From the President’s Desk It’s hard to believe we have approached the end of another “season” here at Del Tura. I continue to be amazed at the wonderful things that happen from day to day and week to week. There are so many terrific activities and events and many have held tournaments and banquets to celebrate the good times and success. But the coming of summer doesn’t mean things totally shut down. In fact, it’s quite the opposite! Bette Ewing Cheney and her Entertainment Committee have some great activities planned for us. The golf course is still operating in full swing, and the pools are still here for us to enjoy on a daily basis. Make sure to check the calendars and articles in The Tower regarding all the different events
that will be offered. There’s still plenty to keep us all busy. If you are among our seasonal family members who are heading north, or if you are planning an extended vacation, make sure you make arrangements to have your home watched while you are away. Find a person you truly trust, and ask him or her to check inside your house periodically to make sure your air conditioning, etc is functioning properly. Don’t take chances with our summer heat and humidity. It can really wreak havoc on your home. And as always, please remain vigilant and keep a watchful eye at all times. When we all help each other, our Del Tura family is strong. And as we enter the summer visiting season, please remember
to be careful and obey the laws with your golf cart. Drivers must be licensed and at least sixteen years of age. Finally, I have one last request. If you stop by the HOA office to visit or for business, please try to park in the office driveway or in the lot across the street. Please don’t park on the street in front or up on the sidewalk. The street in front of the office is rather narrow and if you park your car there or slide onto the sidewalk, it makes it very difficult for either autos or walkers to get by. That’s it for me this month everyone. Here’s hoping you all have a lot of “fun in the sun”. From my vantage point it’s just another day in paradise! Dave Adams, HOA President

Insurance company, “Amex Assurance” in Phoenix, Arizona. 4. Marriage and family that you wish to share about? I met my husband, Joe in 1980, when he was visiting his family. I knew from the moment I saw him I was going to marry him, he didn’t know that but I did. We were introduced by his family they had also knew I would marry him. We married in 1984 in Port Charlotte, Florida and purchased our first home in Cape Coral, Florida that same year. In 1987 we had a beautiful girl, and in 1988 a handsome son, both children were born in Lee Memorial Hospital. In 1990 we moved to Stockbridge, Georgia. We decided in 1995 to move to Phoenix, Arizona where we retired in 2014. Our son graduated from Arizona State University and moved to West Hollywood,California to follow his dreams. Our daughter and granddaughter had moved to Cape Coral in 2010. We made the decision to move back to Cape Coral in 2014. 5. When did you first move to Florida? We moved to East Fort Myers in 1981 after a friend who lived there stated, “the place was made for us”. Taking his word for it we moved from New Jersey to Florida. He was right ---We absolutely loved it. 6. How did you discovered Del Tura Country Club? Actually my father-in-law found Del Tura in 1985 when he was looking for a winter place in Florida. We came with him to check it out and wished we were old enough to live here. He bought in Haines City to be closer to Disney but we did not forget about Del Tura and now we just love living in this community! 7. When did you move to Del Tura? We moved here in August 2016.
8. What position do you have on the HOA Board? I am HOA Secretary and my term is for 3 years, 2017-2020. 9. What motivates you want to spend so much time and energy in service to our community? I like to be involved in my community and everything going on where I live. I have a serving soul that truly enjoys helping others. I also believe in learning and growing which is what happens when you get involved. 10. Do you have activities here in Del Tura that you enjoy doing--outside of the areas that you volunteer in? other hobbies and things of interest? I love that Del Tura Golf and Country Club is a very active community. I work part-time outside the community. I am currently enjoying taking my dog for rides in the golf cart! In the future I plan to try ceramics. I also just purchased my first set of golf clubs and have plans to take lessons. I enjoy reading and am thankful for our wonderful library. I also have fun researching on “Ancestry” on-line. I was so happy to find several cousins through “Ancestry”. We also enjoy getting away in our RV especially going to the mountains in the summer to get out of Florida’s heat and humidity! If you have not met Michelle yet I encourage you to introduce yourself to her at COFFEE HOUR on Tuesday mornings or maybe you will run into her and her doggie during one of her golf cart outings. I want to take this opportunity on behalf of all our neighbors to express to you, Michelle, our appreciation for your service to the DEL TURA COMMUNITY and for the fact that you love living here. Go girl!

By Sue Dunigan MICHELLE GALLO 127 Las Palmas Blvd It is always a joy for me to get acquainted with my neighbors and to be able to introduce them to you through The Tower. It is a particularly interesting to get to know those who chose to serve our community as volunteers in so many different areas of our community life. Michelle has recently agreed to serve on the HOA board which all of you who have served on community boards understand the commitment she is making to help our community live up to its full potential and to help make life here better for all of us. Michelle’s background brings strength to the board and her personality and caring heart is a real bonus. I hope you enjoy the Q&A interview with her below as much as I have had fun preparing it for you to read. 1. When and where were you born? I was born in North Newark, New Jersey. We lived there until I was 13. We then moved “down the shore” to Ocean Township where I attended High school and enjoyed my adolescent years there. 2. Schooling? Degrees? After graduating from High School, I attend community college studying retail management and marketing. 3. Your Career? I worked in retail for six years, then moved to banking, followed by a career in the airline industry and hung on during the 9/11 terrorist attack which grounded all airlines but we were able to recover and move on through all the changes and challenges that followed. I was able to retire in 2006. I then worked for “American Express” in Phoenix. First in the Fraud Department then as a claims adjuster for their

by German intelligence waits to identify the resistance fighters who were guiding the pilots to freedom, sending them to torture and certain execution. What is so appealing about Furst’s novels is that he is scrupulous in detail, tone, and description. He seems to perfectly capture the drama of individuals fighting against tyranny at a time when the United States stood on the sidelines swayed by “American Firsters and isolationists”. Much of the Second World War was fought before our country was attacked. The story of the resistance across Europe during this period, told in a fictional narrative, is well worth reading and highly entertaining as well.

Review by Bill Woods, 2242 Del Mar If there is a distinction among spy novelists it is often in the meticulous research that they conduct before setting pen to paper. An American historical spy novelist, Alan Furst, has set the bar far higher than most writers who seek to entertain their audiences with fast-paced action and exotic locales. In his series of “Night Soldier” novels, Furst takes the reader to a period few Americans read about. He leads us back to the years before the United States entered the Second World War, when war raged across Europe and the Far East. His historical canvas is Western, Central, and Eastern Europe either shortly before the German military victories and occupation or during the occupation period itself. Furst has authored fourteen novels covering this period, roughly 1938-1942. His principle characters are men and women who put their lives at risk daily to
undermine the Nazi regime with the goal of liberating their countries. Many of the novels center on organized resistance to the Nazis but some tell the story of lonely but courageous individuals who chose to fight against what seemed at the time to be an invincible foe. The latest book in the series, A Hero of France, tells the tale of men and women, mostly French, who attempt to rescue pilots shot down over Germany, moving them slowly but surely through occupied France to neutral Spain from which the British were able to extract them and return them to their combat roles in the Royal Air Force. The British stood alone against Germany in 1941 until the Soviet Union was invaded and had been at war for over two years. Pilots could not be trained fast enough to man the air defenses of the British Isles. The story includes the attempt to rescue British, Canadian, and Polish pilots who were hunted relentlessly by the Gestapo, never knowing for sure who could be trusted. There are times in Furst’s novels when the reader is almost reluctant to turn the page not knowing if a traitor recruited

FISH News Sue is FISH’s extraordinary saleswoman. The following week Sue’s next act was to wear a bright orange wig and a blue tutu. I believe she sold seven books that Tuesday. (If you missed her, please tune into Del Tura’s web site and check out Tuesday morning.) You can see her picture on this page. I was sorry to miss April third’s sales pitch. Can You Free Yourself Of Some Investment-Related Taxes? Tax Freedom Day generally falls around this time each year. This is the day when the nation as a whole has earned enough money to pay off its total tax bill for the year, according to the calculations made by the Tax Foundation. So you may want to use Tax Freedom Day to think about ways you can liberate yourself from some of the investment-related taxes you may incur. Of course, Tax Freedom Day is something of a fiction, in practical terms, because most people pay their taxes throughout the year via payroll deductions. Also, you may not mind paying your share of taxes, because your tax dollars are used in many ways – law enforcement, food safety, road maintenance, public education, and so on – that benefit society. Still, you may be able to reduce those taxes associated with your investments, leaving you more money available to help you work toward your important goals, such as a comfortable retirement. Here are some suggestions for making investing less “taxing”: • Contribute regularly to tax-advantaged retirement plans. Contribute as much as you can afford to your IRA and your 401(k) or other employer-sponsored retirement plan. Traditional IRA earnings grow tax deferred, and your contributions may be tax-deductible, depending on your income. (Taxes will be due upon withdrawal, however, and withdrawals made before you turn 59½ may be subject to a 10% IRS penalty.) Your 401(k) or similar plan also provides the opportunity for tax-deferred earnings growth. Roth IRA contributions are not deductible, but your earnings are distributed tax-free, provided you don’t take withdrawals until you’re 59½ and you’ve had your account at least five years. • Follow a “buy-and-hold” strategy. If you sell investments you’ve owned for less than a year, and their value has increased, you will have to pay capital gains taxes at your personal income tax rate, which, in early 2017, could be as high as 39.6%. But if you hold investments for at least a year before selling them, you’d be assessed the long-term capital gains rate, which tops out at 20%. Be aware, though, that the Trump administration and Congress seem likely to change the tax rates. Early plans call for a maximum personal income tax rate of 33%, with the top rate for capital gains and dividends either staying at 20%, or possibly being reduced to 16.5%. In any case, you’ll still come out ahead, tax-wise, by holding your investments long enough to receive the long-term capital gains rate. • Consider municipal bonds. If you are in one of the higher income brackets, you might benefit from investing in municipal bonds, which are typically used to finance public projects, such as roads, schools, airports and infrastructure-related repairs. Interest payments from “munis” are typically exempt from federal income taxes and may also be exempt from state and local taxes, depending on the state in which the bond issuer is located. Interest payments from some types of municipal bonds may be subject to the alternative minimum tax (AMT). Again, though, watch for developments from Washington, as both the Trump administration and some congressional leaders favor eliminating the AMT. When charting your investment strategy, consider your risk tolerance, time horizon, family situation and estate plans. But investment-related taxes should also be in your strategic mix – so look for opportunities to keep these taxes under control.

Perceptions
By Dianne J. Roderick Last month, in Part One, I wrote about my older brother, the first born child (thought at that time to be an only child) and my position as the middle child and only girl. I had been inspired by a book that I had picked up one summer in a little bookstore in Hyannis, MA. The title of it is, The Birth Order Book written by Dr. Kevin Leman. This month I would like to introduce you to my life with a younger sibling, “the baby of the family”, and how his presence has had an influence on the person I am today. Guess who was blamed? You are correct! How many kids do you know can fall off the same two stairs as many times as he did? Or, how about the times he would get lost in the clothes racks in a store and panic? More times than I can count!

What I didn’t understand then as a six year old was that my big brother was trying to exert his independence, trying to shake his little sister was part of growing up. Guess having your little sister around when you are 12 isn’t the most popular thing to do. What guy wanted their little sister around or any girl for that matter at that age? I must admit I was feeling a little neglected. No, change that! I was moping around feeling pretty lonely. Then something big happened! A new unexpected bundle of joy entered our lives, the youngest child-the baby. I remember wanting a sister so desperately and telling Dad when he called with the news that maybe they had made a mistake. No mistake! I didn’t speak for two days. Then this little boy came home and captured my heart from day one, as I had captured my big brother’s heart years before. Suddenly I was the big sister and along with that title came many responsibilities that I wasn’t prepared for. This little charmer wasn’t going to make life easy for anyone, especially me. Let me just say that there were many times I would have sold him for a bag of chips and a soda…Only kidding…Maybe. To say that my little brother was spoiled as a child would be an understatement! He was certainly coddled by the whole family and often got his way on many occasions. Quite the character, indeed! I could write a novel about the adventures of life with my little brother. This was a kid that would find clever, sometimes very humorous ways to avoid his responsibilities. Clever and humorous for him, exasperating for me! He certainly lived up to his youngest child traits! Charming and very precocious he had the ability to get in and out of things that I thought were impossible! Of course, his many failed shenanigans were never his fault.
Many memories of him testing my patience go back to when he was in elementary school and I was across the street at the junior high. Mom and Dad left very early for work and it was my responsibility to get him off to school each day. He was a master at finding ways to avoid going to school. Some mornings he would lose a shoe, mysteriously lose a button from his shirt, or even arrange for the parakeet to be out of its cage flying frantically from room to room. You name it he did it! We lived less than a block from the school and I was late every day. He made life very interesting, or would the better word be challenging? We won’t even mention, or maybe we will, the time he took his pet hamster out of the cage and let it loose in the car. My mother was driving and until this day I don’t know how she didn’t lose control. All we heard was a loud scream as she slammed the car to a stop. My “kid brother” continued to be my shadow through my teen years and there were many memorable times indeed! I swear his name should have been Dennis! I often wondered if Hank Ketcham knew my brother when he wrote that comic strip. He was certainly as mischievous as that character! I definitely wouldn’t change the real Dennis for the world! As I reflect back to those times with my two brothers I find the many situations that didn’t seem so funny back then are the ones that bring us the good feelings and laughter we enjoy each time we get together and reminisce. The craziness of our youth brought us the best family memories! Being the middle child between these two guys was like the best of both worlds. Siblings, you just gotta love them!

I have been in many places, but I’ve never been in Kahoots. Apparently, you can’t go alone. You have to be in Kahoots with someone. I’ve also never been in Cognito. I hear no one recognizes you there. I have, however, been in Sane. They don’t have an airport, you have to be driven there. I have made several trips there, thanks to my children, friends, family and work. I would like to go to Conclusions, but you have to jump, and I’m not too much on physical activity anymore.
I have also been in Doubt. That is a sad place to go, and I try not to visit there too often. I’ve been in Flexible, but only when it was very important to stand firm. Sometimes I’m in Capable, and I go there more often as I’m getting older. One of my favorite places to be is in Suspense! It really gets the adrenalin flowing and pumps up the old heart! At my age I need all the stimuli I can get! I may have been in Continent, and I don’t remember what country I was in. It’s an age thing. They tell me it is very wet and damp there.
Life is too short for negative drama and petty things. So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

All About Food Zotter Chocolates
Reviewed by Michael Johnson 5408 Via Estrella This may or may not qualify as a Restaurant Review, but, it certainly involves eating. Recently, I read about a small chocolate manufacturer here in southwest Florida. Not only on southwest Florida, but right next door in Cape Coral. And, no wonderful meal is complete without a wonderful dessert. Therefore, I believe this qualifies as a Restaurant Review.
So,being a lover of chocolate and specifically, very good chocolate, I thought I’d make a visit. Boy Oh Boy! While Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups will always hold a special place in my heart, I’ve been transformed into a Chocolate Foodie by Zotter Chocolates US LLC! The “store” is located at 1020 NE Pine Island Rd., #302 Cape Coral, Florida. If you take Route 41 south to the stop light at Del Prado and then make a right onto
Del Prado, you will pass McDonald’s on your left...The next right is Kismet. Make a left at the Dollar Store and continue on to Pine Island Road, make a left, get into the right lane and pull into 1020 NE Pine Island Rd. Shortly, if you love chocolate, you’ll be in heaven! From the outside, you’d think, this can’t be it”. But, it is ! Hours are Monday-Friday 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.-Yes, that’s right, and, Saturday 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Walk in the door and you are greeted by displays of candy bars on rack after rack. Mr Zotter produces over 170 different varieties of candy bars. There are samples galore and sales occasionally. This is CHOCOLATE ART! Award-winning Chocolate Art, Bean to Bar and, Fair Trade, ORGANIC. There are chocolate bars with strawberry centers, there are chocolate bars with pistachio marzipan, there are chocolate bars

with Firewood Brandy fillings.... (I sampled a piece of this one---Biting into the piece, I first tasted only delicious chocolate THEN BOOM! I tasted the Firewood Brandy; delicious times 10!). Apparently, this is the ONLY location in the US. They ship all over the states from here and customers “demanded” Mr. Zotter make his candy available in a retail outlet and thankfully, he listened. There is a website available at www.zotterusa.com,where you can read the entire story of Mr. Zotter and his accomplishments in the chocolate industry. You will also be able to order online and view all the varieties of chocolate bars available. There is also “drinkable chocolate”,Dark Chocolate and VERY dark chocolate. Beans
from Peru Belieze,Madagascar and Columbia,Ecuador as well. You can purchase a 100% bar of Peru chocolate and one of 100% Ecuador and taste the difference. For those of you who enjoy PURE chocolate, you’ll LOVE the varieties available here. Believe me, if you love chocolate, you’ll visit this location again and again. So, while you won’t find a delicious meal here you WILL find a VERY delicious dessert, and, no meal is complete without desert. When you see me driving my Little Yellow Taxi, stop me and tell me how much you enjoy the Zotter Chocolate experience. Believe me, you will ! Prices are generally $5.95 per bar, and, occasionally there are varieties available at 50% off ENJOY.

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cut the crusts off your bread and roll each slice flat with a rolling pin. Combine cinnamon and sugar on a small plate. Pour the apple pie filling onto a plate and chop it. Put about 2 tablespoons apple pie filling on each slice of bread and roll up. Dip each piece into melted butter (I poured a tiny bit of butter into a “butter dish” and just rolled in there) and then into the cinnamon sugar. Place seam side down on a parchment lined pan and bake 15 minutes or until browned and crispy. Serve warm. By Dave Adams “A Scandalously Good Restaurant” In the event you don’t know the story. Shoeless Joe Jackson was a professional baseball player who played for three different teams during his career at the beginning of the 20th century. With a lifetime batting average of .356, both Babe Ruth and Ty Cobb called him the greatest natural hitter they had ever seen. However Jackson is probably most famous for his implication in the 1919 World Series Scandal when he was accused of conspiring with seven members of the Chicago White Sox to throw the series. While a jury eventually acquitted him, baseball Commissioner Kenesaw Mountain Landis went against the ruling and banned Jackson and the other seven for life. Nevertheless, he has become the stuff of legends. Located on Bell Tower Drive in Fort Myers as part of the Crown Plaza Hotel, is a charming and fun restaurant that bears the name “Shoeless Joe’s Sports Cafe.” Step inside and you’ll find an eclectric decor that harkens to the era with all types of baseball memorabilia as well as large screen TV’s that contain a myriad of sports shows.
But obviously, the main attraction here is the food. It’s really good and very reasonably priced. And there’s something for all tastes. Their dinner menu is quite comprehensive with many more offerings than space for this article. However as an example, appetizers include several different types of shrimp, burger sliders, potato skins, loaded fries, onion rings, cheese quesadillas and much more. Select salad and/or soup and then dive into their main menu that includes pizza, sandwiches and burgers as well as a variety of full course offerings such as a super New York Strip steak, Blackened
Chicken Alfredo, Salmon, Florida Mahi and Friday night “all you can eat” Fish and Chips. There is also a nice “kiddies menu” with enough choices to please any little slugger. There is also a separate lunch menu offering a variety of items to get you through the middle of the day. Top it all off with several fabulous dessert offerings that feature more than enough for two to share. Of course they also features a well stocked bar, dozens of beer choic-
es, and the usual variety of soft drinks, iced tea etc. The night we went there, I enjoyed some of the best fish and chips I’ve ever eaten, and my wife said the salmon was excellent. Our dessert was huge and we had trouble finishing it due to the portion size. There are several Shoeless Joe’s restaurants throughout the Unites States, but don’t let that fool you. This local restaurant does not give you that feeling you often get when you visit similar “chain” establishments. It’s friendly and full of fun. One word of advice however.. If you’re looking for something quiet and romantic, this might not be the place for you. It’s an “energized” establishment full of folks out to enjoy a fun dinner with friends and neighbors. Due to the popularity of Shoeless Joes, during the current season there is usually a wait during peak dining hours, so go early or plan to dine late and I suspect you’ll have considerably more luck. Or simply have a drink or two while you wait for a table to come open.

Del Tura’s Dave Lane: An American Professional Soldier By John Brassem We realize – or should realize -- that Del Tura has more than its fair share of military veterans; some having served in combat; some having directly contributed to the security of the United States and others having made the world a safer place to live. For those non-veteran members, I view Dave’s military career as a prototypical example what most American professional soldiers go through to fulfill their military obligation. Dave’s 20-year career may or may not - be like any of these but, in numerous ways, is just as important. Dave grew up in North Brookfield, Mass. After graduating from high school in 1954, he enlisted in the United States Air Force. He was an 18-year old ‘kid’, (an‘Airman Basic’in the USAF vernacular), on his way to Sampson Air Force Base, (NY State), for four months of basic military training. This would be the first of his many world-wide stops. From there he proceeded to F.E. Warren AFB, (Cheyenne, WY), where he learned the technical aspects of repairing global Air Force communication equipment. There’s little doubt, that the ‘kid’ was on his way to becoming a valuable member of the USAF and its critical, sometimes secret, global satellite systems. Completing his training in 1955, he was assigned to his first Permanent Change of Station, (PCS in military jargon), to Westover AFB, in Massachusetts. In 1957, he received another PCS order assigning him to a Royal Air Force, (RAF), Station in Scotland. “My Mom is Scottish”, says Dave, “so she was delighted.” He met his wife Betty in Scotland. (Dave calls her “his Scottish Lass”). (Dear Reader, please remember, during this time, Dave and his Air Force team had the criti-
cal responsibility for maintaining US military communications throughout Europe -- a notable assignment for a 22-year old Airman). In 1961, it was time for yet another PCS assignment this time to Loring AFB near Maine’s northern border. “Other than being very cold”, says Dave, “the thing that warmed my heart was the birth of my son John”. By this time Dave was now a Sargeant First Class. It wouldn’t be too long before David received another PCS assignment for – you guessed it – even colder Norway. Kolsas was a top secret NATO communication station built inside a massive mountain. “The good thing about Norway”, boasted Dave, “was the birth of my beautiful daughter Heather”. Dave was playing an important role in assuring clear USAF military communications at “the top of the world.” Although Sargeant Lane had a chance to catch his breath – he was stationed in Norway for almost five years. Things were getting ‘hot’ in Southeast Asia. Hello Norton Air Force Base, in sunny California, his next PCS assignment. It was just enough time for Dave to catch up on current US communication developments. It was no surprise, of course, that within a year, (1968), Dave received his PCS orders for Ton Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon, South Vietnam. Betty and the kids would go back to North Brookfield. Glad to return from Vietnam, in 1969, Dave reunited with his family and arrived at Wright-Patterson AFB in Dayton Ohio. Due to a lack of housing, Betty and the kids stayed in North Brookfield. (Dear Reader: In the Air Force a short assignment to a Base, other than your PCS station, is called a Temporary Duty – ‘TDY’ for short.) With TDY trips to Sheppard AFB, TX, Vandenburg AFB,
CA and Offutt AFB, NE, among several others, Dave was running up impressive Frequent Flyer Miles. After 3 years at ‘Wright-Pat’, (it’s nick-name), Dave received a one-year PCS assignment to Tuslog Detachment 6, a secret microwave site near Ankara, Turkey. The ‘remote’ assignment was without family. Finally, Dave received his final PCS orders to Hanscom AFB in Bedford, MA. Betty and the kids finally joined him there. After more than 20 years active military duty, Dave retired from the USAF. In his new civilian life, he worked for his Dad’s company and held several positions. Sadly Betty passed away in 1999. Dave moved to Del Tura in 2004 and, as a “Snow Bird”, bought a home here in 2013. Dave is now 81 and has proven that the US military, no matter what job or responsibility, contributes to the well-being of this country. (Ask him to tell you about his views on the military.) There are millions of David Lanes keeping America safe and strong. God bless them all. Dave also takes an active role in the wellbeing of Del Tura as an active member of ‘FISH’ and ‘SHARE THE WEALTH’.

SPORTS 18-Hole Women’s Golf Association By Carol Marra As I write this it is just days from Easter. We have just gotten into April and yet, with the holiday coming up, it feels like time is flying by. I hope you all had a wonderful Easter and everyone got the best chocolate bunny ever. (Did you eat the ears first?) April 1 was Superintendent’s Revenge and 120 of us suffered some of the most difficult pin placements we have ever seen. Forget 1, 2, 3. There were cliffhangers on almost every hole. Scott also threatened to make us all hit from the blues but, luckily, that was just his April fool joke on us. Afterwards, we had a cook out in the courtyard. There will not be another tournament in April
but May 1 will be The World’s Largest Golf Outing sponsored by Billy Casper Golf and ESPN. The money raised is for two Military Charities: Fisher House and Arnie’s Army. Our Association started a new tradition with a farewell luncheon after our Thursday golf on March 31. This year it was held at Sable Springs. Our luncheon was organized by Glenda Oliver and Betty Ferazzi. Nice job, ladies. If you are new to Del Tura: We are always looking for new members. Our membership chairperson is Micki Sullivan. You can contact Micki at 567-2975 if you are interested in joining. She has all the information and can answer your questions.
LEGA and Invitationals are posted in the Dungeon. These are golf events held outside of Del Tura. We organize car pools to the various courses. Lunch is always included. Prizes for LEGA are based on individual scores while Invitationals are team events. It is an enjoyable way to try another course and meet new people. Some of our ladies went to Pelican Preserve on April 25th for a golf competition. It is limited to those with lower handicaps, mostly A and B players qualify. This is a regulation course which offers a few more challenges than we experience at Del Tura. Now, you think you have seen every cruel thing golf officials
can do but at the ANA Inspiration Tournament Lexi Thompson became the victim of their latest ruling. She marked her ball on the 17th hole on Saturday and when she placed the ball back on the green Lexi put it in the wrong place. Just imagine that you mark the ball on the side to be out of someone’s way and then when replacing your ball you put it in front of your marker. We have probably all done it, not trying to cheat, we just forgot. Well, when a viewer let the tournament know about this and they reviewed the video footage she received a 2 stroke penalty for that and 2 more for signing an incorrect card! Lexi was informed of all this on Sunday as she was about to play the
13th hole. A day later and in the middle of her game! And, by the way, she was leading the tournament at the time. Lexi ended up losing the tournament in a one hole play off to So Yeon Ryu. I know some viewers want to be part of the action, but if the officials right there did not see it should the golfer be penalized? Steve and I are going on a River Boat Cruise in June and then heading to Rochester, New York for a few weeks. Please help me; have lots of hole-in-ones while we are gone, some great chip-ins and stories of courses you have visited. Everyone have a wonderful summer!

The Member-Member Tournament was held April 5th& 6th. We had 56 women participating in this fun event. The only rain shower in months delayed the play on the 2nd day – but we were able to finish the tournament on time. The winners of the “Best
Costume” trophy are Susan Belpulsi and Linda Furlong. The Tournament winners for the 3 Flights are: Flight 1 Karen Brennan & Pat Beccarea Flight 2 Nancy Ashe & Francine Murray, Flight 3 Cindy Baron & Sue Symes Our General Meeting was held on April 6. It was a busy meeting, with these highlights: The Membership of the DTNHWGA is currently 102 ladies. We approved a new DTNHWGA shirt. Nancy Moyer put in a great effort to find a very attractive and affordable shirt. In the interest of speeding up the pace of play, the League voted to treat the North Course Out-ofBounds Markers as Lateral Hazard Markers. For League Play you do not have to return to where
your last shot was played. You can drop within 2 club lengths of (no nearer the hole), where the ball crossed the margin of Out-ofBounds. Marcia Hinchberger retired as Tournament Chair. The League is very appreciative of all the work Marcia has done for us over the past seven years. Debbie Taylor will assume the Tournament Chair responsibilities. Finally, the following Officers were elected: President: Justine Fitzgibbons (returning) Vice President: Debby Taylor (returning) Treasurer: Lucy Schaefer (Replacing Sue Maginn) Secretary: Dorothy Cook (replacing Linda Sadowski) Justine appointed Anne Stevens as Social Committee CoChair with Mary Ann Light, and Kathy Klein as Membership CoChair with Marlene DeGraaf. She also thanked the outgoing Officers for their support over the last few years.

SPORTS Traveling Shuffleboard Team Update By Glenn Tointon After our best finish yet for our Traveling Shuffleboard team (third), we entered the end of year fun day tournament with high hopes but when the day was over let’s just say we had fun! Three of our players did very well. MaryKay Tointon won four and lost one as did Glenn Tointon. Janet Reinen went three and two. We were missing three key players however with MaryLou and Leon Buss, and Diana Camp all having previous commitments, but Gail and Ben Hargrave did a great job subbing for them. This year we also put together a “presidents team” made up of players from all the parks. Del Tura players Glenn Camp, Marlene Eck, and Dave Lane played on this team doing quite well. Our day ended with a nice luncheon put together by Lake
Fairways. I was again nominated for president and accepted the position. Next year we are adding one more team. If another park doesn’t join us I am hoping Del Tura steps up and adds a second team from here. As of now we have seven players interested and would like to get five more to join. If you like to play but need improvement, no problem. We will help you get better! Also, if you are year round residents there is open shuffleboard every Monday, Wednesday, and Saturday from 9-10:30 a.m. This is strictly a fun group made up of players from all parks who enjoy playing year round. What a great way to learn technique AND have fun. Marlene Eck can help familiarize yourself with the county courts. Just give her a call. (239) 543-9249.

Save Our Strays 4th Annual Cat’s Pajamas Fundraiser The 4th annual Cat’s Pajamas Fundraiser held on March 11, 2017, to benefit Save Our Strays, was a huge success. We sold 149 tickets and served a delicious dinner and dessert to all who attended. In addition, we had both a silent auction and a bidding auction and held a 50/50 drawing. The support of the SOS program here in Del Tura has been overwhelming and we THANK you all so much. This event would not have been as successful or as profitable without the support and contributions of the many wonderful vendors and volunteers who helped both behind the scenes and up front at the event. Our thanks to the businesses and individuals that donated items for the bidding auction: Jim and Theresa Hiatt of Hiatt Aviation – A guided aviation tour of SW Florida areas. Magnolia Landing Golf Club – Two 18-hole foursomes of golf. Carol Burnison – Two beautiful hand-made quilts. Geoff Art and Photography – Photos on canvas. Joan Whaley – Oil painting. Linda Berlovich – Hand-made crocheted kitty afghan. Barbara Blanton – Beach cats print.
Thanks also to the many businesses and individuals that donated items and services for the silent auction: Debbie Alt, Bagel Factory, Lind Berlovich, Bianca’s Ristorante, Barbara Blanton, Bowland-Cape Coral, Carl Burnison, Classic Concepts, Danzinger Vineyards, Del Tura Golf and CC Pro Shop, Cookie Feiner, Barrie and Christine Fez-Barrington, Garnet Fleming, Russ and Robyn Geren, Golden Fork Restaurant, Golf World, Heavenly Pizza, Jet’s Pizza, Margaret Johnson, Neff Studio, North Ft. Happy Anniversary Al and Ida Capuano Al and Ida Capuano 159 Las Palmas Blvd. by Sue Dunigan A friend asked Al, “How have you lived with the same woman for 75 years”? Al smiled coyly and said, “That’s simple-two words. “ His friend gasped, “two words”? “Yep, just two words”, Al, with a straight face replied, ‘’YES DEAR”. The years have been kind to Al and Ida as they celebrate their 75th wedding anniversary on May 2, 2017. When you are in the presence of these two gracious people you began to realize how deeply they love each other and how good and kind they are to one another.
At 97 years, Al does all the shopping; dealing with all the household chores and taking care of all their business matters. He cooks; does the laundry and takes care of his bride who turns 96 this year. He drives Ida to her hair dresser appointments and takes her out to eat often. Their eyes shine brightly as they talk of the wonderful years they have had together and all the ups and downs through the years Al was operating his own barber shop and Ida running their home. They sorely miss their only child, Richard. Many knew Richard Capuano when he was the manager of the pro shop here for over 20 years.
29
The Capuano’s are one of the three couples left out of the first one hundred home owners here in Del Tura Golf &Country Club. Al has held the community, well documented golf record, of 56 since 1987. He played 18 holes, on South and West courses (the other one was not built yet) and made 8 birdies that day. Talk to Scott at pro shop about Al’s record and others. Al and Ida are some of the nicest neighbors and best type of friend anyone could ever have.I am thrilled to be able to share with you about their anniversary and what a precious couple they are. CONGRATULATIONS AL AND IDA!

Cut the plastic bottle in half. Mix brown sugar with hot water. Let cool. When cold, pour in the bottom half of the bottle. Add the yeast. No need to mix. It creates carbon dioxide, which attracts mosquitoes. Place the funnel part, upside down, into the other half of the bottle, taping them together if desired. Wrap the bottle with something black, leaving the top uncovered, and place it outside in an area away from your normal gathering area. (Mosquitoes are also drawn to the color black.)
