CANADIAN CLUB Well, things are in full gear with everyone playing cards, shuffleboard, water aerobics, and bingo (your writer has been quite successful at this, winning three times in one night. I truly thought I would be asked to leave!) So much to do, so little time. When you read this, we will be starting to think about our return to the north. We have a number of new Canadians this year and it has been so much fun to meet them and share stories. The February dinner of stuffed chicken breasts prepared by the Sharp’s and Redgers was delicious. Thank you everyone for the salads, sides and desserts. And that homemade ice cream cake made by Anne was so yummy. Our March dinner is being hosted by Elaine & Peter who are supplying a fav northern meal of flank steak. A request is out for another meat entrée, so please let Dave Sharp, Patti Thompson or Brenda Redgers know what you can bring. Again, if we have missed any new Canadians please let them know about the March dinner. Looking forward to seeing everyone again for a social evening. We have an activities meeting in March to discuss events for the year 20202021, so if anyone has any ideas they want to be brought up please let us know. See you soon. Brenda Redgers

MID-ATLANTIC SOCIAL CLUB NEWS The year of 2020 keeps moving along swiftly. We are already into the third month of the first quarter. The Mid-Atlantic Social Club is meeting on Sunday, March 8th at the Isles of Punta Gorda Yacht Club for brunch around 11:30 AM. After enjoying a wonderful array of foods, the marina

MIDWEST CLUB NEWS On January 10th, the sports fans in the Midwest Club gathered for the first meeting of the New Year. Members showed their allegiance to their favorite teams with their colorful jerseys and showed off their football knowledge in a Trivia Game. Many participated in the football pool set up by Dale Holat. Thanks, Dale. The winners of the pool were: Rick Lubich, Bill Goodhue, Kent Hetzer, and Moe Chouinard. Congratulations! Our treasurer, Peggy Gamble, shared that through the many very generous donations of Midwest Club members to the bake sale, $770.00 was raised and given to Hearts and Homes for Veterans. Another $505.00 was sent to the Gabriel House at the holidays. Both organizations were very appreciative and amazed at the generosity of our club. As this article is being written, the Midwest Club is working on their Mardi Gras Party to be held February 21st. The Clubhouse will be festooned in purple, green, and gold and a game of Mardi Gras bead hot potato is being planned to help us pick a King and Queen of the Mardi Gras meeting. A game of Mardi Gras Bingo will also occur. The Midwest’s own chef, Bob Polenska, will be preparing Jambalaya with the help of his sous chefs: Rick Lubich, Spike Makia, Ron Mester, and Gale Pinelli. Desserts and Salads will be provided by our other talented cooks in the Midwest Club. We are also looking forward to our March meeting during which the Midwest Club will celebrate National Pie Month. More details on both of these meetings will be reported in the April issue of The Columns. You will just have to wait until then to learn who won the crowns for Mardi Gras and what mystery pies were served at the March meeting. Debbie Polenska Co-Secretary Continued on the next page
