DTNHWGA members have much to celebrate. Two days of play in weather of extreme heat to low temps ended with our new Club Champion, Mary Kay Tointon!! Those placing first in their flights were Kathy Klein, Flight 1; Karen Brennan, Flight 2; and Barb Jones, Flight 3. Nicely done ladies.

Several members enjoyed the Hometown Invitational, but Maureen Monroy really had a great day with her Hole in One on #6 North earning her a trip for two to Las Vegas! Kudos Maureen.

The Couples’ Valentine Challenge brought great attendance. The dinner that followed showcased members’ favorite hors d’oeuvre and desserts, and Hog body’s served a great dinner. The refreshment committee made sure there was lots of pink and red to celebrate the special day. Many thanks to all involved in planning this event.

Members, friends and family gathered at #3 South recently to dedicate the garden bench and adjacent planters of succulents established as a memorial to those long-time members of the group who are no longer with us. Name plaques for 9-holers who have passed, Gay Luders and Shirley Williams (made by Al Wells), have been

attached. Funding for the memorial was shared by the Williams family and the 9-Hole members. All are invited to enjoy the location tucked under the trees that provides a lovely spot for a quiet moment.

The annual Member/Member will be held March 11 & 12 with lunch to follow. If you’ve not participated in the past, consider it this year. It’s a fun event, and with so many new members, someone might just be waiting to be asked!

TEE OFF TIME By Margie Blackwell

New and Returning Members Welcome to our new members who joined us in the last thirty days - Cilla Canney, Ann Hoglund and Joanne Liberles. Also, Rynnetta McCrank has joined us again! We are happy to have you all with us. There was also a good turnout for the annual Valentines Tournament. Winners will be included in next month’s Tower article.

Be sure to keep an eye out in the dungeon for other upcoming events, including those sponsored by the Pro Shop. The “Golf for the Cure” Tournament is scheduled for Saturday, March 21st. It is always a terrific day of golf and friendship. So, don’t miss out!

Tournaments Golfers in the Member-Member Tournament were extremely happy with the wonderful weather on both days of the event in late January. Winners in each of the two flights were: Memorial Bench You may recall that a memorial bench was donated and placed at the #1 West tee box about one year ago. With the help of several people, including Bertie Dugo, Wilma and Rick Antaya, and Carol Burnison, it has become a beautiful area with nice plants and shrubbery surrounding the bench. Thank you to all who are involved with the ongoing maintenance of this area.

Tuesday Bowling League

By Glenn Tointon

DEL TURA BOWLING HEADS TOWARD THE FINAL STRETCH With eight weeks left, the teams are beginning to bunch up heading into the final stretch. The Warriors are still leading but the gap is closing quickly by the 10 Pins. Linda Laird, Joan Whaley, Gary Cromer, and Chuck Hokey need to be a little worried about Janet Ragone, Sue Brown, Marianela Tamayo, and Dave Csuy as they have reduced the lead from 16 games to 9 games all in one week! I think I heard them say: “move over Warriors ‘cuz here we come!”

With a half game separating the next three teams anything can happen. Who Cares with Sue Larson, Sue Smith, Keven Trombley, and Frank Barilla are in third while Dan’s Fans with Susan Baron, Cindy Baron, Jackie Cromer, and Big Dan Larson are in fourth. Tied with them are We Forgot comprised of Glenn Tointon, Marly Haag, Janet Huss, and Joe Pollock.

Top bowlers this week were: Men: Dan Larson 212, Chuck Hokey 207, Joe Pollock 202, Tom Demshak 199, Dave Csuy 197, Leon Buss 183, Paul Smith 183, and Ken Baron 181 Ladies: Diane Smith 187, Pat Roush 183, Denise Rose 178, Jane Snyder 177, Jackie Cromer 172, MaryKay Tointon 168, Sue Brown 167, Joan Whaley 166

Good luck to all the teams looking for a strong finish. Just remember: good speed, lead with the correct foot, eye on your mark, follow through, arm up, eyes open, don’t fall, and most important is to remember, the bowling alley cleans the gutters so you don’t have too. ENJOY the next eight weeks!

Traveling Shuffleboard League

By Glenn Tointon

DEL TURA TRAVELING SHUFFLEBOARD ON A REBUILDING YEAR After opening the season by defeating both Six Lakes and Herons Glen by scores of 16-14, they then lost to a strong Windmill Village team by the same score. On February 6th they fell to a very good, okay, excellent team from Lake Arrowhead by a score of 26-4! Lake Arrowhead has three professional shufflers on their team which really puts them in a league above us. On our behalf, we were missing two of

our best players from illness and surgery.

After losing two of our best players from last year we are finding ourselves in a rebuilding season, one we haven’t had to face in a long time. We are looking for new players to join us. You don’t have to be great players, just willing to be taught strategy and defense. We are more than willing to teach you the right way to play the game if you think you would like to join us. Our games are played at one o’clock on Wednesdays and last only eleven weeks. Although we do travel to close communities, we are a fun league. We love to win, but in the end it’s all about meeting and enjoying new friends from the various communities. Please contact Glenn at 920-309-1294 with questions.

As of the time of this writing we are 50-70. Congrats to Glenn Tointon with a record of 13-2, Marcella Caruthers and Marlene Eck at 9-5,Janet Reinen at 7-5, and MaryKay Tointon at 5-3.

Others who’s records don’t always show their abilities this early into the season are: Judy Lessard, Denny Major, Carolyn Brueggerman, Cam Smith, Kurt King, Kathy Boesel, and Diana Camp.

Friday Shuffleboard League

By Jack Blevons

It’s February 7th, so time to get my letter written to make the March Tower. Also, being Friday, we played week 12 of our season today so now I can update the standings after today’s play. The A-Flight leaders are as follows. In 1st place are: Glenn & Mary Kay Tointon with a win record of 29/7. They are followed by the teams of Marcella Carothers/ Curt King and Marlene Eck/ Dave Lessard tied for 2nd place just 1-game behind at 28/8. The B-Flight leaders in 1st place are: Kathy Boesel & Mary Pimental with an 18/18 record & they are followed by the two teams of Ray David & Cam Smith and Audrey Pearson & Deb Taylor, both with records of 16/20. Still close races in both flights with just 5-weeks left to play in the regular season as of today’s writing. So far, we

have been blessed with good weather on Fridays with no games rained out so hopefully that will continue. By the time I write my article next month, on March 6th, there will only be one week left of regular play. Then on March 20th will be our 8-Team Tournament which will be followed by our annual Bust-Up Party on the 20th & that will be the end of our 2019-2020 season.
