From the President’s Desk Greetings everyone! It’s hard to believe we’ve reached the mid-point in the year already! With June comes those “Lazy, Hazy, Crazy Days of Summer”. It’s time for backyard picnics, family gatherings, swimming and of course, vacations. The fun comes in all different shapes and sizes. I truly hope your summer brings good times and great memories. But, a reminder……we live in Florida! With summer comes the beginning of the hurricane season. PLEASE take the time to think about your plan should a storm decide to pay us a visit this year. Gather belongings and papers and keep them in a safe place so you can grab them quickly should you have to leave. Plan your routes and think about where you might go in the event of an emergency. I know it’s not something we all want to dwell on, but I urge you to take the time
to think about your safety well in advance. Along those same lines, please be aware that Hometown and your HOA are working hard to have an emergency phone service system installed in time for use during the coming season. The system will enable our management to contact all residents via phone in time of emergency, or if issues or events warrant it. I am excited about this new service and hope you are as well. It will truly enable us to communicate with each residence in the event any important or newsworthy situation arises. I’m also certain you are seeing the continuing work on the trees as a result of Hurricane Irma. The job has turned out to be even bigger than we imagined. The original estimate of 800-900 trees was considerably off the mark. The actual count by our service puts the number closer to 1300
trees that actually came down. I ask once again that you exercise patience with the process. If you have any questions, simply phone the main office for an update. Two nights ago, a local television station reported that a development in Naples hired a tree service that only completed half the job and then abruptly left. They are working through legal channels to get it completed. We’re pretty fortunate here in Del Tura. I want to take a moment to thank Woody Cook and his committee for a terrific Memorial Day Ceremony recently. This was Woody’s first year running the event and he did a terrific job. There is nothing we can do as Americans that is more important that recognizing the sacrifice our veterans make. I know you join me in thanking each and every one of them. Finally, I want to take a moment to welcome Sherry Cottini
on board as the new Chairperson of our Welcome Committee. Sherry and her folks have some terrific plans for welcoming new residents to our community. If you are aware of any new folks that might welcome a visit from Sherry and her committee, please let her know. So…… it might be summer, but things still continue to move ahead at a rapid pace. We have two entertainment events, and a wonderful Fourth of July celebration under the direction of Linda Storma. If you’d like to participate in the annual Golf Cart parade, or assist her in any way, please give Linda a call. As I like to say each month……With so much to do and so many offerings, every day in Del Tura continues to be….. just another day in Paradise! Dave Adams HOA President
SIDEWALKS ARE FOR WALKING Full and part time residents of Del Tura and their guests are reminded that there should be NO PARKING OF VEHICLES, GOLF CARTS, TRAILERS, OR RV’S ON OUR SIDEWALKS! Please keep our sidewalks open for their intended purpose. Our streets are sufficiently wide enough to handle your vehicle and still permit traffic to pass easily. If you have contractors working on your behalf, please remind them of this request as well. Also, please keep your garbage off the sidewalks as well. Place it at the end of your driveway or in the grass. Attention to this request will result in a safer and happier neighborhood for us all!

I was adopted by my mom Marcy...From the gulf coast humane society...When she went there they asked what kind of dog she was looking for...She said ..Miniature Pinscher...Just happen there I was in the first cage..One ear up and one ear down..It was love at first bark. The first year was a bit rough for the both of us...As I had that street dog attitude..But once I felt love and secure..It was great!! I
still have one bad habit... Chasing golf carts.. We go up north for part of the summer...Had to learn how to do a lot of stairs..At first they were scary..Now I am a pro..Three at a time.. I live with my mom and Nana and Grandpa.. Have them all wrapped around my little paw.. My favorite thing to do now is go to the dog park... Love running around with my friends... Taco ..Rico.. and Nikki...Well it is time for my walk.

What Should You Look For In An Annual Financial Review? Given the complexities of the investment world, you might consider working with a financial professional to help you move toward your goals, such as a comfortable retirement. You’ll want to establish good communication with whomever you choose, and you should meet in person at least once a year to discuss your situation. At these annual reviews, you’ll want to cover a variety of topics, including these: Your portfolio’s progress – Obviously, you will want to discuss how well your investments are doing. Of course, you can follow their performance from month to month, or even day to day, by reviewing your investment statements and online information, but at your annual meeting, your financial professional can sum up the past year’s results, highlight areas that have done well or lagged, and show you how closely your portfolio is tracking the results you need to achieve your long-term goals. Your investment mix – Your mix of investments – stocks, bonds, government securities and so on – helps determine your success as an investor. But in looking at the various investments in your portfolio, you’ll want to go beyond individual gains and losses to see if your overall mix is still appropriate for your needs. For example, is the ratio of stocks to bonds still suitable for your risk tolerance? Over time, and sometimes without you taking any action, this ratio can shift, as often happens when stocks appreciate so much that they now take up a larger percentage of your portfolio than you intended – with a correspondingly higher risk level. If these unexpected movements occur, your financial professional may recommend you rebalance your portfolio to align it more closely with your goals and risk tolerance. Changes in your family situation – A lot can happen in a single year. You could have gotten married, divorced or remarried, added a child to your family or moved to a new, more expensive house – the list can go on and on. And some, if not all, of these moves could certainly involve your financial and investment pictures, so it’s important to discuss them with your financial professional. Changes in your goals – Since your last annual review, you may have decided to change some of your long-term goals. Perhaps you no longer want to retire early, or you’ve ruled out that vacation home. In any case, these choices may well affect your investment strategies, so it’s wise to discuss them. Changes in the investment environment – Generally speaking, it’s a good idea to establish a long-term investment strategy based on your individual goals, risk tolerance and time horizon, and stick with this basic strategy regardless of the movements of the financial markets or changes in the economy. Still, this doesn’t mean you should never adjust your portfolio in response to external forces. For instance, if interest rates were to rise steadily over a year’s time, you might want to consider some changes to your fixed-income investments, such as bonds, whose value will be affected by rising rates. In any case, it’s another thing to talk about during your annual review. These aren’t the only elements you may want to bring up in your yearly review with your financial professional – but they can prove to be quite helpful as you chart your course toward the future.

What is FMO? business office. In 1962, the St. Petersburg City Council planned to enact an ordinance mandating that mobile home owners install tie-downs, a very expensive proposition then. Peggy Johnstone, upset by the impending mandate, contacted fellow mobile home owners and, on March 26th, 77 communities came together to defeat the ordinance. I read of a man who stood to speak at a funeral of a friend. He referred to the dates on her grave marker from the beginning … to the end. He noted that first came her date of birth and spoke the following date with tears. But, he said, what mattered most of all was the dash between those years, i.e.,1935-2018. For that dash represents all the time that we spent alive on earth. And now only those who loved her know what that little line is worth. For it matters not how much we won… the cars…the house… the cash. What matters most is how we live and love and how we spend our dash. So think about this long and hard … are there things you’d like to change? For you never know how much time is left, that can still be rearranged. If we could just slow down enough to consider what’s true and real and always try to understand the way other people feel. Be less quick to anger and show appreciation more. Love the people in our lives like we’ve never done before. If we treat each other with respect and more often wear a smile. Remembering that her special dash might only last a while. So, when your eulogy is being read with your life’s actions to rehash … would you be proud of the things they said about how you spent your dash?

Del Tura Save Our Strays - SOS morning Buttons and Hermme sat on the patio waiting for some food. When I put the food out, they’d run, but come back to eat when I went in the house. I could see that Buttons ear was tipped but not Hermme. Buttons continued to come for breakfast every day, but Hermme only showed up occasionally, until he didn’t. On May 3, 2016, Buttons started showing up as
12/18
Buttons! Where have you been? Buttons is a feral cat that showed up in my backyard on April 22, 2016, around 7:30 am. He showed up with his friend Hermme, who liked to lay on my AC unit and look at my indoor cats through the window. Buttons was never more than 20 feet away from Hermme and followed along where ever Hermme went. That
suppertime, too. He wouldn’t let us get close for quite a while. Through out May, he would lay on the grass or patio until dark and then be off until breakfast. Our breakfast and supper feedings continued and he let us pet him until we touched him wrong and he’d swipe at us. January 2017, Buttons showed up limping with an open sore on his back foot. I gave him antibiotics and by February, he was all healed up. By the summer of 2017, he started showing up at dark. I made the mistake of giving him a few treats and after that he’d come for his 10:00 pm snack, too. When Hurricane Irma threatened, we drove away hoping and praying that Buttons would find a safe spot to ride out the storm. We
were gone for a week but at suppertime on the day we returned, there he was! And HUNGRY Buttons started staying in our garage at night during our “winter cold snap”. He continued to enjoy meals and snacks with us until March 9, 2018. He didn’t show up for his 10:00 pm snack. We called him, but he didn’t come. After a week, we knew something was wrong. We continued looking for him and after a month, we feared he wasn’t coming back. All through April 2018, I continued trapping cats to be TNR’d and at night when I’d pick up the traps, I’d put the car windows down and call his name telling him to “come home”. I missed him so much – a wild feral cat who had stolen my heart! Seven weeks later on April 28, 2018, a skinny pathetic looking cat was
meowing at my garage screens. Barry called to me, “Buttons is back”! I couldn’t believe it. He was 6 to 8 pounds thinner, disheveled and missing a big hunk of fur and skin from his left eye to his jaw. We opened the screens and he ran right in. He enjoyed a good meal and fell asleep on the garage floor. We took him to see Dr. Rohlk, the veterinarian. He had puncture wounds for which he got antibiotics and another 3-year Rabies shot. To be sure he wasn’t sick, we had him tested for feline aids/leukemia – results negative. He has become so gentle and loving and even sits on my lap and lets me pet him. If only he could tell us where he’d been and who or what got him. I think he might enjoy being an indoor cat now!

So, here’s how it will work. When you move in to Del Tura during 2018, your names are always passed on to the Welcome Committee to have a volunteer visit you with all sorts of

In addition to that, we have introduced a Get Together scheduled for the first Thursday of each month at 4pm and currently is scheduled at the Fountain Grille (across the courtyard from the Pub). ALL new residents are welcome to join us as well as other folks that may have moved in a while ago but would like to get to know more people or get more involved. We will be
more than happy to invite you to the event if I am aware that you would like to be on the invitation list. When: Thursday, June 7th, July 12th, August 2nd and September 6th Our intention is to make Del Tura your new family from now on! It’s hard to believe, but the rehearsal season for the “Choralaires” is right around the corner. Our first rehearsal will be Tuesday evening September 11th, 6:30pm in the Starlight Ballroom. At that time, we will begin preparing for our annual Holiday Concert, scheduled for December 1st. As in recent years, there will be a 2pm and 7pm performance.
If you’d like to join, please simply show up on the 11th and you’re in. If you are a “seasonal” and return to Del Tura a bit later than September, that’s no problem. Come join us when you return. You do not have to be able to read music to join us. And we don’t get upset if your schedule causes you to miss a rehearsal or two. If you like to sing and have fun, you’ve met the requirements.
Current members of the “Choralaires” who reside here year- round will receive their music at the Tuesday Coffee Socials beginning in September . I f you are up north at the moment and have left your address with Dave or Nancy, your music will be sent to you directly in August. All others can simply pick theirs up upon return. For more information, please call “Choralaires” Director Dave Adams at 508-284-6107.

Reflections Why the Frown?
By Dianne J. Roderick
I don’t know how many times over the years I have asked myself that same question. Do people ask you that question on occasion? I’m not sure if I have an answer, do you? I really think that we get so wrapped up in the drama that life sometimes presents to us that we don’t even realize we are frowning. Maybe it’s actually a sign of sadness, or it could possibly just be a moment of deep thought. In any event it’s just impossible to always be smiling but most of us try, even on the not so good days we try to find something to smile about. Don’t take yourself seriously…try to find humor in situations. We do try but it’s definitely not easy! I guess that I should explain why I am writing an article on this particular subject. I know that it’s something that over the years has
bothered me on one occasion or another. It seems that some people are always sad and that sadness can sometimes lead to bitterness and anger. What I do realize is that this is a part of life and for many reasons people cannot help their circumstances. What we sometimes mistake as grumpiness can be a reflection of frustration or a sign for help. Unless we walk a mile in a person’s shoes we’ll never know for sure. Perhaps they have been trying to deal with a spouse that has been stricken with some form of illness. Some of my friends have
spouses that are dealing with early and advanced stages of dementia. Coping with these situations on a day to day basis can be difficult for the patient and extremely overwhelming to the caregiver. It amazes me how many times the kindness and compassion of a caregiver can turn those frowns into smiles. How strong people can be when faced with the unexpected misfortunes of life! There’s always going to be the “Grumps” in life unfortunately. I guess most of us try to break through that crotchety behavior by being kind and giving words of encouragement. Oh God, as many of us know sometimes it takes the patience of Job! Sometimes more! Life is never easy but if we can look a little closer through a person’s frown we might be able to understand their situation. Perhaps if we’re lucky we can leave them with a smile and a brighter day.
“A smile is nature’s best antidote for discouragement. It brings rest to the weary, sunshine to those who are frowning, and hope to those who are hopeless and defeated. A smile is so valuable that it can’t be bought, begged, borrowed, or taken away against your will. You have to be willing to give a smile away before it can do anyone else any good. So if someone is too tired or grumpy to flash you a smile, let him have one of yours anyway. Nobody needs a smile as much as the person who has none to give.” – Dale Carnegie

SPORTS 9-Hole Women’s Golf Association Submitted By Ann Abramczyk
10/18
10/17 10/18
Allow me to introduce myself, I’m Ann Abramczyk. I’m replacing Barb Jones as the writer for The Tower articles regarding the Nine Hole League. Barb did an excellent job and we all thank her for providing the Tower articles. I hope to live up to her standard. Now that the year is tapering down, we are saying farewell to our seasonal members; I’d to share my experiences as a new member of this league. Let’s say it’s the “View of a Newbie.” We joined the golf club upon our arrival and I joined the Nine Hole League. I remember the first day of play. I was with 3 complete strangers and I was rusty. My play was not good! But, these 3 wonderful women made me feel so welcomed. Soon I found this was not unusual; this is the manner of the “Nine Holers.” So my “Newbie View” has been one of appreciation for every member’s graciousness. I look forward to enjoy-
ing many more years of being a “9 Holer”. I encourage the women of Del Tura to join this league! Now for some news: Justine Fitz Gibbons and Debby Taylor have made some changes to the 2018/19 schedule. Hopefully, this will give members more play time and spread out the tournaments during “the season.” It should be better for our seasonal members. Remember, the summer tee time is at 8:00 AM. Be at the lower parking lot by 7:40 AM. The third Wednesday of each summer month will be a 9 and 18 hole scramble followed by lunch. It should be fun, sorry I’ll be missing it. And remember; if the horn at the school blows; there will be no payouts for that day. Safety first. As I am one of the “snow birds”; please feel free to contact me at annabramczyk@gmail.com with any comments, questions, or news regarding the league. Thanks and have a great summer!

Blessed are those who know how and when to let go they have the joy of seeing others find themselves. Blessed are those who, when nothing can be done or said, do not walk away, but remain to provide comforting and supportive presence they help the sufferer to bear the unbearable. Blessed are those who recognize their own need to receive, and who receive with graciousness they are able to give all the better.

Blessed are those who give without hope of return they give others an experience of God.
