impressive record! Our Association celebrated the Holiday Season with a luncheon at Magnolia December 14th. Birdie and Hole-in-One pins were distributed at that time. We also had the installation of new officers for 2018. They are: President-Paula Lafrienere Vice-President-Peggy Deems Treasurer-Sherry Leverre and Secretary-Birdie Dugo. Harvey Penick has been quoted as saying that “Golf has kept more people sane than psychiatrists have”. So, remember, the next time you play, that these are acts of sanity you are witnessing! A very happy 2018!
Take Me Out to the Ball Game
10/18
Please come on out to Carmelita field in Punta Gorda at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, January 3rd to cheer on our Del Tura Amigos Softball team for their first game, and then join on each Monday and Wednesday thru March 21 as they strive to bring home 1st place to Del Tura! Each game starts at 5:30 pm and the opponents are neighborhood communities that we all know – Herons Glen, Lake Fairways, and Tara Woods are some of the competition! Let’s be
sure that Del Tura has the biggest and loudest cheering section and that our team hears us loud and clear. All games start at 5:30 pm and are located at Carmelita Field in Punta Gorda. The final schedule is being approved as we write this article, and will be posted on the Softball Bulletin Board by the time you read this article. Be sure to stop by, pick up the directions to the field, and come on out and cheer the guys on! If you have
questions about the team please direct them to Coach Stan Young at 239-731-3142. If you need a ride to the game, or are looking to carpool, please contact Pam Price at 239-567-7929. The fundraiser for the Amigos will be on Saturday, February 17, 2018. Tickets will be on sale at morning coffee, or available from team players. The support of the community at both the games and fundraiser is appreciated by the Amigos!

Thanks to all who helped make the Parade special. It’s truly a Del Tura tradition with spectacular lights and tons of creative imagination.
