Hailing from the chocolate dipped town of Hershey, PA and landing on the sun-drenched shores of Siesta Key, local resident and business owner, Mr. Glen Cappetta has found paradise in his new home and now a vested interest in the Siesta Key economy and employment. Mr. Cappetta, a vibrant and charismatic fellow has brought an eco-friendly, young and forward-thinking company to our town and has steady long-term growth plans for his pedicab business. In these current economic times, is it not refreshing to see a company in infancy already becoming a success for locals, tourists, job-seekers and an entrepreneur with plans of expansion? Glen fell in love with Florida as a child while visiting his grandparents in Boynton Beach and vowed to call it his home someday. He relocated to Florida Ă€YH \HDUV DJR DQG RQ D GD\ WULS to Siesta Key quickly decided it would be the ideal place to call home and to begin his new business endeavor. He felt that Siesta Key offered the most upside growth potential, no competition in the local market, and an environment ZKHUH ELNLQJ LV GHĂ€QLWHO\ D ZHOFRPHG SDVWLPH ZLWK HQWKXVLDVWV visible at all times of the day. As Glen points out, â€œâ€Śintroducing the pedicab (bike taxi) concept to Siesta Key was a logical extension of the current (and future) environment on this paradise island. The progressive trend towards ‘green’ transportation systems, especially in protected or barrier island habitats appeared to be a common sense approach to the sustainability of the fragile ecosystem we have here on this islandâ€?. Mr. Cappetta proudly obtained his Bachelor of Science in Logistics from The Pennsylvania State University and holds an MBA from Strayer University in Management and Entrepreneurship. Having worked in the corporate Supply Chain /RJLVWLFV Ă€HOG IRU PRUH WKDQ WZR GHFDGHV LQ VHQLRU PDQDJHPHQW at such Fortune 500 companies as The Hershey Company, Delta Airlines, Ryder Integrated Logistics, and Siemens Energy, Mr. Cappetta’s breadth of experience in moving people and things was a marriage of skill and passion that began many years ago ZKHQ KLV SDUHQWV SXUFKDVHG IRU KLP KLV Ă€UVW $PHULFDQ )O\HU train set. After starting in mid-2010 with a single pedicab and only himself driving for 16 months, Sun Ride Pedicab now boasts a Ă HHW RI Ă€YH ELNHV XWLOL]LQJ WHQ KLJKO\ VNLOOHG DQG WUDLQHG drivers. Sun Ride’s hours of operation are seven (7) days/ week; 18 hours/day between the hours of 9 a.m. and 2 a.m. There is no set fee for their transportation services, but generous tips are always appreciated. Glen believes that â€œâ€Ś.pedicabbing around this tropical paradise is the only true ‘Siesta-style’ mode of transportâ€?. He also credits most of his success to the unique and personal interaction between his drivers and his riders. “My drivers are chosen based on their ability to positively interact with strangers on a consistent EDVLV ZLWK WKH DGGHG EHQHĂ€W RI SURYLGLQJ ORFDO NQRZOHGJH RI WKH area’s history, eating and drinking establishments, and night-life venues. This knowledge is critical to providing the ultimate in ‘concierge’ and customer service to both the locals and tourists that visit the islandâ€?. Glen acknowledges the failure-rate statistics for small businesses is that 40 percent fail in one year.
