Landings Handbook & Directory I have started preparation of the 2019-20 edition of the Landings Handbook & Directory (the “Greenbook”). Owners should check their listing on the Landings website (www. thelandingsofsarasota.com) to confirm that their information is correct, and inform me of changes as described in the last paragraph of this article. Change confirmation letters will not be sent. The listings in the online directory on November 1st will comprise the printed version.

Also, for this edition, we will not mail the new edition to all owners. They will be available at the Main Gate and the Landings Racquet Club at a cost of $5.00. When the existing supply of binders is gone, no more will be printed. A PDF version of the directory will be available and downloadable on the website at that time.

Residents are encouraged to use the new website (www.thelandingsofsarasota.com) as their directory and Landings information resource. Directory information is

updated on the site no less often than weekly.

Changes are made to other information when appropriate. If you want current information, use the website!

If you have not established a userid on our site, you can do so by clicking on the Residents Login button on the site’s home page and follow the directions.

This month marks the return of many of our snowbirds.

Welcome Home!

When I came back from my African trip, there were projections of Hurricane Dorian heading towards Florida.

Fortunately for The Landings, we dodged the bullet. However, our thoughts and prayers are with those in the Bahamas and along the East Coast, who were not so lucky.

Speaking of Africa, I’ve submitted a few photos to The Eagle and have a photo blog on our LMA website, which you may find of interest. We went with Overseas Adventure Travel to

Johannesburg, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana and Cape Town.

Let me know if you want to know more about our African adventure.

Over the past several weeks we have experienced unusually high amounts of rain, which has put pressure on our lakes and has caused large amounts of sitting water. Our lakes and drainage volunteers have received many concerns and are hard at work to correct problems caused by this unusual weather.

LMA meeting notes LMA Pres. Norm Olshansky opened the meeting by giving his president’s report. He announced the following: • He thanked Michael Knupp and Roger Kidder for handling all the lakes and drainage issues related to the heavy rains in August.

• He announced he would write an article for The Eagle addressing residents who were being verbally abusive to a board member.

• He thanked George Neil for getting the overgrowth areas in the Phillipi Shores area cleaned up. The area behind “Rooms to Go” is still pending.

• The next Landings Happy Hour will be held October 23rd.

• The Security Committee has identified the people responsible for damage at the South Gate. Those residents will be contacted to pay the repair expenses. Those responsible failed to report the damages and offered no apology.

• The resident responsible for leaving behind dog waste bags has been identified and was contacted by letter.

• The budgeting and nomination process will begin soon.

• A new chairman is being sought for the Speeding Review Panel.

• The Landoliers will begin weekly rehearsals October 8th.

FINANCE REPORT Treasurer Dick Bayles reported on finances for the period ending July 2019.

He expects the end of the year 2019 budget would be plus or minus 1 percent. Bayles announced there were no significant unbudgeted expenses in July. Significant year to date changes in budget categories were road repairs, signage, wall painting, fountain repair and security services.

Less than a handful of yearly assessments remain to be collected. One will be written off as a $2400 bad debt because the owner’s property went into foreclosure.

He added, he has begun the budgeting process for the coming year.

MANAGERS REPORT Landings Manager George Neil reported the following: • One of the unkempt properties near The Landings has been mowed. He is working with the county to lead Rooms To Go into compliance.

• He is checking daily on county efforts to rectify the washout and street lamp issue near the North entrance.

• Continuing to monitor intellectual property issues related to the development named, “The Landing”.

• Monitoring progress on drainage issues on Landings Point.

• Solicited and has received 2020 budget information from five of the six major Landings’ vendors.

• Regular checks of ongoing projects throughout The Landings.

SAFETY AND SECURITY Chairman Michael Knupp moved to add the following language to the existing Speed Enforcement Policy. “If a resident household has three or more speeding violations of 10 mph or more over the speed limit within a 60 day period, even if those violations are by different vehicles and or different drivers, the decals of all vehicles in violation at that household shall have their decals suspended for 30 days. A subsequent violation by any of those vehicles during the decal suspension period, shall add 60 additional days to the decal suspension of said vehicles.” Knupp added the appeal process is available to all owners. After the motion was voted on and passed unanimously, Michael Knapp added, “We’re just trying to make the streets safer. That’s all this is about.”

The Safety and Security Committee as well as the LMA Board is addressing residential concerns over the number of signs on The Landings property. It was suggested that before any signs are erected on property, a proposal be brought to the Safety and Security Committee for their approval.

OFFENDERS BILLED FOR GATE REPAIRS Safety and Security Chairman, Michael Knupp reported of the six Gate arms broken this month, most were caused by Landings residents. The incidents not only cause damages to the gate, but also cause inconveniences to friends and neighbors.

All of these breaks were caused by drivers trying to enter through the entrances or exits without the gate raising, causing them to break free from the apparatus that raises the arm. Each repair costs the LMA between $300 and $500. If the vehicle can

President’s Column I do need to bring to your attention a problem we have had with a few of our neighbors, which we plan to address.

Several people who complained to our volunteers about drainage problems on their property or on the roads have been rude, verbally abusive and harassed those very people who are working so hard to correct the problems. We need to hear about problems and want residents to feel comfortable approaching our volunteers and leadership. But PLEASE, show a little civility.

On a similar subject, when the South Gate was under repair, several residents forced their way around the entrance and damaged the bar on the gate.

We have photos of those who caused the destruction. Not one of the three people that caused damage reported the problem to the main gate or apologized for the destruction they caused. We WILL be following up on each of the incidents to hold the people accountable for their actions.

We want to thank those who have been picking up their dog waste and disposing of it properly. We have identified and been in touch with one person who has consistently left their “poop” bag on communal ground.

Speeding continues to be a concern of the board and we will be rotating the radar more frequently as a means of deterrence. Please help us keep The Landings safe for our residents and guests. We also have new “flagman” signs that will hopefully remind people to keep within our posted speed limits.

The Landoliers, under the direction of Suzanne Stearns, will begin weekly rehearsals starting on Tuesday, October 8th at 3 p.m. Please join the Landoliers as they prepare for the Spring Concert. You just need to like to sing but do not have to be able to read music. The Landoliers have fun, whether you are a novice or experienced choral singer. Spread the word. Thanks to the work of Paige Packman and her committee we have continued to have well attended “happy hours” throughout the summer. Mark you calendars for the next happy hour to be held October 23rd.

As part of an effort to reduce expenses, we have decided to encourage residents to utilize the online LMA website

version of the Green Book and Resident Directory.

We will not be sending everyone a printed copy of the 2020 Green Book this year but for those who still want a hard copy, we will make them available at a nominal fee. More details will be sent to residents by snail mail in a few weeks.

The LMA Board is working with H R Horton developers to resolve marketing issues and name confusion related to their new community “The Landing.”

Our intellectual property attorney has been very helpful as we work on negotiations to resolve potential confusion around the name, since we have trademark protection on use of “The Landings.”

Attention Landings artists. A Landings Exhibit of resident artists will take place the weekend of December 7th.

meeting notes The Landings Homeowners board reviewed and approved the proposed Amended and Restated Bylaws of the Association, with changes to bring the document up to match the provisions of the Florida statute (720) governing the operations of homeowners associations. A “red-line” version of the changes will be sent to each owner with an explanation of each change, and a notice of the October 10, 2019 board meeting at which the Amended and Restated Bylaws will be adopted.

The Board approved landscape modifications, including tree removal, for properties on Pine Harrier Circle and Pine Harrier Drive, and repainting of residences on Flicker Field Circle and Peregrine Point Circle N. It also approved the installation of gates on Kestral Park Place and issued a setback variance for a front entranceway on Landings Boulevard.

The next regularly scheduled board meeting is October 10, 2019 at the Landings Racquet Club at 7:00 p.m.

This year’s Trick-or-Treat Trail will again run along Pine Harrier Drive & PH Circle, heading south on Kestral Parkway North through Peregrine Point Drive, PP Way, PP Circle W, and Peregrine Point, then south through Flicker Field Circle

Follow the Trail and look for homes with porch lights on or decorations. Participation on the Trail is voluntary.

Please be courteous by walking along the street and driveways and by-passing homes with their porch lights off.

You are encouraged to invite friends/family/grandkids to join you during this unique Halloween event. Follow normal Landings Security process for visiting guests by placing on Guardhouse guest list.

The Landings Holiday Charitable Foundation, Inc. Our mission is to provide gifts for children, during the holiday season, affected by cancer, abuse or loss of a loved one regardless of race, religion or educational background.

JOY AT THE HOLIDAYS FOR KIDS For the past five years our community has provided holiday gifts for children from four charitable organizations. Last year, thanks to the generosity of The Landings residents and members of the Landings Shopping Center, we supported 124 children who were affected by cancer, abuse or traumatic loss - kids who would have otherwise had an unhappy holiday experience. We continue to grow and last year our grassroots effort became a 501c3 tax-exempt Foundation.

This year our goal is to support 150 kids. Even with this increase in numbers, hundreds of kids in the Sarasota area will not receive gifts during the holiday season. Happiness from their struggles, if only for a brief time, will begin when our program helps kids wake up to celebrate the holidays with gifts for them and their families or attend a party where they receive their presents.

How this works: the children complete a Wish List indicating age, gender, sizes and presents they would like to receive. Residents “adopt” a Child(ren) and shop to fulfill their wish list, delivering the presents on a designated day in mid-December to the LRC club house. For those who are not able to adopt a child/family a tax-deductible contribution will go a long way toward purchasing gifts and putting smiles on children’s faces over the holidays.

Details about the community events will be forthcoming in the November issue of The Eagle or feel free to contact one of our board or committee members regarding this wonderful Landings supported event!

Landings Bicycle Outings to Begin in October Join fellow residents and guests on a casual bike ride and lunch on Sunday, October 20th. This is a touring ride at a comfortable pace, suitable for average riders.

Lilian Peltz-Petow -- “Passion for Tennis” It’s a game of love for Lilian, resident of The Landings. She made the team! She was chosen as one of four women, among top players in the country, to compete in the 2019 USTA World Cup 65’s Division this year being held in Umag, Croatia.

Twenty-three other countries played in this year’s cup named after Kitty Godfree, a Wimbelton women’s champion of the 20’s.

Ashley Sherman partnered with Peltz-Petow, in the mixed doubles events.

Lil’s passion for tennis began at a young age playing table tennis with her two competitive brothers. They all got good at it, and her brother Claude won a State Championship at age 15; and Lil came in 2nd in the Men’s State Table Tennis Champions, too. She said, “They allowed me to play because there wasn’t a woman’s champion.”

Lilian put her hand-eye coordination to use on the tennis courts where she became addicted to the game. “It is neat to be passionate about anything. It keeps (you) young, it keeps you happy,” said Peltz-Petow.

She started playing in USTA National Tournaments at the age of 37, and has become one of the best senior players in the country.

She said you work hard all year hoping you will make the team. She recalls playing in the 50’s bracket of the Maria Esther Bueno Cup in Antalya, Turkey where their US Team won.

Peltz-Petow battled a meniscus tear. “She is just a scrappy hard-nosed player,” Mary Ginnard, a teammate said of her ability to play through pain. In later years, Peltz-Petow helped the American team win over a strong South African contingent in England.

All the success she has had over the years living and playing in college in New England, climbing up the rankings over the years earned her an honor she is most proud of - induction into the New England Hall Of Fame.

My questions for Lilian: Q: Was coaching ever a career for you?

A: Yes, she was a tennis pro from age 22 to 40.

Q: What makes someone a good doubles player?

A: Knowing the court, geometry the angles, percentages in shot selection. Communication!

Q: What makes someone a good singles player?

A: Focus, Fundamentals, Footwork.

Q: What qualities do you like most in other players?

A: A Good Sport.

Q: What was the best advice you’ve ever been given?

A: The court doesn’t move! Look at the ball, not where you’re going to hit it.

Lil left for Croatia in mid-September. We look forward to hearing how the USA Team does this year.

‘American Roots: The Gospel Experience’ to explore the rich tradition of black gospel music Westcoast Black Theatre Troupe and Key Chorale are coming together for an exuberant collaboration with American Roots: The Gospel Experience. The arts organizations will explore the rich tradition of black gospel music in America through three performances at churches in Sarasota and Venice in October.

The third offering in the Key Chorale’s American Roots series, this edition brings together two of Sarasota’s most renowned performing arts groups, weaving the spirited style of WBTT’s singers, dancers and musicians with the soaring choral harmonies of the Key Chorale Chamber Singers.

The high-energy show will celebrate the deeply emotional music and movement at the heart of African-American worship. Highlights will include “Amazing Grace,” “Swing Low, Sweet Chariot,” “Oh Happy Day” and “Wade in the Water,” in moving, inspirational performances.

“It is truly a thrill to be able to put a program of this magnitude together – in partnership with the skilled singers of the Key Chorale – and perform it in area churches,” said WBTT founder and artistic director Nate Jacobs. “Gospel music was born in churches, where African-Americans could find release from the pressures of everyday life. This music played a huge role in the cultural experience of the African-American community but I think everyone in the audience will find the themes to

be relatable and inspirational.”

The end of the year is approaching and now is the time to throw your hat in the ring to serve on the 2020 LRC Board of Directors. If you are interested, you must submit your name and a brief list of your qualifications to Kevin Lechlitner in the Tennis Pro Shop by December 5th. If we have more people interested in being on the Board than available openings, there will be an election at the LRC Annual Meeting in January of 2020.

Normally this is where I recap the Labor Day BBQ. Sadly, the event didn’t take place this year due to the threat posed by Hurricane Dorian.

Lucky for us, Dorian decided to stay in the Atlantic Ocean and not make landfall in the state of Florida. The next club event is a tennis round robin & exhibition in late October. Be sure to see

Most club players throughout the world play more doubles than singles.

It’s great to see that they are starting to show more doubles matches on television. Like I have said before, doubles is two on two beach volleyball and singles is more like boxing. In doubles you have the setter (baseline player) and the spiker (the net player). There is a preparation, structure and system to having a chance to win consistently. At any level of play, the teams that win the most have these four things in common. They are ALERT, AGGRESSIVE, ACCURATE & ACTIVE. They are ALERT to opportunities to take control of the point or finish the point. They notice if their own shot or their partner’s shot gets the opponent off balance. This will give them the opportunity to get to the next ball in time, recognizing that they will receive a short ball or a weak shot. Now they can be AGGRESSIVE and play offense and possibly finish the point.

Both the net player and the baseline player are ACCURATE, because they have intentional targets and strategy. The very best have 3 or 4 plays that they run on a regular basis. A great net player is very ACTIVE because they realize that they are the “X-factor” on the court. If they follow the ball correctly, they create a lot of pressure on the opponents and take pressure off their own partner. They become the legal distractor for the opponents and they are the “Terminator” when they receive a ball they can attack. The ideal team is looking to swarm the net on a regular basis because that is the most offensive position on the court. At the net you don’t have to swing at the ball which means your timing doesn’t have to be as precise. And your targets (the 3 T’s) are much closer to you so you have a better chance to hit near them. Hopefully your doubles team is playing with the 4-A’s in mind.

We will have a “Meet the Pro” social round robin and pro exhibition on Friday, October 25th. The social round robin is from 3 to 4:30 p.m. ($5 per player - Beverages included). The pro exhibition will be 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. It will be a mixed doubles exhibition and give you a chance to meet Jen Fiers. See you on the courts!

By the time you are reading this, we should be nearing the completion of our annual court resurfacing project. This year courts 1 - 4 each received over 4 tons of Har-Tru and new line tapes. Courts 5 – 8 each received 1.5 tons of HarTru and kept their existing lines. Next year courts 5 – 8 will get the more thorough resurfacing. It alternates every year.

For the 27th year in a row, The Landings will host the USTA National Senior, SuperSenior and Ultra Senior Father / Son Clay Court Championships November 19th – 24th.

If you are interested in taking part as an ambassador, please contact Ralph & Dee Ricapito at 927-6261. This is one of the major things that distinguishes our tournaments from the other national championships and makes it very special for the players. LAKES Lakes chair Michael Knupp reported a dozen Landings resident volunteers planted 2,000 aquatic plants in the water and along the shoreline of Carriagehouse 1 (Lake 3). This is the first step in restoring the ecosystem of the lake by using natural methods rather than chemicals to control algae. If the program is successful, it will be implemented in the other eight Landings lakes. Knupp wanted to thank all the volunteers who battled heat and rain as they helped with the project.

Weather and emergency repairs at Carriagehouse Lake (Lake 3) delayed repairs on Bayview Lake (Lake 6). Bayview Lake repairs will be completed soon.

“THE LANDING” DEVELOPMENT UPDATE A letter from LMA’s Intellectual Property Attorney was sent to executives of “The Landing” development expressing concerns and objections to their name. They responded by stating they understand LMA’s concerns and are willing to change the name, but want to keep the word, “Landing” in their name. Olshansky solicited some recommendations. Suggestions included, Osprey Landing, Landing Acres, Mangrove Landing, Perfect Landing, Kings Landing, Live Oak Landing and Palmer Landing. He set up a closed executive meeting with LMA’s Intellectual Property Attorney to discuss options.

THE LANDINGS “GREEN BOOK DIRECTORY” Dick Bayles announced the cost of printing and mailing the Green Book Directory (GBD) is about $4000 annually. The transitory nature of Landings residents who either move out or move in to the community, causes the GBD to become outdated nearly before it is distributed. He relayed the GBD on the website is updated weekly.

Realizing there are some who will never have a computer they can use to access the GBD, he proposed the following 3-year plan. Reduce the print run the first year from 800 to 500, discontinue mailing it, and charge a $5 fee for those who want to pick up the printed version at the Racquet Club or the Main Gate. The $5 fee would cover the cost of printing. The second year the print run would be reduced even further and the fee per printed copy would be raised to $10. The third year, none would be printed, but an 8 1/2 x 11 loose leaf version would be provided on demand for a fee. After some discussion, a decision was made to make a printable pdf version available that could be printed individually. The plan was made into a motion and the motion passed unanimously. All residents will be notified by regular mail about the change in GBD distribution.

EDITORIAL COMMITTEE Chairman Gordon Garrett reported discussing co-op advertising with executives from the Herald Tribune, WUSF, The Observer, Sarasota Magazine and several local monthly newspapers.

COMMUNICATIONS Communications Chair Joan Koplin is recommending the ad promoting the website continue to appear in The Eagle. The committee is also designing a postcard to be mailed to all residents in late October or early November.

ENVIRONMENTAL Committee chair Maralyn KaufmanDavid, PhD reported 2,000 aquatic plants were planted in the water and along the shoreline of Lake 3 by a dozen Landings residents. This is a natural method of controlling algae in the lake. The plants were purchased using money received from the Sarasota Bay Estuary Program grant.

Efforts are continuing to seek participation in the 2019 International Coastal Cleanup on September 21.

Landings resident Robert Manteiga is continuing to submit photographs and articles for The Eagle newspaper.

MAINTENANCE Maintenance Committee chair Ron Pierce reported the progress of several projects.

• The street sign repair and replacement program is continuing.

• A hidden lamp light near the North Gate has been repaired.

• Damaged Delineator Safety Posts near Kestral Parkway North and Tamiami Trail were replaced and more damaged posts will be replaced soon.

• All main road curbs are scheduled to be repainted and safety reflectors will be added as needed.

• Wall repair and painting is in progress at several locations.

• Large trucks were escorted safely in and out of The Landings.

• Large construction and delivery trucks are still trying to gain entrance through the North Gate because of faulty directions given on their GPS system. The committee suggests adding additional yellow signage, yellow striping and strategically placed traffic delineators as a possible solution.

• Suggestions are still being solicited to resolve an ongoing problem. A retaining wall has been repaired four times at the corner of Kestral Parkway South and Kestral Park Place. Large trucks continue to damage it trying to negotiate a turn in that area.

GENERAL DISCUSSION A resident expressed concern over roadway widths along an island in front of his home. He stated there is not enough clearance for a car to safely pass someone walking along the road. President Olshansky assured the resident it was a concern in many other areas as well and the issue would be raised once an engineering company is hired for road resurfacing. It was noted there are drainage concerns in that area as well.

Landings residents Heidi and Dan Bodor have been part of a parent volunteer group promoting chess in Sarasota and surrounding counties for the past seven years. Their non-profit group, Sarasota Scholastic Chess, has been hosting quarterly tournaments for K-12 students since May 2012. In the past few years, they have opened the top section to adults as well, in part to give adults a chance to participate in a real competition setting and in part to give the top student players more players of similar ability to compete against.

If you have a student that is interested in playing but they are concerned about the competition of a tournament, rest assured that there is a full range of abilities participating, from beginning kindergartners to advanced high school students, each in a section for their age and ability. The format is such that everyone plays several rounds the whole afternoon, win or lose, and with each successive round their competition becomes more and more evenly matched.

For grownups, we’d recommend starting with a free account and free play on

chess.com. No matter what your ability, after playing a few games, the system will establish your level (called a rating) and match you with others who are at a similar level. If your rating is in the 1000 to 1600 range, you can find some nice competition in the top section of our tournaments. If you are below 1000 you are still welcome to play, but may find the competition harder. If you’d still like to find others for casual play, there are several locations in our area where players meet up regularly. Household Community Hauling Program The next date for dropping off your unwanted paints, household chemicals, electronics, batteries, etc. will be Wednesday, November 13, 2019. A list of the acceptable items is provided in the box below.

“BIRDS IN OUR BACKYARD” BUILDING A BIRD LIST FOR THE LANDINGS

BIRDS IN OUR BACKYARD: Storks, Cranes, And Other Wading Birds - Part One In addition to the various species of egrets and herons that were recently featured in our “Birds in Our Backyard” column, there are countless other birds here in South Florida that fall into the category of “waders”.

These include storks, cranes, ibises, roseate spoonbills, rails, avocets, limpkins, and gallinules, all of which have been spotted in and around the lakes and ponds of The Landings.

The Wood Stork, one of the largest of these birds, stands nearly 48 inches tall, and has a wingspan of nearly six feet. It is white in color, has long thin black legs, a dark naked head with iridescent green or yellow markings, and a long, thick beak. The Wood Stork likes to feed while walking, keeping its head down the entire time. It is often confused with the White Pelican, which has a similar wing pattern and also soars high on thermal currents.

The Sandhill Crane is of similar height, but is much less robust, and has a somewhat larger wingspan. It is greyrust in color, has long, dark legs, and sports a distinctive red crown. Sandhill Cranes are almost always seen in pairs. That’s because they mate for life. If you happen to spot one by itself, there is a good chance something has happened to its mate. A recently introduced bill, which would allow for more hunting of this beautiful species, is bound to have a devastating effect on the bird’s mating habits. While the Sandhill Crane is more of an in-land species…much more common east of the trail than west… we have spotted a few here at The Landings.

The American Ibis is a white long-legged wader with a long decurved orange beak and a distinctive darker orange mask. Immature Ibisis have a brown body and mottled neck, which gradually lightens as the bird matures. You can often spot them flying together in a V-pattern, similar to that of Canadian Geese.

The Roseate Spoonbill is a bright pink wading bird, similar in color to the American Flamingo, with a greenish-grey neck, and a long flat beak, which is lined with hundreds of tiny soft teeth that filter out unwanted grasses as the bird feeds. Immature Roseates have bright white feathers that gradually acquire a glow of pink as the bird matures.

A Message From Sherman Hi there neighbors. My name is Sherman and I live in The Landings...what a lucky cat I am! You see, I was a community cat living under an abandoned house in Newtown with a colony of community cats. You ask what is a community cat? Well, basically, “community cat” is an “umbrella” title for various categories of cats that live outside: Outdoor Cats, Stray Cats, Feral Cats, Alley Cats...all are community cats often living in family groups called colonies. Community cats are bonded to their environments and colonies.

The only humane, effective approach to care for community cats is “TNR” Trap-Neuter-Return to stop them from multiplying. Eventually the colony will die out if it doesn’t keep reproducing. In the TNR program, cats are spayed or neutered, vaccinated, ear tipped as visual that they have been neutered (actually the Vet kinda butchered my ear), and then returned to their outdoor home or colony, hopefully with a colony caregiver feeding them.

So, back to me and my colony. Dedicated volunteers from Cat Depot were visiting our colony almost daily with food and trapping us in a TNR program then returning us to our colony. Most of the cats in my colony were feral (feral cats have never had human contact and cannot be socialized); however, when I was brought in to Cat Depot I was a good boy... I didn’t hiss or try to bite. So the decision was made to put me up for adoption.

Well, along came Landings resident, Nancy Ferraro, a volunteer at Cat Depot. You might remember Nancy from an informative program on feral cats at the

Racquet Club a couple of years ago and a previous article in The Eagle on The Landings feral cats. Nancy had recently lost her beloved 19-1/2 year old cat and was looking for a new kitty. I was in a pod with a few other cats but I was in hiding; it was pretty scary being away from my colony and in a strange environment.

Nancy laid down on the floor and started calling to me. Being the curious cat that I am, I slowly eased my way out of my cubby hole to figure out what she was saying. Actually, since I had never seen a human in a prone position on the floor, I thought maybe she was dead! But she was talking to me and seemed relatively harmless, so I eased my way over to her, flopped down next to her and rolled over on my back. Smart me! That day a little over a year ago I came home to The Landings with Nancy.

I’m not perfect. It was guessed I’m somewhere around 8 or 9 years old, I have no teeth (all had to be pulled because of a painful gum disease called Stomatitis), I have this ugly clipped ear, and I’m overweight. Yes, I’m food obsessive, perhaps from years of living outside always searching for my next meal. But I assure you I am eternally grateful for my home in The Landings. And, as you can see from my photos, I have adjusted well.
