SUBTLE SIGNS THAT YOUR DOG LOVES YOU Leaning against you: Your pet may lean against you because he feels anxious, wants something, wants to cuddle or is looking for some extra comfort or security. Leaning against you makes your dog feel safe and secure, and it’s another way of showing his love.

Yawns with you: Even though yawning isn’t a way to actually measure if canines are capable of showing empathy, scientist suggest it is possible, and dogs could be demonstrating their sympathy by yawning when the person they love yawns.

Gives you direct eye contact: When your pet looks directly into your eyes, he’s letting you know how important you are to him.

Stays calm when you leave:

It is a subtle sign he loves you because you have his trust and he’s confident you will come back.

Is excited when you return: It is a sign he loves you and is happy you returned safely. Gives you a doggy smile: When you dog hears your voice and greets you with an open mouth and relaxed expression, it’s an affectionate sign he’s happy to see you. You doggy friend loves the sound of your voice and scent - showing his love by running to you and giving you a doggy smile. (these are excerpts by Linda Cole) Adopt A Shelter Pet Today

Reflections…

By Dianne J. Roderick

“Family”

Thinking of family and what that should mean. I’m not sure that we can just fit a specific meaning to family. It seems that its meaning goes so much deeper than the original dictionary meaning. Most dictionaries still define the noun family as; “a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household” or “all the descendants of a common ancestor”. It goes so much further than that, don’t you think? It may begin with two people who fall in love and become parents and that family may share descendants of a common ancestor but it doesn’t completely explain what family can truly look like. Family, Familia, Famille....pronounced differently with every nationality; yet the make-up of family can vary in so many cultures. There are so many adjectives that try to describe what a family really looks like in today’s world. Throughout our lifetimes the original picture that was painted for us has been transformed into a canvas of portraits that try to explain the many “Modern Family” definitions. When I reflect on our family as a child, I always refer to my experiences as growing up in an extended family. We were so blessed to be surrounded by parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins...and yet not all were connected by blood but certainly connected by love. Blood, or no blood ties we were a family! Through the good times and not so good times we supported one another...staying close enough to lend a helping hand to each other. Never giving up on one another.

Families, bond together by love and compassion, that’s the

key to keeping it altogether in this life. It doesn’t matter if everyone shares the same DNA or not. A family grows when we connect with others in special ways, what begins as a friendship turns into a heartfelt connection that is with us throughout our lives. Before you know it Charlie from down the street and Gladys from your church are coming over every Sunday for dinner. Another cherished family member, bonded together for a lifetime out of friendship and love. Today’s families may be called, by modern definition, extended, single parent, childless, LGBT, blended, or mixed but they all have to have three things in common in order to coexist happily with each other. Love, compassion, and support for each other are the three key elements that will get them through the happiest and most challenging times.

2019 Thanksgiving and Christmas Baskets By Charlene/Ron Ruotolo, Betty Scheetz & Ruth Anten

This year (2019) the Basket Charity Program continued to exceed our expectations. Del Tura continues to grow and it seems that all the new residents are every bit as giving as the existing ones. The Del Tura Basket Program is now 39 Years Old and still going strong, thanks the donations (food, money & gifts) by the RESIDENTS OF DEL TURA. In addition to all the donations there is also an overwhelming volunteer effort that makes programs like this possible.

Special thanks also to the Craft Fair Bake Sale and Make-EM-Laugh for their generous financial contributions. We provided food and gifts to 70 less fortunate families for the 8th year in a row, and as you can see from the financials (shown below) the Basket Program is positioned to help 70 families again next year. We will also be donating money to a needy charity in the early portion of 2020. It may look like a lot of money being carried over into 2020 but those funds allow us to buy all year long. For those of you that do not know what the Basket Program is all about, we provide complete Thanksgiving and Christmas Dinners as well as boxes of staple food and at Christmas, gifts for each family member living in the household. As we have in past years, Christmas gift buying has already begun for Christmas 2020. By buying throughout the year we can take advantage of sales, to ensure there are adequate food and gifts for the 2020 Families

Again, our heartfelt thanks to everyone who donated to the holiday collection and to all the volunteers that collected, wrapped and packed the baskets. We would like to mention all of you by name, but the list is just TOO long.
