TOWER EDITOR REPLACEMENT
From the President’s Desk… Greetings Everyone! Well, we’re getting ready to head full steam into our busy holiday season. I hope it finds you healthy and happy. The faster time goes by, the more I find myself cherishing my family and friends. I’m so grateful to be part of this wonderful community and all it has to offer. I think sometimes, we lose sight of how lucky we are here, and that point was never more evident than in the past month, as I’ve had the chance to sit with HOA Presidents from to two other South Florida developments to compare costs and facilities. Both communities were basically the same as us in size. While there were many amenities that matched up well, I found that as we compared things such as our swimming pools, meeting, office, recreational and entertainment facilities, we had a pretty great advantage in
many areas. Additionally, both communities were impressed with the size of our lots and the way in which our homes were laid out. Both meetings were fun and eye opening to say the least. One recent event has me particularly excited. Since I became your President, it has been by fervent wish to place a comprehensive phone contact system in to service for all our residents, in the event of a major storm or other emergency. By now, you should have all received your test call from Hometown. Hopefully the phone number at which they called you, is the correct one. If you did not receive a call, please make sure your message system is activated and Hometown has the correct number on file. Please note they will only use one phone number per household, so consider your option carefully. I am truly excited that we are now on line and from this point forward,
we can contact all of you quickly and efficiently in the event of an emergency. The system will be used for emergency and important calls only. It will not be used for “everyday” announcements. I hope you are as excited and pleased to have this service as I. Also, as the fall and winter season ramps up, please take a moment to look at the schedule of events and make plans to participate. From dances to shows to Choralaires concerts, plays and more, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Check the schedule and make your plans. We hope to see you at every event. Along those same lines, as things get busier, please remember to be courteous to each other and follow the rules and regulations. As the pools get more crowded, please refrain from reserving chairs and lounges and then disappearing for hours at a time. Please keep cars off our
sidewalks. They are not designed to take the pressure and weight an auto puts on them. And of course, please follow the rules as it relates to the use of golf carts. Finally, election day will be upon us shortly. The are several important items we all need to consider. Of particular concern is Amendment 2. It will have a major impact on our future. Please read about it and consider it carefully when you vote. Our latest FMO magazine has considerable information on it. I urge you to read it. I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family and friends and are able to take a moment to consider all the things for which we should all give thanks. From where I sit……. as u s u a l … … . i t ’s just another day in paradise! Dave Adams HOA President
Unfortunately, Kathy Aira, our present TOWER Editor is resigning as Editor effective April, 2019. We are all very sorry to see Kathy leave, but understand she has other rewarding future plans. Understanding Risk Tolerance Is Essential for Investment Success To succeed as an investor, you might think you need to know about the economy, interest rates and the fundamentals of companies in which you’d like to invest. And all these things are indeed important. But it’s most essential to know yourself. Specifically, you need to know how much risk you are willing to tolerate to achieve your goals. Of course, you’ve lived with yourself your entire life, so you probably have a pretty good idea of your likes and dislikes and what makes you comfortable or uncomfortable. But investing can be a different story. Initially, you may believe you have a high tolerance for risk, but if the financial markets drop sharply, and you see that you’ve sustained some sizable losses (at least on paper – you haven’t really “lost” anything until you sell investments for less than what you paid for them), how will you feel? If you find yourself constantly fretting over these losses, perhaps even losing sleep over them, you might realize your risk tolerance is not as high as you thought. In this case, you may need to scale back the part of your portfolio devoted to growth in favor of a more balanced approach. On the other hand, if you believe yourself to have a low risk tolerance, and you start off investing in a conservative manner, you may indeed minimize short-term losses – but you also might find yourself frustrated over the slow growth of your portfolio. So you may decide that being highly risk-averse carries its own risk – the risk of not making enough progress to achieve your long-term financial goals. To reduce this risk, you may need to tilt your portfolio somewhat toward more growth opportunities. In short, you may have to invest for a while before you truly understand your response to risk. But even then, don’t get too locked in to one approach – because your risk tolerance may evolve over time. When you are first starting out in your career, and for many years after, you are probably investing primarily to accumulate assets for retirement. Consequently, you may need to include a relatively high proportion of growth-oriented vehicles, such as stocks, in your portfolio. While stock prices will always fluctuate, you will have many years, perhaps decades, to overcome short-term losses, so you can possibly afford to take on a greater risk level in exchange for the potentially higher returns offered by stocks and stock-based investments. However, things can change once you reach retirement. At this stage of your life, your overall investment focus may shift from accumulation to income. This means you will need to start selling some investments to boost your cash flow – and you won’t want to sell when prices are down. (Remember the first rule of investing: “Buy low and sell high.”) To help avoid these “fire sales,” you may want to adjust your investment mix by adding more incomeproducing vehicles and reducing your holdings in growth-oriented ones. By doing so, you will be lowering your overall risk level. Keep in mind, though, that even in retirement, you will need some exposure to growth investments to help you stay ahead of inflation. Become familiar with your own risk tolerance – it can play a big role in your investment decisions.

Directors and the administrative staff at the Largo business office. In 1962, the St. Petersburg City Council planned to enact an ordinance mandating that mobile home owners install tie-downs, a very expensive proposition then. Peggy Johnstone, upset by the impending mandate, contacted fellow mobile home owners and, on March 26th, 77 communities came together to defeat the ordinance. The FMO was founded that day with a clear vision in place: protect the interests of manufactured/mobile home owners in Florida.

Let’s start with the FANTASTIC PIZZA! The owner Tim explained that they have a water filtration system, which enables the restaurant to make and serve that delicious NY style crust. My true favorite are their meatball sliders. Fabulous homemade meatballs on Iragazzi’s outrageous garlic knots. WOW! You know I’m a true fan, and a typical New Yorker, since I enjoy their pizza every Wednesday. Wednesday’s special is a Large Pizza Pie $10. They have plenty of lunch and dinner specials everyday of the week! Their website “iragazzipizza.com” lists all their daily specials. YUM!

DEL TURA’S DOG OF THE MONTH: KIKO Back and forth… back and forth… back and forth – prancing proudly as I retrieve repeatedly, day or night! Hey, I’m a standard poodle, and despite our frou-frou reputation, my breed was developed to be rugged water retrievers. (The only one I know who takes retrieving more seriously than I do is my dog park pal, Zen, and he’s part poodle.) During football season, I also enjoy leaping in the air and snagging a Frisbee in the end zone for a touchdown! My poodle mom and dad created a fine litter of pups, and hard as this might be to believe, the humans that were supposed to take me home didn’t want me after all! At the age of five months, I was a languishing leftover, still living with my parents, when a pair of suckers (I mean nice humans) took me to my new home. My new dad always wanted a standard poodle. He and my new mom picked me up on her birthday. What a great present was my presence! I was a goofy dog from the get-go, with boundless energy. I trained my mom and dad so well, I was able to get them to walk me six miles a day for five months straight. This was necessary because we lived in an RV full time with my cat brother, Elroy, who for some odd reason did not want to play pounce the kitty! I couldn’t handle being cooped up in that small space. After a five-month wait, I went on my first big traveling adventure. We hit the road in a travel trailer that was even smaller than the RV we lived in, and headed west. Fortunately, my people were wise enough to ensure I had plenty of outdoor activity to keep me busy. I went on my first big hike in the San Juan National Forest just north of Durango, Colorado when I was still less than a year old! Hiking at 7,000 feet through mountainous terrain for nearly ten miles was a thrilling experience. So many smells… so many places to mark! Too bad my two-legged
companions couldn’t keep up with the pace I wanted to set. We all enjoyed the full-time RV lifestyle until my folks moved us to a “real” house in Del Tura two years ago. I met lots of new friends during my daily jaunts to the Judd dog park a few miles away, but I really wanted a dog park closer to home that I could cruise on over to twice a day. Then, it finally happened. The highly-anticipated Del Tura dog park opened at last! What a great place to romp, frolic, and strut my stuff. Lots of toys, a cornucopia of canines, and loads of fun every day. Life is good!

Del Tura Amigos Softball News Softball Players Needed The 2019 Softball season is quickly approaching. Our own Del Tura Amigos look forward to returning to defend their 2018 championship season. Before the first game in January of 2019, much preparation is needed. We are looking for as many returning and new players to join in for the 2019 season. Our hopes for 2019
are to field two Del Tura teams, the Amigos, and the Gringos! To do so, we need to get as many people involved as possible. Practices will begin in November! If you are interested in joining the team, please contact Jim Hamilton. His e-mail is: jimbigtimberconstruction@yahoo.com -- or you can give him a call at 208-313-1321.

Billiards Resumes In November Beginning 11/12/18 we will again resume our weekly tournaments which begin at 1:00 PM and last no more than 2 hours. Everyone is welcome regardless of skill level. Handicaps are applied so all players have a chance to win. This is not the usual 9-ball. Rather, one point is given for each ball made and 2 points for the 9-ball for a maximum 10 points
per game. You normally play no more than 2 games per opponent and the match is over when a player reaches his handicap
total. Depending on the number of players on a given Monday, we will either play double-elimination or round robin tournaments. There is a sign-up sheet in the billiard room along with more details about rules, etc. You need not play every single Monday that is scheduled. If you have any questions, please feel free to call Harry Christopher at 239-997-7345.

Friday Shuffleboard League By Jack Blevons Once again, it’s time for shuffleboard. By the time you’re reading this, Janet and I will be back home, here in beautiful Del Tura. After spending 5 months up in Wisconsin, working part-time at the campground where we both spent about 25 years and also near our families, it’s good to get back home here again. Like in the past, we will be starting up our Friday Shuffleboard League so I’m writing this article to let everyone know that our league will start off the 2018-2019 season on Friday, November 2nd. Janet and I will be back in Deln Tura on Sunday, October 7th. So once we get unpacked and settled back in,
we need to get working on getting everything organized again so that we are ready to start our new season. We would appreciate all you team members as you read this to call us at 239-731-0892 & let us know if you will be playing again as regulars, also let us know if you will still have your same partner so we can get our roster made up & also our schedule. Also update any changes to your phone number & e-mail address. If we can get all this information we’ll then have it all printed up along with the playing schedule & dates so we can pass them out to everyone in a get-together down on the courts on Friday, October 26th to all of you who can be there, &
then start league play on Friday, Nov. 2nd. Also want to mention that we are always in need of people who want to both join our league as regulars & also a big need for people who would rather just be subs who we can call to play for regular members who aren’t able to play for one reason or another on any given Friday. You can call either Janet or myself at 239-731-0892. We do have an answering machine on our phone so if we don’t answer when you call you can leave a message & we will gladly return your call. Looking forward to hearing from all of you & looking forward to having another great season of Friday Shuffleboard League.

Prospective Block Captain
Many new families have moved into Del Tura since January 2018 (126 homes). We are looking for a way to meet these new families “Closer to Home” in their comfort zone, and welcome them to the Del Tura family. We all wave at each other, let’s get to know each other. Both newbies and seasoned residents as one family. On Saturday, November 10th we are organizing to have Block Parties throughout the Del Tura community. If you’d like to help organize this, or even be a leader of one of these groups, all you need is a couple of tables. As you gather your group of friends, around 10 to 12 made up of families on either side of your home and across your street. Make sure you connect faces to your names, as we want to include everyone. If you want the Official title of “Block Captain,” please call me. Either way let’s have fun getting to know our new neighbors. Audrey Martin Block Captain Program Chair (239) 731-5824

18 Hole Women’s Association by Carol Marra Welcome back to all our Northern friends. By now many Northern states as well as Canada should be well represented. It is wonderful to have you all back as we get ready for many upcoming events. In fact, starting November 8th and continuing the 14th and 15th we have our Club Championship. This tournament is flighted and is total score minus full handicap. Good luck to all participants. Summer now seems long past but, with very hot and humid weather, those who stayed would say it was indeed too long. With temperatures in the 90s into October, pools and air-conditioning were much appreciated. To vary our summer golf, the 9 and 18 hole ladies played together three times,
scrambles each time, followed by lunch at nearby restaurants. While we are an 18 hole group, I have to say that 9 holes on a Thursday morning fit the bill this summer. Hopefully, this will become a summer tradition. LEGA and Invitationals are starting. They are posted in the Dungeon. These are golf events held outside of Del Tura. We organize car pools to the various courses. Lunch is always included. Prizes for LEGA are based on individual scores while Invitationals are team events. It is an enjoyable way to try other courses and meet new people. If you are new to Del Tura, we are always looking for new members. Our membership Chairperson is Kay Rolader. You
can contact Kay at 292-4964 if you are interested in joining. Improving your lie: I would not have thought of this as improving your lie and yet it makes sense. Phil Mickelson had teed up his ball when he noticed “fescue grass” a foot or so in front of his tee. With his foot he tapped the grass down and thus improved his line of play! What should he have done? Moved his tee if he did not want the grass in his way. Now Phil, when he realized what he had done, called the penalty on himself. At least, in this situation, there is an easy solution to the problem. Glad to have everyone back. We have games, chip-ins, closest to the pin and holes-in-one waiting for you. You never know when it will be your lucky day!

Reflections:
Island Visitor Publishing, LLC • November 2018 • 941.349.0194 • www.DELTURA-HOA.com
“A Time for Thankfulness, Loving Thoughts, & Unexpected Moments” By Dianne J. Roderick Being thankful for our daily blessings at our age has become automatic. We realize that we are blessed to welcome another
sunrise and look forward to the unfolding of each new day. However, we sometimes take many things for granted and go through the days without actually realizing
the many gifts that surround us. November is here to remind us about those gifts and how truly remarkable life really is! It gives us the opportunity to celebrate and remember how thankful we are for those special gifts of love, family, and friendship. Thanksgiving is a few short weeks away and we are beginning to prepare for that special time with family and friends. As we plan for that special dinner we look forward to carrying on many of the traditions of our parents and grandparents as well as the many traditions that we have added through the years. The lace tablecloth with matching napkins, Great Grandma’s silverware, Grandma’s china, Mom’s special turkey platter, Aunt Mabel’s gravy bowl, I get dizzy thinking about how much energy we put into the preparations for that special day! And we haven’t even started talking about planning the menu yet!! I’m not saying that planning is something we shouldn’t do, or
that tradition not be a part of that special day. What I am saying is that I would put less emphasis on matching napkins and silverware and much more emphasis on spending more time on conversation and laughter with the ones we love while we can. So much of our special times with family and friends are over shadowed with stringent details. Do we have to wash the dishes right after the meal? Can’t we wait at least until after dessert, or maybe after another glass of wine…Just saying. Fanny Fern, an American novelist in the mid 1850’s once wrote the following quote. “The cream of enjoyment in this life is always impromptu. The chance walk; the unexpected visit; the unsought conversation or acquaintance.” For some reason this quote has stayed with me throughout the years. For, I feel, it is in the

unplanned moments of life that we experience the most joy. It is true that when we plan special gatherings and honor past traditions, as we do on Thanksgiving, we somehow tend to get caught up with details, but the memories of those special times are never planned. What makes those times heartfelt and memorable are the impromptu moments within those precious hours that we spend with the people that we love. Thanksgiving gives each of us the opportunity to come together, reflect and give thanks for all of life’s blessings. Give yourself the time for those “unsought conversations”, “chance walks” and “impromptu visits”. Focus on the gifts that are there for you each day and give yourself time to experience the love and unexpected beauty that surrounds you with each sunrise and sunset. Happy Blessed Thanksgiving Everyone!

HOUSEHOLD HELP/HINTS FOR EVERYONE • Flexible Vacuum: To get something out of a heat/air register or under the fridge, add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vaccum. It can be bent ot flattened to get into narrow openings. • Measuring Cups: Before you pour sticky substance into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the water but don’t dry the cup. add your ingredient (like peanut butter) and watch how easily it comes right out. • Foggy Windshield: Buy a chalk eraser and keep it in the glove compartment of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser...works better than a cloth! • Reopening Envelope: If you seal an envelope and then realize you forgot to include something inside, just place the envelope in the freezer for an hour or two... it will unseal easily. • Goodbye Fruit Flies: Take a small glass and fill it with 1/2 with Apple cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. Flies are drawn to the cup then gone. • Get Rid of Ants: Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it home, can’t digest it so it kills them. It may take a week or two especially if it rains, but it is safe for pets and small children. • Dust removal from Silk flowers: Use your hair dryer to blow off the dust. • Dusting Lampshades: Use a soft dry paintbrush.

Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets The Thanksgiving & Christmas Baskets are an ongoing Community Event for the past 38 years. This event provides food and gifts for Needy families in the North Fort Myers/Fort Myers Area. Most recently (last 7 years) there have been 70 families that have benefited from this community activity. It should be noted that all the needy families are identified and screened by Nations Association Charities. Activities begin in the October time frame, with the distribution of flyers, requesting food and/or money to be donated. They are distributed to every household in the community. These flyers also identify the volunteers that will come by to collect these donations and when. A few days before Thanksgiving, boxes are packed with all the donated food as well as food purchased by the committee. These boxes are then picked up by Nations and distributed to the needy families. In December, flyers are again distributed to every household in the community, requesting donations of food and/or money.
However, in addition to food being given to each family, the Committee also purchases gifts for each person, in each household. On average there are 350 -400 gifts required. A few days before Christmas boxes are packed with all the food as well as the gifts are wrapped and put into boxes for the
individual families. As at Thanksgiving, these boxes are then picked up by Nations and distributed to the needy families. As can be imagined, this is a very large undertaking and requires the help of many volunteers. Listed below are the tasks that volunteers are needed for:
