items and create more useable space. If you or your organization has items stored in these units and you were not part of the late January meeting, please be aware that you have until March 16th to make a decision regarding the future of your materials. This does not include the storage trailer used for FISH medical assistance. On March 19th, a systematic cleaning of each of the three closets will begin with outdated, unused, or unclaimed items being eliminated. The closets are simply becoming over filled, creating a safety hazard and making navigation within each room very difficult. Additionally many organizations are encroaching on space allocated for others. Dave Adams HOA President

trip you’re planning, a new item you need, or simply a night on the town. Remember to mark your home with a sign or balloons etc, so you get plenty of visitors. As everyone knows, this is the time of year when things here in Florida get rather dry and the threat of fire is at its peak. With that in mind, just a reminder to put out those cigarette butts completely. And please don’t toss them from your golf cart without making sure they are completely extinguished. Failure to do so can result in a brush fire that grows into something considerably more dangerous. An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure! One final quick note…….A concerted effort is underway to clean the three storage facility closets located at Lot “A” on Las Palmas. The primary purpose is to eliminate outdated or unused

Wow! What a great first two months of the year! We had The Beatles, A Night at the Races, our annual Valentine’s Dance, a hilarious play entitled “Assisted Living” and four wonderful nights of “Baggage” from our own Jacqueline Keen and our talented Del Tura Repertory Company. Additionally, the weather is really starting to warm up, and all of our clubs and activities are now in full swing. There’s literally something for everyone, even if you just want to relax and hang by one of our FIVE pools and spas each day. It doesn’t get any better. March promises to be equally busy with still more to do, including our annual Del Tura Yard Sale on March 10th from 9AM to 1PM. It’s a great chance for you to clean out your spare rooms or garage and make a little money for that

FISH News By Ginnie Benjamins Last month I listed the names of FISH members who had contributed their time to assist Del Tura residents and I missed two names of the list. Please accept my apology Susan Bell and Mary Harrell. Our volunteers drive residents to the their appointments; pick fruit; deliver medical equipment, call on birthdays; send cards when you are ill; deliver meals if you have been hospitalized; make sure a basket of fruit is given if you have had a death in your home. We are happy to do these

things but we do need to be notified if you need our help. Please call the FISH number (997-3474) to let us know. Please call for yourself or even your neighbor if assistance is needed. Our Over 90’s Luncheon was held on Tuesday, February 27 at Heron’s Glen’s restaurant. We had 41 residents who have or will reach 90 this year. Joining this group are two ladies who have reach the century mark. Each person, who was being honored, brought a guest of their choosing with him or her to the luncheon. We had over one hundred people

attending. I will have more news about the luncheon next month. Remember; call us if you need assistance. Happy Saint Patrick Day!

Reflections

*All attendees will Would You like To Take receive a 4/5 STar VacaTionS aT deeplY

“We don’t meet people by accident. They are meant to cross our path for a reason.” All through our lives we meet people that we call friends. Some friendships are mere acquaintances and last for brief periods of time. Others last for months, even years. Many of these friendships, whether brief or lifelong, find their way into our hearts leaving lasting imprints that we will carry with us through this journey of life. Friends, whether old or new, may have different reasons for entering our lives and will leave us with an understanding of what a true friendship is. Some will be there to help us celebrate the good times of our lives and some will teach us how to cope with the sad and challenging times as well. As I reflect on my own life I think of some dear friends from my childhood and the gifts of friendship that I received from them. I think I’ll start with Alice. I was nine years old and we had just moved to a new neighborhood in an unfamiliar part of the city. New school, new neighborhood, I think many of you know the feel-

ing! Well let’s get back to Alice. Alice was nine, an only child, and as I would quickly find out to be quite outspoken! Being from a family where children very rarely had the nerve to express their thoughts out loud, I found this to be very unusual. I remember the day we met like it was yesterday. Alice lived three houses up from us and as I rode my bike passed her house she yelled, “Hey new girl, watch out for my dog!” God, she was so protective of her dog Spot! We became close friends and stayed close until as adults our paths would take us in different directions. I treasure the many special gifts from our friendship.

Linda, another dear childhood friend of mine, moved into the neighborhood from Connecticut a few years later. This is how she met the precocious Alice. Alice

was up in a tree retrieving something or just maybe because she just decided to inspect one of the birds’ nests…probably the latter. As Linda walked by she heard some rustling and looked up and saw this little scrappy blonde peering down at her. Alice’s response to her, what are you looking at?!! Linda didn’t know what to make of her! They became friends that day and the three of us remained friends into our adulthood. Alice was my Maid of Honor and Linda my Bridesmaid at our wedding. We have been friends for 63 years. Linda and I have remained very close over the years. Unfortunately, Alice passed away three years ago but the memories are forever. Together we shared the many qualities of a true childhood friendship. We learned how to trust and depend on one another. What we shared and learned as children truly gave us the tools needed as adults to support each other during the most difficult times, and allowed us to celebrate the most joyous times of our lives. Those early years were the beginning of a foundation, built with the true qualities of friendship.

Is a Managed Account Right for You?

As an investor, you’ll face many decisions over the years. How much should you invest? Where should you put your money? When is it time to sell some investments and use the proceeds to buy others? Some people enjoy making these choices themselves – but not everyone. Consequently, the type of investor you are will influence your thinking about whether to open a managed account. As its name suggests, a managed account – sometimes known as an “advisory” account – essentially is a portfolio of stocks, bonds and other investments chosen by a professional investment manager who makes the buy and sell decisions. Typically, each managed account has an investment objective based on your goals, and you may have some voice in investment choices – for example, you may be able to request that the manager avoid certain investments. Or, you might still work with a personal financial advisor who can help you identify and quantify your goals, define your risk tolerance, and track changes in your family situation – and who can then use this information to help guide the investment manager’s choices. Beyond this basic structure, managed accounts can vary greatly in terms of administration, reporting, fees and minimum balance. So, assuming you meet the requirements for a managed account, should you consider one? There’s really no one right answer for everyone. But three factors to consider are cost, control and confidence. Cost – Different managed accounts may have different payment arrangements. However, it’s common for a money manger to be paid based on a percentage of assets under management. So, if your manager’s fee is 1% and your portfolio contains $100,000, the manager earns $1,000 per year, but if the value of your portfolio rises to $200,000, the manager earns $2,000. Because the manager has a personal stake in the portfolio’s success, this arrangement could work to your advantage. Be aware, though, that other fees may be associated with your account. Control – With any managed account, you will give up some, or perhaps all, of your power to make buy-and-sell decisions. If you have built a large portfolio, and you’re busy with work and family, you may like the idea of delegating these decisions. And, as mentioned above, you can still oversee the “big picture” by either working through a financial advisor or, at the least, having your goals, risk tolerance and investment preferences dictate a money manager’s decisions. But you will have to decide for yourself how comfortable you are in ceding control of your portfolio’s day-to-day transactions. Confidence – It’s essential that you feel confident in a managed account’s ability to help you meet your goals. And the various elements of a managed account may well give you that assurance. For example, some managed accounts include automatic rebalancing of assets, which, among other things, can help you achieve tax efficiency. Other features of a managed account – such as the experience and track record of the manager – also may bolster your confidence.

Ultimately, you’ll need to weigh all factors before deciding whether a managed account is right for you. In any case, it’s an option worth considering.

Around 100 new homeowners attended the party on January 24, 2018. 26 people were at tables explaining and having people ask about and sign up for community activities. 11 Welcome Committee members helped make the room inviting so the homeowners could meet their new neighbors and learn about the opportunities offered in Del Tura. Fred Taylor, the community manager for

Hometown, and Dave Adams, the HOA president, were introduced. Everyone enjoyed the food and the fellowship. A big thank to all for making the party such a big success! 

NITE AT THE RACES Thank You We have crossed the finish line once again! Thanks to the support and co-operation of the HOA, the diligent work of the twenty eight committee members and wonderful substitutes that filled in where

needed due to illness and to the enthusiastic Del Tura residents who attended, we all crossed the finish line as winners! You all deserve a trophy! We look forward to next year when we once again “ See you at the Races!” The Cousins Susan Savitt and Deb Winsor

Truer words were never spoken. The Dog Park Committee would like to thank Hometown America, Del Tura Management (especially Fred Taylor) for the creation of the Del Tura Dog Park. Also the H.O. A. Board for supporting the Dog Park Committee. In early December after final approval from Lee County,

The Del Tura Dog Park became a reality. The dog park has been the daily stop (sometimes twice a day) for many dog owners and their dogs both large and small. The owners have enjoyed the opportunity to have their dogs socialized and play off leash in a safe fenced in area. Del Tura has provided 4 picnic tables, stands for umbrellas, 2 stands which hold the rolls for

poop bags, poop bags and 2 large garbage cans Umbrellas, chairs, toys, toy baskets, and buckets for water and a water hose have been provided by dog owners showing their appreciation for the Dog Park. Again the Dog Park Committee would like to thank everyone that made the park a reality.

DAVE’S

Del Tura Save Our Strays - SOS Healthy Purrs. . . According to an article written by Kelli Bender in the Death and Taxes magazine, felines are helping us stay healthy through the power of their purrs. The purrs fluctuate from 20 to 140 Hz, a frequency range that has been proven to be medically therapeutic. These purrs help lower stress and blood pressure. Studies show that cat owners are about 40% less likely to have a heart attack than those without cats. Purrs have also been shown to cut the healing time of infections, broken

bones and muscle injuries. So, next time you’re aching, skip the hot pad and put a happy cat on the spot in need.

Medals were awarded as follows:

Thank you to Dick Rose for organizing and hosting this tournament and providing the medals and balls used for play. Also to Justin Moore, Larry Moore and Pat Roush for their assistance in recording and tallying the scores and help in general. Del Tura Bowling League Gets Even Stronger

by Glenn Tointon

The Del Tura bowling league at Bowland in Cape Coral grew this year from six teams to eight teams and may expand to ten teams next year because of so much interest. If you think you may be interested in becoming a part of this very enjoyable league, let Dave Csuy or Glenn Tointon know. Our individual league averages are from 111 to 178. We have one major goal and that is to “have fun”! We are now half way through our season and

there are still four teams fighting for first place! At this writing, Romper room, made up of Cindy Baron, Jeff Meehan, Joan Whaley, and Geoff Wilhite are in first place with fifty wins. Tied with them are the Del

Tones who enjoy the powerful bowling of Ken Baron, Millie Hanrahan (AKA Sweetie!), Barry Plisch, and MaryKay Tointon. Individual high averages are as follows: Men: Chuck Hokey 178, Paul Smith 175, Jerry Sadowski 170 Women: Denise Rose 174, MaryKay Tointon 153, Diane Smith 151 High Handicap series are as follows: Men: Chuck Hokey 725, Paul Smith 684, Jeff Meehan 677 Women: Marianela Tamayo 704, Denise Rose 675, MaryKay Tointon 674

Traveling Shuffleboard Team Enjoying Success

by Glenn Tointon

Half way through our season, Del Tura is enjoying their third place in the seven team league. As always, Lake Arrowhead and Laurel Estates are the top two teams as they have little else offered in their communities. In the dual meets our two losses were to Lake Arrowhead 10-20 and Lake Fairways 11-19. Both losses were at their courts. We defeated Laurel Estates 17-13, Six Lakes 1713, Windmill Village 18-12, and Herons Glen 20-10. As of today we have a few players winning big. Bob Crawford is having his best year with a

15-3 record. Way to go Bob! Judy Lessard at 13-5, Janey Reinen at 8-4, and MaryKay Tointon at 11-7 are also having a great year. Joining our team are newcomers Bob and Darlene Brinker, Chris Brylski, and Dennis Major, who are all having good first year play. Rounding out our team is Glenn Tointon, Diana Camp, Donna Crawford, Marlene Eck, and Caroline Brueggemann. All have done a great job. Between unfavorable matchups and a few controversial calls their records aren’t as strong as they will be by season’s end. Next year my goal is to start a “rookie” league to prepare shufflers

to join the team as they improve. If I get this off the ground, it will be for beginners and those who may or may not know the game and want to learn good techniques to make them great players. Shuffleboard is for everyone at all ages. Today in many states and Canada there are teams for kids of all ages through adults in their ninety’s. If you want more information on this league check back this spring. And last, may all of us keep remembering why we are here; to enjoy life, to have fun, and maybe to relax, so getting involved while we can is so important.

Remodeling ~ Kitchens and Baths Vinyl and Stucco Siding Plumbing ~ Water Softeners, Heaters, Faucets Repipes, Toilets, Sinks, Etc.

I am writing this on Friday, Feb. 2nd, after today’s games because the articles for the next month’s Towers have to be in by the 9th of the month & the 9th this month falls on Friday so I am writing today rather than next Friday as I don’t want to miss the deadline. We had a beautiful day to play again today as the sun was nice & warm & the temperature had been close to the 80-degree mark. This is my kind of Winter as we have had our share of cold mornings as well as cold days. Temperatures like today are why we are all down here in beautiful Del-Tura & SWF. I am assuming is true for all of us. Who wants to be sitting up in the upper Midwest or New England with the weather & temperatures they are having while we are enjoying ours down here? I don’t think I’ll get many arguments on that one. Anyhow, let’s talk about shuffleboard. We enjoyed playing week-11 today, which leaves just 6 more weeks of regular play as of today’s writing. By the time you get to read this we will be down to

just 3-weeks to play. After today’s games, the standings are as follows. In the “A-Flight”, The 1st. place leaders are Ben Hargraves/ Janet Blevons with a 28/5 record. They are followed by Glenn/Mary Kay Tointon, 1-game behind at 27/6 & they are followed by Bob/ Donna Crawford at 22/11. The “B-Flight” leaders are Curt King/ Marcella Carothers in 1st. place

with a 19/14 record, followed by Kathy Boesel/Mary Pimental at 17/16 & then the teams of Doris Thurber/Marlene Eck and Bob/ Denises Palazzo tied for 3rd. place with 15/18 records. Both leagues are tight with 6-weeks ( 18-games ) left to play so the season is far from over.

Also in March, at the end of our season, will be our Annual 8-Team Tournament in which the teams finishing in the top 4 standings of each Flight will compete for more trophies to be awarded to the top-3- finishers. This tournament is a double-elimination tournament meaning if you lose one game then you still can compete for the 3rd. place trophy against other teams who have lost one game. To win the Championship Trophy you need to win all 3 of your games without a defeat. That Tournament will be held on Friday March 23rd & then the following Friday, March 30th, we will be having our 14th Annual Bust-Up Party which will be held in the Royal Palm Ballroom in our Clubhouse. Along with the good food & camaraderie & picture taking while we present the 18-individual trophies to the winners, we will enjoy one last get together for the season, with all our league members & substitutes who are welcome to come. There will be information & a sign-up sheet posted this month, Fridays down on our shack down at the courts.

SPORTS 18-Hole Women’s Association by Carol Marra We completed our President’s Cup on February 1st. It was four rounds of Match Play. The Winners are: Flight 1: Debbi Overholser Flight 2: Ann DeGrande Flight 3: Liz Flanagan Flight 4: Sandy Vassallo. Both Debbi and Ann had to go 19 holes to win. Some tough competition and impressive playing. Congratulations to all these ladies! (In attached photo, left to right are Sandy, Ann, Debbi and Liz) The Month of February also included the Valentine’s Tournament sponsored by our Association and The Divorce Open sponsored by the Pro Shop. Hopefully, no hearts were broken and

no legal papers were drawn up! In addition, we have lessons available from Ryan and Friday night Scrambles. LEGA and Invitationals are going on right now. They are posted in the Dungeon. These are golf events held outside of Del Tura. We organize car pools to the various courses. Lunch is always included. Prizes for LEGA are based on individual scores while Invitationals are team events. It is an enjoyable way to try another course and meet new people. If you are new to Del Tura: We are always looking for new members. Our membership chairperson is Kay Rolader. You can contact Kay at 292-4964 if you are interested in joining. She has all

the information and can answer your questions. Two holes-in-one and on two of our longer par 3s. Paula LaFreniere had a hole-in-one on 2 South during the President’s Cup. This was Paula’s 7th hole-in-one! Betty Ferazzi added to her holein-one on 9 North by getting one on 8 North on January 8th. Well done! In 1783 Rule II of the Society of Golfers at Aberdeen stated: “While a Stroke is playing none of the Party shall walk about, make any motion or attempt to take off the Player’s attention, by speaking or otherwise.” In today’s language what does this mean? Stand still while I am putting! Thank you!!

Thursday Night Bingo By Jack Blevons Writing this on Friday Feb. 2nd, I am happy to report that attendance last night really did a big upturn. For the first time, we had over a 100-people attending, 103 to be exact & with those numbers, our pay-outs also got bigger & better, especially if you had to be one of the many lucky winners. More people attending & making more people happy winning more money, makes all the work of your bingo committee & the rest of the volunteers that help Janet & myself set up, run & then stay to put everything away every Thursday feel all the work is worthwhile. Hopefully the trend in the attendance will continue & even get bigger because it doesn’t take any more work to run bingo for 150 people than it does for 50. Doors open for ticket sales at 6:00 & we close selling at 6:45 which gives us time to calculate prize money so we can start playing

promptly at 7:00. We are normally done playing between 9:15 & 9:30 so it isn’t a long, drawn-out night & everyone gets back home at a reasonable hour. The minimum it costs you to play is $6 & then those who want to spend more for more chances to win, along with playing the Specials that pay out really big pay-outs & also our Share the Wealth raffles & extra Hot-ball tickets , will cost you a few additional dollars if you feel like spending more. Just need to add, you have to be at least 18 years old & we do not allow liquor or alcohol to be brought in to the bingo hall. We do have

soda available to buy while we play. We will be playing bingo through March 30th which will be the last night until the new season starts again either in late October or early November. So, come on up to Thursday bingo & maybe go home with a lot more money than you came with. We simplified all the games so it’s not only a lot more fun playing but also a lot easier to play & follow the games as well. We took your advice & got rid of all those games that were so difficult to follow & play. The more people who come, the more fun that is had.

I felt like my body had gotten totally out of shape, so I got my doctor’s permission to join a fitness club and start exercising. I decided to take an aerobics class for seniors. I bent, twisted, gyrated, jumped up and down, and perspired for an hour. But, by the time I got my leotards on, the class was over.
