DOGGIE COSTUME PARADE AND CONTEST

The first Doggie Costume Parade and Contest was held on Sunday, October 30TH with 22 dogs participating. There was a pirate, fisherman, Little Bo Peep and her lamb, hot dog, lobster, butterfly and many other fabulous costumes. You could hear a lot of oohs, aahs, and even laughs – especially when Robin Hood decided not to walk the runway even with the encouragement of his owner. I don’t know how the judges (Carla and Lael Trent who live outside of Tara Woods) made their winning selections. I couldn’t have picked them.

The costumes and dogs were sooo good.

CONGRATULATIONS TO THE WINNERS:

Lori Thomas’ Bailey, Most Original; Kathy Baldwin’s Earl, Most Original; and Judy Powers’ Chloe winning the Funniest. (We replaced the Spookiest with another Most Original since there were no spooky costumed dogs.) I must compliment all the owners and their dogs for their compatibility with each other as they were so close together. They were well behaved with no loud barking and no fights (which was one of my biggest worries). Keeping 22 dogs behaved in a small area was quite a feat. I would also like to mention how much the Garden Club’s Butterfly Garden greatly added to the theme of the

event with its spooky ghosts floating in the wind. It really looked good.

THANK YOU!

Finally, I would like to thank those who helped to make this all happen. Without them this event could not have proceeded so smoothly. Many thanks go to Lou and Pat Dunning, Jon and Mary Ellen Gold, Gail Sanfilippo, Diane Nunn, and Frank Millette. A big thank you to all who showed up to see the dogs and the event; having you there helped to make the event special. Another thank you to Bill Black for hosting his hot dog stand which was enjoyed by many who took advantage of his delicious fare. Finally, this whole event would not have been possible without the gracious support by Bob and Emy Stein, Island Visitor Publishing, LLC, who print our paper. Thank you, Bob and Emy.
