I bought a box of chocolate hearts, a present for my mother. They looked so good I tasted one, and then I tried another. They both were so delicious that I ate another four, and then a couple more, and then a half dozen more.

My Mother’s Chocolate Valentine
A Poem by Helen Steiner Rice
The more that you’ll always have to spare, The more you love, The more you give The more you’ll find, The more you get, That life is good, The more you laugh, And friends are kind, The less you fret, For only what we give away, The more you do unselfishly, Enriches us from day to day. The more you live abundantly, The more of everything you share, Submitted by: Dianne Roderick
HOA ANNUAL MEETING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 26TH 7PM – STARLIGHT BALLROOM
I couldn’t seem to stop myself, I nibbled on and on, before I knew what happened all the chocolate hearts were gone.. I felt a little guilty, I was stuffed down to my socks, I ate my mother’s Valentine… I hope she likes the box.
Please attend and help us start the year off right – as the voice of our residents. Come share your questions and views with the Board, who is here to help our Del Tura Residents. (VOTE: BOARD ELECTION BALLOT SUBMIT BY FEB. 14TH)

From the HOA President’s Desk Starlight Ballroom. We will welcome new board members and hear annual reports from all the committees and groups in Del Tura. I hope you will attend and I suspect you’ll be amazed when you hear all the great things that happened this past year. During the course of the year, I receive many questions and comments about things that are permitted or not permitted here in our community. Each of us should have in our possession a prospectus that was given when we purchased our home. Many of the questions can be answered simply by reading that document. I’d like to encourage everyone to take a moment in the coming weeks to visit (or re –read) your prospectus to once again familiarize yourself with many of the rules and regulations in that document. Finally, many of you will once again use our facilities for activities and events in the coming year. As you know, in order to receive permission to use a facility, you must visit the HOA office and fill out “Room Reservation” and “Set Up
Request” forms. These forms are used to make sure your organization has everything you will need to make your event successful. Please make sure your fill out each form COMPLETELY! Please remember the folks who take care of those arrangements are volunteers and they need ALL your information to do a good job for you. If you need lights, sound, table cloths, coffee etc, they need to know. If items are not on your request form, they will be missed. That creates panic for you and inconvenience for those trying to help you. So please be thorough! Fill out your forms completely so our committees can service your event(s). I hope all the chilly temperatures of January are behind us now and we can enjoy that Florida warmth in the coming months. Everything is relative when you consider what the folks up north dealt with in early January. From where I sit it’s still…. just another day in paradise!
Please vote (X) for three: ____Cindy Baron ____Ray David ____ Don Dowell ____Penny Kisser NOTE: Ballots must be returned to the HOA office (609 Sierra Madre) NO LATER THAN FEBRUARY 14TH AT NOON *Your street address: _____________________________________________

As I sit here putting my monthly thoughts in order, it seems hard to realize that nearly a year has gone by since I accepted the responsibility to serve as your HOA President. So much seems to have happened in such a short period of time. We’ve enjoyed activities and events galore and continued to bond as our tight knit community family continued its life journey together. We’ve celebrated the good things life has to offer and mourned together as some of our friends and family were lost to us. We watched as improvements were made to our community, and rejoiced when Irma made a little slide to the right to spare us. Whatever your New Year’s Resolution, I hope the coming year brings you much joy and prosperity, And now that things are back in full swing, I would be remiss if I didn’t take a moment to offer a few quick suggestions as we move forward. First and foremost, please note our annual meeting is being held on Monday February 26th, 7pm in the

This is the month that FISH honors two sets of residents. The first is the membership that is there to drive our residents to their appointments, pick fruit for them from their trees, call them on their birthdays to wish them good wishes and let them know that they are important, send cards when they are ill or just lonely, deliver dinners to their homes when they have been hospitalized, make sure there is a large arrangement of fruit when they have lost their partner, and bring directly to their home any medical equipment that might be needed. I can’t say enough about our members! I often get the thanks of all the wonderful things that are done in FISH’s name, but in reality it is the membership that does the work. I do know that many of them feel the gratitude when they are assisting a resident. If you would like to feel that same gratitude please join us. Just call our Betty Scheetz at 609-477-9147 or come to the FISH table at coffee on Tuesday morning. There will be a short application form that needs to be filled out and that is all. We are always looking for drivers. This is a list of our 2017 active members: Elaine Ackerman; Irene Anzalune; John Belpulsi; Linda Berlovich; Sandra Boykin; Linda

you to relax and help you feel at ease in these different situations? For me a warm greeting, a hug, and a welcoming smile will say it all! We may not know what is going on in someone else’s life;
everyone has their own personal battles to fight as they travel through this journey. As individuals we cannot change what happened yesterday or predict what will happen tomorrow but we do have today. We can choose to make it better, even with all our aches and pains, by sharing good feelings and a smile with each other. It doesn’t cost anything and it will send a message that says, “I care!” A kind word and the power of that smile can renew hope within each of us! In this world that we live in I realize how easy it can become for someone to put walls up and close others out. So many people carry hurt and loneliness in their lives. Together we can turn frowns into smiles, tears to joy, dismay to hope, negatives to positives, disappointments to happiness, discrimination to acceptance, loneliness to friendship……. and so much more! So my friends as we enter this month of hearts and continue to work on our New Year’s resolutions, let’s listen to our hearts and share the love and compassion that were unconditionally shared with us at the very beginning of our lives.

First people experiences-what do we learn from them? What do they tell us? From the very beginning of our lives and throughout the many seasons that follow we will experience many first impressions. As infants our very first worldly human interaction begins at our birth. Those first precious months of life will set the stage for how we will relate to those around us. The tender touches, loving sounds, and consoling smiles seem to set the framework as to how trusting and cautious we will be throughout our lives. As young children and later as adults our experiences take us to that unpredictable world outside and suddenly we find ourselves immersed in many different surroundings. In some instances, with people that are not always as welcoming and kind as we so innocently were led to believe. How does one react to these situations? Somehow these life experiences teach us to defend ourselves and protect our feelings in various ways. Some individuals choose to keep their thoughts and feelings within themselves and are often viewed as shy, distant, even cold. Others exhibit outgoing behaviors and
will share their feelings without reservation. Thank God we are all different! With all the differences within each of us there are some needs that makes us the same! Let’s think about this and how we can use those needs to make each other feel better each day. As adults, in the “Golden Years” of our lives we continue to enjoy first experiences each day. Think about how you feel when you meet someone while you’re out walking, attending a function in our community, or joining a group for the first time. What are some of the things that make you feel more comfortable? Allow

How Can You Improve Your Financial Fitness This Year?
If one of your New Year’s resolutions is to get healthier, you may already be taking the necessary steps, such as improving your diet and increasing your exercise. Of course, physical fitness is important to your well-being – but, at the same time, don’t forget about your financial fitness. Specifically, what can you do to ensure your investment situation is in good shape? Here are a few “healthy living” suggestions that may also apply to your investment portfolio: Build endurance – Just as exercise can help build your endurance for the demands of a long life, a vigorous investment strategy can help you work toward your long-term goals, such as a comfortable retirement. In practical terms, this means you will need to own some investments with the potential to provide long-term growth. These are the investments that, ideally, you can hold on to for decades and eventually reap the benefits of capital appreciation. Of course, growth-oriented investments, such as most types of stocks, will rise and fall in value over the short term, and there’s no guarantee of profits, or even preserving principal. But if you choose wisely, and you’ve got the patience and discipline to hold on to your investments through the market’s ups and downs, you may well be rewarded. Maintain an ideal “weight” – You can help yourself stay healthy by maintaining your ideal weight. This can be challenging – as you know from the recently finished holiday season, it’s easy to put on a few extra pounds. And, just as inadvertently, your portfolio can tack on some unneeded weight, too, in the form of redundant investments. Over time, you may have picked up too many similar investment vehicles, resulting in an overconcentration, or “flabbiness,” that can work against you, especially when a market downturn affects the asset class in which you’re overloaded. So, you might be better off liquidating some of your duplicate, or near-duplicate, investments, and using the proceeds to help broaden your investment mix. Get proper rest – Many studies have shown that we need adequate rest to stay alert and healthy. In your life, you’ve probably already found that if you over-tax your body, you pay a price in your overall well-being. If you look at your investment portfolio as a living entity – which, in a way, it is, as it certainly provides life to your goals and aspirations – then you can see that it, too, can be weakened by stress. And one of the main stress factors is excessive trading. If you’re constantly buying and selling investments in an attempt to boost your returns, you may rack up hefty fees, commissions and taxes – and still not really get the results you wanted. Plus, if you’re frequently moving in and out of different investments, you’ll find it hard to follow a unified, long-term strategy. So, confine your trading to those moves that are really essential – and give your portfolio a rest. To enjoy your life fully, you’ll want to take care of your physical and financial health – and, as it turns out, you can make similar types of moves to help yourself in both areas.

“The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes.” – Marcel Proust A meeting of our club was last held on Tuesday, January 2, 2018. Club officers present were Peg McTernan, President; Ann Clanton, Vice President/Treasurer; Esther Kunz, Temporary/Alternate Secretary; Joan Whaley, Sunshine Club and Ann Boncore, 50/50 raffles. Recruitment of new members was again discussed, and a committee was formed to develop an action plan for recruitment/retention. Part of the plan will include a representative from our club at-
tending the Welcoming Committee to provide information to new single residents. Review of the bylaws, and possible revision of the club mission statement, is also on the committee agenda. A birthday luncheon, hosted by the club officers, will be held at the Nauti Parrott, on Friday, January 26th. A sign-up sheet is posted on the bulletin board in the clubhouse. Happy Birthday to Shirley Acker (2/11/18). A March birthday luncheon will be arranged by Ann Clanton and Ellen McKechnie. It will be held at Sable Springs. If you are single, you can attend a monthly meeting as a guest of our club. The meetings are held the first Tuesday of every month
at 5:00 p.m. in the Jacaranda Ballroom. Yearly dues are $30.00 if you decide to join. For further information, or transportation, call Joyce Lienert at 973-632-1147. Our next meeting is Tuesday, February 6th. This is one of our “sweet events”, with a nice variety of desserts and candy. You can also attend our monthly birthday luncheons. There is always lots of cake for dessert. Just sign up on our bulletin board. Transportation is provided if needed. “Mama exhorted her children at every opportunity to ‘jump at the sun.’ We might not land on the sun, but at least we would get off the ground.” – Zora Neale Hurston

Pickleball Tournament by Denise Rose On December 10th, the first ever Doubles Pickleball tournament was held here at Del Tura. After a few setbacks due to the rain brought on by Mother Nature, the tournament finally got under way in the late afternoon
and played into early evening under the lights. There were 28 participants or 14 teams divided into two brackets, all vying for trophies and bragging rights. The top 3 teams in each bracket then played against each other to determine
Second Place Pickleball Tournament
the winners. In the end, Steve Evans and Ed Pudlo were crowned the champions by going through the entire tournament without a loss. There was a tie for 2nd place at the end of regulation play so a sudden death playoff was held to break the tie. That game was won by Denise Rose and Dave Wyrsch so they came away with 2nd place. 3rd place was awarded to Pat Roush and Jim Yeakle. Many thanks to Larry Moore for organizing the tournament and to Justin Moore for sponsoring it and providing the trophies and balls used for play. Special thanks to Alice Harmon for coming out despite the inclement weather to keep the scores. Additional thanks to Jerry Jennes, Dick Rose, Pat Roush and many others for their hard work in getting the courts dried off and ready for play. A great time was had by all who participated and the small crowd that gathered in spite of the cold and rain. Come on out and enjoy the fun!!!
First Place Pickleball Tournament
The Del Tura bowling league has started with a bang! We may have had more two hundred plus games in week one then we had all last year! This year we expanded to eight teams from six, adding many new players. Chuck Hokey shot three two hundred plus games for a league high scratch series of 648. Paul Smith had an individual high game of 243. Others who had great handicap se-
ries were: Jerry Sadowski 590, Dave Csuy 587, Dianne Smith 590, Denise Rose 588, Jane Snyder and Janet Ragone 582.
Those having high handicap games were: Geoff Willhite 234, Barry Plisch 230, MaryKay Tointon 228, Susan Baron 224, and Sue Smith 218. We bowl every Tuesday at 10:30 at Bowland in Cape Coral. If anyone is interested in becoming a sub for our league see Denise Rose. She will gladly add you to our list. The next time you hear from me we should have several games in the books so I can list the standings.

18-Hole Women’s Association by Carol Marra Even in the Pro Shop we were not talking golf. The weather! Now, no one in Boston or Chicago is going to have any sympathy for us, but even our Canadian friends are finding it hard to be outside. Cold is cold and Florida is all about being outside and enjoying golf, pools and pickle ball. Hopefully, by the time you read this we will be having the kind of weather we have come to enjoy. The first few days of 2018 have only brought cancellations. The Jack and Jill tournament, scheduled for the 3rd and 4th was postponed a week. No leagues were playing and, from what I saw driving in and out of Del Tura, even friends visiting for a week or so did not taking advantage of the courses. Good news: Two holes-in-one in since our last publication. Jean Reimer on 2 West and Paula Lafre-
niere on 8 West. Congratulations to both ladies. Our next event, weather permitting, the President’s Cup, started January 25th and continued until February 1. This is Match Play. I hope everyone remembered that the only thing you can practice after a hole is over is your putting. If, for example, you practice a chip or a sand shot you lose the next hole. Our Valentine’s Tournament is on February 15th. And, for
those looking ahead, March 1 is the Member-Guest. Anyone new to Del Tura: We are always looking for new members. Our Membership Chairperson is Micki Sullivan. Contact Micki at 567-2975 if you are interested in joining. We play Thursday mornings. Various games are played as well as chances to win with a “chip-in” or a “closest to the pin”. LEGA and Invitational’s are posted in the Dungeon. We organize car pools and both events include lunch. Prizes for LEGA are based on individual scores, with handicaps, while Invitational’s are team events. It is an enjoyable way to try another course and meet new people. Also good news: No significant changes in the golf rules for 2018. There is some coming up in 2019. And no, they do not include gimme putts at 10 feet or making the hole bigger. Only in our dreams!
Friday Shuffleboard League
4/18
By Jack Blevons Welcome to February 2018 Friday Shuffleboard. Hopefully as you are reading this our temperatures have warmed up to what we are used to playing in down here. I for one, have had enough of this really cold, wintry weather. We moved down here from Wisconsin to get away from that stuff. They can keep those cold temperatures up there where they belong thank you very much! If we wanted to live daily in that kind of weather, we would have stayed up there. Anyhow, let’s talk about shuffleboard. Now that the holidays are over & people are done traveling, we should have all of our regulars back to playing every Friday.
As I write here today on January 9th, we have completed our 7th week of league playing & the standings of the top three in each flight are as follows. A-Flight; 1st place are Glenn & Mary Kay Tointon with an 18/3 record followed by Ben Hargraves & Janet Reinen (Blevons) 1-game behind at 17/4 & in 3rd place is Fred & Carolyn Brueggemann at 15/6. The B-Flight leaders are: Curt King & Marcella Carothers in 1st place at 12/9. They are followed by 3-teams all tied for 2nd place, Marlene Eck & Doris Thurber, Bob & Darlene Brinker & Bob & Denise Palazzo, all with 9/12 records. So, lots of close competition in both flights with almost
3-months left to play. Anybody’s ballgame as people say. We do have a couple of new teams playing this year & we are always glad to have them as like in anything else, age & physical conditions always seem to be right around the corner. Also want to add that we are always looking for new people who want to play, either as regulars every Friday or as subs when we have a need for one & that I might add is almost every week. The subs are a very important part of our league. So, if you are interested you can call Janet or myself here at 731-0892 & if we aren’t home just leave a message & we will return your call.

The Amigos (SOFTBALL)
3/18
Under the direction of Coach Stan, the Amigos have been practicing almost every Saturday afternoon in preparation for their first game, which occurred on January 10 against Lake Fairways. The Del Tura Amigos started off the season opener, by clobbering Lake Fairways 14 to 8. The stands erupted when our crowd of sixty cheered Jim Yeaklle as he sent the softball over the center field fence scoring his own home run in and driving two additional runs into home plate. The inning ended as our Amigos scored the maximum runs of five allowed in a single inning. The fans were nervous as Lake Fairways stepped to the plate for their last at bat. Two batters up, and two outs. Enter, Lake Fairways designated hit-
ter. The pitch looks like a strike, but the batter sends the softball to the hole in center field. The stands and the players erupt with cheers as Bruce Smith, a/k/a Smitty runs across the field and dives to make a catch, ending the game. If you want to have some fun, please join us at 5:30 on Monday’s and Wednesday’s to cheer on our own Del Tura Amigos! If you haven’t been out to cheer them on, please come on out to Carmelita Field in Punta Gorda. After the game, join us at the Poolside Pub inside of Del Tura to celebrate our game. If you can’t make a game, please join us on February 17th for our fundraiser. Please join us in the Starlight Ballroom at 3 p.m. for our fundraiser, Meet the
Amigos. We are raising funds to replace and repair uniforms. Tickets are on sale for $7.00, and include food. This is a BYOB event. We will have door prizes, a 50/50 raffle, and listen to Coach Stan as he conducts the first ever Induction to the Del Tura Senior Softball League Hall of Fame. Tickets are on sale now! Contact any player for a ticket, or contact Pam Price at 239.567.7929. Finally, on behalf of the Amigos, I would like to thank the Del Tura New Years Committee for their very generous contribution. We appreciate your generosity and your choice to support activities inside of Del Tura! The Amigos would also like to send a special thank you to Nick Mattresse of the Pool Side Pub for his continued sponsorship of our team.

By Jack Blevons I’m writing this on January 9th but as you are reading this now in February, we are hoping that many more of you people that have returned back home here after the holidays & also you new renters that enjoy coming here to our beautiful community to spend a few months are also coming to bingo here on Thursday nights. Since Janet & myself have taken over the job of running bingo here in Del-Tura we have completely revamped the games we are playing & no longer play those games that so many found it so difficult to follow & play. Bottom line. people weren’t having fun playing bingo. Those games are gone & once again we are playing simpler games to follow so that you all have fun playing bingo here. Having done that we hope to get more people to come & the more people who come, the bigger the pots get to win & I think I’m safe

THANKSGIVING AND CHRISTMAS BASKETS
By Charlene & Ron Ruotolo/ Betty & Dave Scheetz This year the Basket Charity Program was better than ever. Our community continues to show how much it cares by not only the donations to the program but by the overwhelming volunteer effort that makes programs like this possible. You showed it again this year, Del Tura Residents Care. Special thanks should be given to Ruth Anten for taking charge of the flier distribution and collection activities and Al & Dee Hesselberg for soliciting Home Depot (boxes), Save-A-Lot (food) and Costco (baked goods) to participate in our program. Special thanks also to the Craft Fair Bake Sale for their generous financial contribution. We provided food and gifts to 70 less fortunate families for the 5th year in a row, and as you can see from the financials (shown below) the Basket Program is positioned to
YOU ALL DESERVE A ROUND OF APPLAUSE!
help 70 families next year also. We will also be donating money to needy charities in the early portion of 2018. For those of you that do not know what the Basket Program is all about, we provide complete Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners as well as boxes of staple food and at Christmas gifts for each family member. As we have in past years, Christmas gift buying has already began for Christmas 2018. By buying throughout the year we are able to take advantage of sales, to ensure there are adequate resources to get all the food and gifts needed. Again our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to the holiday collection and to all the volunteers that collected, wrapped and packed the baskets. We would like to mention all of you by name but the list is just TOO long.
